Hello all and welcome to Voting for Week 7 of the NRS!!​

Before i announce the cars for Week 7 I would like to say a thankyou to someone! When i started this series I knew nothing about posting threads let alone inserting images and the more complicated things like leaderboards etc, i approached Kolyana after watching the AMC series she was hosting and asked her for advice and technical help to which she assisted greatly. So as a thankyou for the unquestioned help i received i asked her to pick the cars that you will be voting for this week, Im sure you'll all agree she chose some excellent machines 👍

So thanks again to Nat for the cars and the pictures this week :)

NRS WEEK 7 CAR CHOICES :​

AUDI RS4 '01
JAGUAR XKR-R PERFORMANCE
BMW M3 CSL
LOTUS ESPRIT SPORT 350
RUF RGT

All these cars are such worthy drives for week 7 where we will be starting to look at semi-race suspension, but remember for comparison they should be compared stock.

As usual no discussing on here just PM me your top 3 choices by 9PM GMT 28/11/2005 👍

Hello everyone, the voting results are in...!​

Wow, with 5 excellent choices this looked like a close vote, however there has been a very clear win for 1 car this week, and i couldnt agree more with the choice 👍

In 3rd place with 15 points - The Lotus Esprit Sport 350

In 2nd place with 19 points - The Ruf RGT

But in 1st place with a whopping 27 points.....The M3 CSL.​

The CSL just feels at home here, so so impressive, this is going to be a great week. Onwards with our tuning and this week we move to slightly stickier rubber (S2) and Semi race suspension, with the option of adjusting spring rates we will spend a couple of weeks adding this option to our now sound understanding of sports suspension and how to tune out under/oversteer 👍

Remember again when posting settings please describe why you chose them!

Power in your tuning screens = 417HP
Weight in your garage screens = 1218KGS

RULES :

As always im sure you all know now but once again - No cheating, car to be set up as above only, rumbles and concrete are all part of track, no wall touching, two wheels on at all times!

Please send your best time to me by 9PM GMT 5/12/2005 and only T times discussed on here please (try to leave T11).

I had the joy of driving all of these (and more!), and can honestly say that there isn't a bad one amongst them. I'm looking forward to this week, regardless of what people may pick.

How are we supposed to choose only one car out of this lot, seems it might have to
come down to a toss of a coin for the final choice 👍.

Very nice choices Nat 👍, and just to back up what Dave said, thanks for taking the
time to do what you do here on GTP, without people like yourself who go above and
beyond the call of OLR in organising, updating leaderboards, and just helping others,
GTP would not be anywhere near as good a place as it is for those of us bitten by the
OLR bug. Thanks again 👍

I'll have to chime in here too and give Nat a public "thank you" for her help to me also...she's been gracious enough to help out with comments and testing for the series I'm trying to put together -- American Iron.

Not only is she a tremendous help and very generous to assist us but she's one tough cookie on the track too. I can get close but she's always just a bit better than I am.

So kudos to Nat both off and on the track.

Not to forget the dopey side of myself that attempts to be funny...maybe that tear that Steve brings to your eye will be just enough of a distraction that I **might** be able to get around you.
 
Voted! Hard to make a final choice! So many good cars in that list! As Watson said, there should be 3 winners :p

Damn Goixoye you've given the game away :rolleyes:, tears in the eyes add many seconds
to a lap time around the Nurb, I know cause after 2 hours without completeing a clean
lap it brings tears to my eyes then its all downhill from there :p.

And thats why im having her over for tea and racing next year sometime i hope.

You do do a very good job around here Koly, and its nice to see so many speak up.

Just goes to show that we do pay attention and none of your hard work goes to waste.

You know i care too.

Even if im more of a :grumpy: git than i should be.

Nice choice on the cars, though i reckon your pictures suck.

Theyre all blurred.

Just kidding!

anyway, i think ill vote for something GERMAN.

Dont want to make it obvious what i chose in this line up, but that nation always strives to be the best, and it shows in their build quality.

Thanks VexD. I was hoping to get a full German lineup, but there was a lack of choice in the other manufacturers and I had to throw in a couple of good old English cars for a German Vs English spin on things.

As for the pictures ... ahahhahahahhahah .... yeah, I know, I know ... :crazy: :indiff: :yuck: :ouch: :guilty:

Ah, this is going to be interesting ... I voted for the RUF first and CSL second, only because I knew the popular vote would be with the CSL! (and I love to fly in the face of popular opinion :p).

The CSL was an absolute beaut to drive, so with these mods it should be a really fun week!

but, wooo hoo one of my favorite cars in the game.
I already have really good CSL settings for the ring btw... I'll see if I can apply them to the current tune and post them as soon as i have time with the ps2.
probably tomorrow night, should give everyone a good baseline for spring-rates and such.

this totally makes up for truck week =]
 
boo! hiss! I knew the CSL (cecil) would win. Gack! Nobody wants to try something new on the 'ring these days? Everyone and his dog has already taken the CSL around this track. Blech.
 
Nooo! i so wanted the Lotus.. Ahh.. the CLS was my second choice ;)

Oh yeah... OooOOohhh Yeahhh!

I feel a lot more confident about this week. I usually play with the CLS in my spare time, so i got this car pretty round up. I just hope i can push it to the max on the 'ring this time... arg ;) Tires should help too.

Ha ha, me too!! For 2 reasons: one, I felt we should drive something German; two, we really need to have a run in a RR car.

But perhaps that can be taken care of with a week in the Yellowbird. *hint, hint*

This should be a very competitive week.

Also, are we supposed to do the times on GT/Free Run or Arcade mode?

Hi Turboj

"T times" give you the time it has taken you to drive to a certain designated point on the track, on the Nurburgring there are 11 sectors plus the finish line, hence T-1 to T-11.

These "t times" appear on the screen in white and stay on screen for a couple of
seconds 👍.

All racing here in the NRS is done in GT Mode so parts can be fitted and stuff can
be adjusted .

I think the T stands for "Trap", as in the timing trap at the end of each sector; if that helps.
 
i managed a T10 of 6'25 last nite, thinking i was doing well....


Now i see we are using S2 tyres...

Maybe i'll beat that minute i was running into.

The car was skittish for me.

Anybody else find that raising it and softening it worx?

advice will be needed this week.

Im finding my exploratory laps interesting to say the least, even spun at low speed before the Karussell! Finding that the car seems to wander a bit and is highly sensitve to steering inputs for me, but fairly well balanced overall i think....trying to get to grips with spring rates now....No T times to post as not clean but will try again!!

man its strange. I'm used to the CLS, but 'stock', without any upgrades. Now with that much power, that car is dangerous... wayy too much torque/tonne without proper race modifs. If this car even sneeze near grass, the wall's the next stop. And for some reason, i find its somewhat hard to turn (?!). Anyone else got this problem? I got my camps from 0.5 to 2.5 and the result is very similar... grr

Anyhow, going the 'slow clean lap' as reference trick, i managed a 6'41.943 at T10... I'm pretty excited as this is somewhat one of my best times overall. But everytime i try to push, i make one mistake at some random location (rarely the same place twice) and the wall greets me with open... well... walls..

first race here.

T10 6'22 so far

Haven't adjusted the suspension at all yet though. Hopefully I can come up with some good settings tomorrow.
 
With stock suspension the CSL is an absolute dream on the 'ring, so it'd be surprising if it wasn't good on semi-racing susp...
 
It's a little bit of a handful with semi-race suspension, just a bit too stiff.

My first clean, conservative lap:

T1: 0'45.010
T2: 1'19.556
T3: 1'48.365
T4: 2'39.601
T5: 3'17.940
T6: 3'44.708
T7: 4'35.177
T8: 5'17.583
T9: 5'39.642
T10: 6'22.416

To be honest, the standard settings are not too bad from a speed point of view. The problem is that it is difficult to puch hard with those settings. The car is liable to get away from you at several points around the track, particularly when the front wheels come off the ground. :p :dopey:
 
technically, by rules... can we use settings that are 'less' then what's set? Like use 'sport' suspensions? or something?

Hi RedOak, I would prefer you use semi race,using sports suspension would defeat the object here of trying to understand how to set cars up on semi race, with the ultimate goal being to correctly set up race suspension 👍
