I haven't seen my name in a race for a while, either, Cyril.

I got back into the WRS for Week 28 and that granted me the last spot in Division 1. So, it looks like I am driving like crap, here lately.

University is killing me, I get an average of 5 hours a night worth of sleep, so I don't really have much time for racing anymore, except for the weekends. And even then, who wants to sit in front of the TV all day? Beer calls and you just have to go, you know what I mean? :D

Anyway, maybe we can join our forces and submit an UBER crap time together, this week 👍

You up for it? :sly:

The Wizard.

I will only have one session because I'm away from home for the week-end. The thing is : if I can run a clean lap I'll submit. But chances are that this first and only clean lap will be über-crap.
I wish I could play several hours a day or several hundreds of miles a week like some people do.
I'll post again by thursday night to confirm if I have something to submit or not.
Good luck Matteo

Remembered how I liked Dion's setup for the MX5, so came here to check what setting Dion was driving. And as he said in his post, his setup is really nice. 👍 Dion, do you teach a class of Tuning 101 somewhere, and can I enroll? ;)

Glad you liked them! 👍

I've done a lot of research on settings, and lots of mucking around to try to figure out how GT4 settings work, starting to get somewhere now though 👍.

I'm always willing to share my reasoning behind my settings, like i did last week. This week i did pretty much opposite to last week.

The main thing you have to do when doing settings is, just because it worked in GT3 or real life doesnt mean its the same for GT4. Some things are back to front where as some things (like camber) seem to match real life.

I've been talking to various Drivers who are also interested in settings and when i get some decent progress i may do some sort of write up.

Any feedback on my settings from others is appreciated 👍.

Once we get to gears, and racing suspension and LSD, i can really explain better to what ive done and why. 👍

I will do a few more runs later today or tommorow to try to get closer to my limit 👍

Good luck all!

Hello all!!

Where to start....

I have been working on set up these last few days but not sure if im getting anywhere..Im currently settled on a ride height simlar to Small-Fryz although not as low, think its 115/119m, for damping im using about 8 up front and 4-5 on the rear, and camber im playing with all the time, i cant make my mind up if camber is best on a small setting or large setting this week....

Lap times nothing to write about but took 10 seconds off total so far with a T10 of about 7'20 ish. Im learning that smooth progressive braking seems to be the way to go and am making laps more smooth with this, im hoping for perhaps another couple of seconds off by the weekend if i manage to find that "good" lap.....

I predict for this week the racing is going to be quite close after the leading 2.....!!

cheers all

Dave

i'll give you a tip about camber dave... from my experiences, the tighter the suspension, the lower the camber.
the flatter the car turns, if you jack the camber it actually tends to reduce grip.
(which is why my setup has such low camber)
i noticed that the mr2 seems to have a pretty tight suspension (god i wish the settings screed would tell you the value of stuff you can't change... its not like somoene can't look up the spring rates of the car they own... having that information makes the adjustable parts less of a poke-and-hope) anyway, if you watch a replay, even with the shocks turned down susbstantially, the car has very little body roll. and its very light... this all adds up to keeping camber's lower.
try < 2 on the front and < 1 on the rears.
the other benefit of lower camber, is the car isn't as nervous on the bumpy fast bits, so you can safely tighten the shocks + lower the ride.
oh, and flatter camber in the rear promotes more oversteer, since when g-Loaded the rears will lose traction faster than the fronts, causing them the rear to rotate around nicely.

cheers.

Thanks for that Dr Watson 👍

Seems to make sense, when i said a small value i meant for example 1/0.5 and a large value might be 2.5/1.5 but im using 2/1 at the moment as you say so will persist with that for the time being!!

Good info should help everyone here also 👍

regards

Dave

Well, i was talking to Hugo Boss and he went and tested my settings, and in the mean time came up with these ones.

116/118
8/10
2.5/1.8

And i must say they are an improvment on mine, The car has less understeer with only a little more oversteer, but its only a touch. The up side is how much understeer is now gone! 👍.

I also managed a new lap, 1.9 seconds faster than my old one, i took it a bit easy after T9 (@ T9 i was 2.4 ahead) and i nearly slid off the track as i braked a bit to late for the really long straight after T10. Hope to get another 1 second, but is room for another 2 even 3.
I will post all my sectors up to T10, but have the main ones in bold 👍

0'50.588
1'29.993
2'02.272
3'00.162
3'44.772
4'17.739
5'15.388
6'02.696
6'27.433
7'15.469

A big thanks to Hugo Boss for the help with settings 👍

Right got my first T times as i finally found a set up i liked and seemed to produce consistency and good t times, settings of 117/121 5/7 and 0.7/0 for camber, car feels a bit understeer biased but in a good way which gives confidence to push on....

T2 1'31.511
T4 3'02.237
T7 5'17.880
T10 7'20.073

Had a couple of "moments" on this lap and was very cautious on t7 to t10 so time everywhere, just a case of finding it.... saw 1'30.4xx T2 and a 7'19 on dirty laps but the above was clean and a good point to work from when i get back on it later in the week 👍

cheers all

Dave

Hmmmm, those chips are getting away.

I must say i love this combo dave, i enjoy the challenge of trying to push and keep the car on the tarmac, or whatever the germans have used.....

If i get another chance tonite, i may post a result this week!
(cheers in the background)
if not, then good luck to all of you, except casio.

:sly:

Have fun.

I hear you. With university taking almost all my time, I can't put the same amounts of laps or hours I used to, this summer, when I was in my homeland. And even then I didn't run as much as most of the other racers do.

With the Nurburgring is like you said: the first clean, complete lap, is usually what gets submitted. All the other laps are merely ATTEMPTS to finish the lap without breaking the rules. Once you get that one clean lap you are so happy you actually made it, that you don't even care anymore about the final time. Plus, once I do finally get the clean lap, I am usually so fed up of the track (or car) and so frustrated, that I couldn't make myself do another lap.

Good luck to you too, neighbor 👍 :D

Well i think my lap on the leaderboard may be the one i submit this week, not going to get much time on this over the weekend. Tricky little chap the MR2, can be faultless up to the point you lose the slightest bit of concentration and its all over, ultimatly the most rewarding to get right of the three weeks so far though for me.....

Remember everyone if you can send your set up details with your final time to me so i can try and glean some trends from the results, im hoping we may build up some sort of guide as to what really works for the Nurburgring 👍

Good luck to all for those final laps :)

cheers

Dave

that is some fast food.
i got the first of my 7 page papers done, and had time for another session in the mister-two... but no matter how hard i pushed it, just couldn't burn off the extra calories fryz added to the menu.

T2: 1'30.428
T4: 3'01.180
T7: 5'16.695
T10: 7'17.277

Hello guys, this week i will not be joining, because by new computer has arrived and i want to enjoy it for some days, away from GT. :)

I will just play wrs this week, no nrs, but next week i am in as always. ;)

just wanted to let ya guys know about, i wish good luck to you all and nice laps there on the ring. ;)

Small, the trophy is yours this time. ;)

Week 2 time submitted, know that there was more time there to cut off. but just
could not finish a clean lap faster than that i had already done, very frustrating,
but thats the Ring for ya :boggled:  .

Voted for Week 3 cars also, another interesting bunch too pick from.
Good luck all on the results for week 2 👍 .

submitted.

No time for improvement, weekend was very busy.

Happy with my time anyway 👍

Cya's in Week 3!!

I wasn't going to run this week at all but was inspired by next week's choices...that and a DNT (Did Not TRY) wasn't sitting well with me. I ran exactly 2 laps so don't laugh too hard about my results. The first lap contained 5 (I think) off track events...all probably in the 2/3 of the lap the last one just before Karussell. The 2nd lap of course was clean...obviously a bit on the conservative side because I was shooting for a clean lap but had some idea of braking points etc. so I pushed it as much as I dared. Finished -16.678 compared to the first lap. Ran with TCS/ASMs=1

119/119
5/5
1.8/0.9

T10 = 7'39.216

Not competitive by any stretch but I enjoyed the 17 minutes I spent with the MR2. If I could get beyond my ego and focus more on the having fun part (...isn't that what video games are for) I'd probably enjoy GT4 even more and be much less likely to be found dead of a rage/frustration/aggravation induced heart attack in my cockpit under the stairs.

I promise after the AMC wraps up I'll put more effort into this series...even so I'm enjoying it so far.

Unfortunately I had some unexpected things to arrange last week, plus I spent the week end by relatives, so I haven't run any of the races I should have run :(
I'll now vote for race #3 and hopefully time will come when I can submit before deadline too :D

Same here. There was an air show here in town this weekend and two sunny days, lots of R/C airplanes, good grilled food and beautiful women sounded a lot better than me, 4 walls, the TV, the PS2, the DS2, GT4 and the Nurburgring :D

I am fixing to vote dor week 3, if I am still in time...
