The world doesn't revolve around Top Gear. Just get over it. Watch some Best Motoring (International) instead.

👍

Quite frankly I don't get this fixation with Top Gear.

Its a good TV show and all, but as far as a race track, you can have it.

Give me back most of the former GT tracks like Midfield, Apricot Hill, New York, Seattle, El Capitan etc.

Didnt Forza buy out the exclusive rights of all things Top Gear?

I am pretty sure that is against the terms of the BBC's license. They are not allowed to enter into exclusivity contracts. How that works for TV contracts however is beyond me.

THE TRACK MENU!! Does anyone else out there feel that the one in GT4 was much neater and more organized? Why did PD take a big step back in this particular area?

Yea the.menus are.an.ugly.mess. I think they tried to.make the game more suave by not making it look so game like. Also most of the music is hideously boring dull and just wrong for a gt game.

OPer should be banned for coming to GTP to complain about GT5.

At least a tempban. There are too many complaint threads as it is, just pick one of those if you feel the need to complain. We don't need any more complaint threads.

And we even already got Tsukuba circuit and Fuji and Suzuka that they also used!!!
I'd better much try to beat Keiichi Tsuchiya around the 'ring in a Touge battle then try to beat the Stig :dopey:

"Obvious shortcomings"..... are you frickin' serious? These complaint threads have just hit a ridiculous new low. Oh yeah...not being able to compare my lap times against the likes of Simon Cowell and Chef Ramsey is just KILLING my enjoyment of GT5! Hey, I like Top Gear, too, but.... really?
As far as leaderboards are concerned, yeah, in theory, they'd be cool, but in reality they'd probably be populated by corner-cutting cheaters in detuned R390s anyway, so I really don't care about that either.
The game is what it is. It will never be everything to everyone.
I really should have just passed by this stupidity like I usually do rather than responding to it and bumping it back to the top.
"Obvious shortcomings".......... Jeez... I think I need a drink.

Other than perhaps a standing start option for Top Gear, I don't mind the other stuff missing.

I'd think bigger short comings are:

-Being unable to properly set your gears (ratio range is horribly limited, and the chart is bad too)
-Drag from high downforce not modeled
-Cars cannot be totaled
-Pit stops always take the same amount of time, damage or not
-Inability to search for rooms online
-Inability to set PP and power/weight, and car classes
-Online car classification missing options that exist in A-Spec, as well as obvious options (any maker, not just Ferrari/Lambo)
-Lack of full HUD customization

It wasn't my intent to start a new complaint thread. Honestly, I was looking for some explanation or rationalization of why some of these things are missing. I got a few (thanks!), but I'm surprised at the overall backlash.

Errrm, maybe this is obvious only to me but if you want to do a a standing start, simply come to a stop just before you cross the start/finish line.... then put your foot down, cross the line and hey presto, the lap timer for that lap starts. 👍
True. But I think that making it a real, properly supported mode/event could make it much better (faster resets, and remembering your previous best, for example).

1) The Liana, Lacetti, and C'eed are not licensed by Top Gear or the BBC.
That's a good point -- of course the cars would have to be licensed from the manufacturers. Still seems like PDI would have tried to get at least ONE of them.

Not to mention have permission to use a celebrities name in the game.
Interesting -- I hadn't considered this angle. I'm not sure how this would play out; can a celebrity really control the use of their name in this way? IANAL, but I would be surprised. Especially after they appeared as guests on the show. But maybe they really did grant a release to the show that covers use only in the context of the show...

4) You... uhm... you can do that. It is called the interwebs.
Yes, I know the Power Lap times are available on the web, and I could look them up myself. But should I have to? Doesn't this fall along the same lines of people having to maintain their own spreadsheets for best lap times?

And perhaps more to the point, didn't PDI and Top Gear miss an opportunity for strong cross-branding?

Most of your issues revolve around Top Gear, to be honest Top Gear measures very low on many peoples care factor scale. There are bigger and better things in the world of cars and motorsport, things that are not in GT5.
Some IRL friends and I are fans of Top Gear. So sue me. We were all excited before GT5 was released to hear the news about the TG license, and were then similarly disappointed at the limited scope of the tie-in features.

I would think that any other fan of Top Gear would jump at the chance to try and post a lap in the Reasonably-Priced Car in-real-life. And barring that, isn't Gran Turismo the next best thing?

Really? I came to GTP looking for intelligent discussion, insight and answers because this is the largest, most in-the-know GT fan community I've found on-line. It's inconvenient that my interests don't exactly align with yours. No need to ban me, I probably won't post again -- and if I do, I'll use a more appropriate subject to warn you beforehand ("Top Gear / GT Fan Boi GT5 Wish List - Nothing To See Here, Move Along").

As far as leaderboards are concerned, yeah, in theory, they'd be cool, but in reality they'd probably be populated by corner-cutting cheaters in detuned R390s anyway, so I really don't care about that either.
As far as I can recall, the Leaderboards in GT5P were Per-Car-Per-Track. So all of the detuned R390s should be confined to the R390 leaderboards.

Really? Calling for a ban over something like this? You guys are getting pathetic with this nonsense.

And pointing at the Seasonal Events and going "look, GT5 already has leaderboards so shut up" is an almost comically facile argument.

+1, although the seasonaks are leaderboards of sorts, they aren't full leaderboards for every track.

Andy wilman and Jezza are in the forza camp courtesy of MS Cash.

Bingo.

PD doesn't use licensing very well (NASCAR, Top Gear, WRC), so I wouldn't expect them to expand on what they have. Besides, if they couldn't bother to put the whole airstrip in or make the test course accurate, why would they make sure you can compare all of your times to a bunch of cars not even in the game?

Tom Cruise wouldn't, but Thom Cruise would
I guess it would just be T. Cruise, although T could stand for anything. ;)

I personally cannot stand Top Gear and if I had to see Clarksons turkey neck flapping around while he talks in euphemisms every time I logged into my favorite game... ugh, the thought of it is just outraging. I'm glad they all went to Forza. Thanks for the track and the Stig suit, see ya later!

As for Stig times, they would eventually just be beaten. Probably very easily, seeing as how we're not driving the actual cars but just playing a video game, one in which allows a lot of room for exploits. So in that regard, not very interested. Definitely not very interested in downgrading my tires on my supercars that come with at least sports softs to make up in the differences between RL racing and video game racing.

Anyway... I think it was a very courteous thing for PD to do for us fans, and I appreciate their effort. I especially like the TGTT, although I've ranted against it for a long time - it is a nice track and I do enjoy running around on it. Wish there was dynamic weather on that track, but that's my only complaint for it. People enjoy the hell out of it too, its gotta be one of the more popular tracks online. My lobbies fill up and stay active throughout all hours of the night and morning. Excellent track to have in the game, hope to see something similar in GT6, on which can make use of the entire runway. :D

But thats my take on the matter. Top Gear interests me very little and GT5 took from that show what I wanted - the track. I don't even really want the Stig suit, but I know a lot fans do. Soon we'll have our chance to get it.

''Yamauchi told us this week that leaderboards are "in the process of evolution" and planned for a future update, along with a matchmaking system. These changes can't come soon enough.''

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-26-gran-turismo-5-online-article?page=2

It's crap like that, that makes me wonder what the hell Kaz and PD are smoking. Were they just flat out lying? Almost 1 year ago they say matchmaking and leaderboards are coming soon. Yeah.. ok.

I read that too. Makes you wonder why they kept GT5P servers going, and then they kept them open longer even after they were supposed to be shut down.

I get that everybody wants leaderboards, as do I

But I an understand why they are not in the game as they where in GT5p.
Otherwise you would have a board everey posible car set up.

The only way they could implement it is in Arcade and the arcade cars only.

Standing starts should not be a problem - B-Spec Bob does standing starts so how come there are none in A-Spec? :(
