Nurburgring 24hr Endurance - Which Car?

Regarding the OP: I am thinking about trying this race with either the Mercedes CLK DTM car or the BMW M3 GTR. My current experience (from doing the 4h Nürb a few times and practicing on the 24h-layout) tells me I should be able to achieve about 170 laps in 24 hours, but neither rain nor night racing is part of this calculation.

From watching videos in youtube It seems that you can win with as little as 163 laps, but other people had opponents which did 171 laps. Unfortunately, they don't show how much rain was involved.

Am I right in assuming that I probably need to pay attention to the opponents the game chooses? Does my car selection affect the choice?

I think rain start and end is different every time around. However, I watched my Bobs run parts of this and the rain started from the beginning and ended a few hours after dark. I think the race started about 4pm. About 4-6 hours of rain.

Most are saying that when it rains the Bobs are really slow and you make substantial time. When it stops look out the gain on you.
 
In doing the Supercar seasonal I drove a lot of the different race cars I hadn't driven before. The Vertigo was one of the worst for control. There were two I really liked think it was the R389 and the Calsonic. Both are about the same; great, great handling and good speed. Not going to beat the Bentley or 908 stock but beefed up with engine mods and turbo (if possible) I think they're winners!

Oh dear. I hoped it might actually be possible to get away with less or even completely without rain. I already did the 1000km Suzuka race completely in the rain...
