Ok, I got me a Lancer ES 04 and I want to add performance

My ES is a 2.0L 4 cylinder 16 valve engine car and I want to add some performance to it. Here are some pics of the engine

I pretty much know what I want to get; I plan on getting a new Intake and exhaust manifold, catback system, a cold air or ram air intake(short), and this product called tubronator http://www.turbonator.com/Install.html
a friend of mine got one of those for his Eclipse and sure it enough it added performance. Now it seems like I know what I want but the problem I have is finding parts exactly for the 04 ES. When I do searches and I find parts like a intake system or manifold, it's for the Evo only :grumpy: I just need alil help finding parts exactly for the ES model.
 
Hahaha, a turbonator. :lol: It doesn't do crap, you know, you're wasting your money, to be honest. The non-Evo Lancers are hopeless when it comes to performance... Just stick with what you have, don't go and void the already fragile warranty with stuff that'll make more noise than power.

You can do the regular.....
machine work...
bolt ons..etc...

You can go find a totalled rally art and get the mivec engine..then boost that.....
 
^ That shouldn't be too expensive either, the performance you'd get from doing that and giving it a bit more power is far better than what you'd get spending the same ammount upgrading what you already have.

Now that is completely untrue. I once read an article from a guy who put one on his car and noticed a huge difference...

...Right after the turbonator fins broke off and sucked down his intake into a cylinder and destroyed his engine.
 
All the turbonator does is add an vortex effect...it's just like putting a Vortech system on a car, just like my engine has. But mine came stock.
 
But in all seriousness, I would suggest starting with the basics. CAI, exhaust (full cat back), upgraded fuel system, cams do wonders, and if all else fails turbo or superchrage it.
 
Or get a 3-foot tall wing and some BMW M3 fenders. 👍 Nothing makes your car faster than those.

In all seriousness, get a new exhaust first. That will help kept back pressure low when you move to forced induction or a high-horsepower NA motor. Second, I would recommend intake, air filters headers etc.

Your third would probably be fuel. I would suggest getting a new fuel rail now, advance the timing, get a new gaskett (cheap piece of metal, but they can mean the difference between a working engine and 3 hours at the side of the road), new plugs, and new injectors. The plugs can probably come first, they wont cost too much and are easy to DIY. Just make sure they're gapped properly (get a gauge if you don't have one, and if you don't know how to use one just get a buddy or mechanic to show you, it saves a lot of cash in the long run), it will ensure it fires properly and it lasts long.

Next is the heavy stuff that sets your wallet back quite a bit. Like, new cams, con rods, piston-heads, turbos, etc. I would recommend doing some heavy research into those feilds and make sure you really want to do this to your car. Remember, with every 100hp, the reliability of your engine decreases 10% and the life of it decreases even more--especially with turbo/supercharged engines.

And don't tell your insurance company this crap, you'll A) get cancelled or B) have your rate skyrocket to unbelievable amounts with a high deductible.

I probably missed a couple things, but those are the basics and necessities I would think. And new wires, those are also very helpful. *They can add up 2hp with more efficient signals and proper timing, calibration, etc.

If you cant find a aftermarket intake or exhaust manifold then you can always get one made.

I would recommend freeing up the intake and exhaust first, then you could always get a 75hp Nitrous kit, direct fitment to a standard 4 cylinder engine.

How much extra grunt are you looking to get?
 
You could also give the hand on your exhaust manifold a high-five! You know that's why its there. That "X" is just a mistake by the factory.
 
Get a new intake, first thing. That intake looks restrictive as hell and you'll get alot more flow out of a smooth bore free flowing CAI

Second, relocate the battery to the trunk. Some people will argue with this, but you won't get much of a CAI without it and it helps even up weight distribution.

After that, get a cat-back exhaust, or a full exhaust and a header if you can afford it. If nobody makes a full exhaust, make your own. Catco high-flow cat, 2.5" pipe all the way back, and an N1 style muffler seems to be the most popular option.

To transfer the power to the wheels, I recommend you look into a lightweight flywheel and a Stage 2 clutch kit. Also try to find some lightweight wheels and better tires, this will also help the car transfer more power to the ground as the drivetrain has less weight to spin and the car has more grip at the same time.
 
I still say save for the Mivec...
It'll be more powerful than every mod they just mentioned and no doubt cheaper in the long run..

Not to mention the mivec actually has an aftermarket.
 
I usually dont talk about my income but I got over 1k in my account so I should be able to get those parts. The prob with getting a Mivec engine is actually finding one and getting someone to put it in for a doable price. I think I'll stick to things I can do my self like adding a catback or manifolds. When I save up for more cash, I'll try to get a the Lancer supercharged or turbocharged. I'm gonna get a body kit for the lancer, something real simple and not ricey. I'm gonna get a front bumper, side skirt, and rear bumper and real spoiler like the Evo so it's gonna look like a mini Evo
 
i'll go check out some lancer spots see if it's even do-able..
mounts might be crazy out of wack or something....but i'll give it a once over
 
Just find an older FWD DSM, which there are many of. Buy the engine and trans from him, since the car probably doesn't run. Rebuild that combo, and proceed to stick it in the Lancer. Takes some work, but it will go. That whole process should cost well under $3k, and you'll have an engine that will do just about anything you want, unlike the boring, wheezy ass slug you have now. The 4G63 is the only Mitsu engine worth working on right now, so might as well use it.

Um....NO. The only Mitsu V6 that was ever even close to good was the 6G72 in the 3000GT, but even that wasn't that good. Didn't handle power as well as the VG30TT in the 300ZX. And, it was in the 3000GT for cripes sake. That car weighed like 78,000lbs. Ugh

Um.....NO. I can think of at least 5 that are waaaay better than that dump of an engine you like.

1 - 2JZ-GTE One of the greatest engines sold in a car, and easilly the greatest import engine, ever. Known to make well into 500hp before you even need to think about upgrading internals. And now a days, the 1000hp Supra is almost common. Thats how good that engine is.

2 - B18CR The best of the B-series engines, which in themselves are legendary. Small, but will make big power either boosted or on just motor. Stellar.

3 - 4G63T There is a reason this engine is still in use after over 15yrs of service. Its just that good. Nothing high-tech, even in then new "MIVEC" version in the Evo IX. Just stout engine eating boost like no other.

4 - EJ20T Again, like the 4G63, this engine is still used today because it just doesn't need changes. Great with mods, and just gotta love the look of the flat layout underhood.

5 - VQ35DE Used in everything from Altimas to Muranos to 350Zs. Its an evolutionary step from the great VG30, and leaves nothing wanting. Great power, without turbos, and can make MUCH more with very little work.

Let's not quibble... this is a serious topic...

I'm not up-to-date on Mitsu engine codes, but if that's a SOHC 4G93, there IS a turbocharged version of that in the Asian Ralliart version, but that's the 1.8 liter version. Don't know how well the kit will translate, but it does demonstrate that the block will hold at least a moderate amount of boost. The Asian Ralliart version holds about 160hp, and the 2.0 may take up to 200hp safely. Good luck finding a junkyard engine with the equipment, though... I think you'll have to check around Singaporean or Malaysian sites.

Hell I wouldnt even bother witha cat back exhaust and all those other little things. They give next to no gained performance on none turboed cars. Just save our money and hassle and get the evo engine fitted. Its not worth botherinf with all those little parts because by the time you get 200hp out of it you could have easily paid for a evo engine to be fitted.

If you believe this guy, I have an engine conversion for you. All you need are some hampsters to power the wheels, you could even use four hampsters - One for each wheel. They're good for tons of hp.
 
Well from what I've read, no one's done it yet..So I wouldn't bother cause it would cost a **** load..

The mivec swap, Also from what i've read..
SHOULD be practically a bolt in..

only issues is you need to get the ecu out of the same car....
