Just came across this...

Paul Allen's little toy: the 127m (416ft) Octopus, built in 2003. (that's almost half the lenght of the Titanic)

Octopus cost Allen over US$200 million and has Permanent crew of 60, including several former Navy Seals. It has two helicopters, seven boats, a 10 man submarine and a remote controlled vehicle for crawling on the Ocean floor. The submarine has the capacity to sleep eight for up to two weeks underwater.

Other toys included are a theater, pool / hot tubs, 2 landing pads for the helicopters, one of them also serves as a basketball court, and many more... only costs about $20M yearly to run, too. I know Larry Ellison got one a few ft longer (in fact he changed the plans while building it so it would be longer than this one), but it's nowhere as massive or cool:

Tons of pics and info in that forum thread.

I've seen Ellisons boat up close. Was parked in the Copenhagen harbour when they had some sailing competition up here... That is one f'ing huge piece of machinery.. I believe the price was around 2 billion dollars...

Hello Magazine
The £66 million Pelorus, which is staffed by a crew of 40 and costs around £6 million a year to run, is snuggled up on the quay alongside Roman’s £60 million Grand Bleu. With its smaller yacht and two helicopter pads, the latter makes a perfect base from which to nip over to the various matches being held around the country during the coming month.

That's right, the smaller yacht has 2 helipads. I'm also sure the larger one has an escape submarine.

That's the rising sun.

I doubt it has cost $2 Billions though, since it's only a few feets longer than the Octopus which costs $200M and has every high tech gadget you can imagine on a boat...

Here it is with his "smaller" yacht, Tatoosh:

and... his third, Méduse:

In the past, he also previously owned Le Grand Bleu ExigeExcel mentions.

Again...

You're right - It was, in the exchange rate of days gone by, 2 billion danish kroners..

Would be popular in that area. 👍

That boat was another great idea of the Brunei Sultan's brother, while he was on a spending spree that made the Sultan's fortune take a huge plunge, after being the #1 fortune in the world, effectively pulling the biggest Mc-Hammer ever known to man. The project has been halted in 98, and then "salvaged" by the royal family in Dubai. It's probably more luxurious (as in Oriental overstyled-and-cheesy luxurious) than the Octopus, but I'm sure it's nowhere as cool in terms of gadgets.

Don't ask my where this fixation on boats I have today comes from... :p

I think I remember seeing Larry Ellisons boat whilst I was in the Bay Of Islands here in NZ.

Was his the one powered by turbines? Katana - now sold and renamed Enigma.

And I thought that my Mom's Cousin's boat at the lake of The Ozarks was huge... :scared:

Freedom of the Seas by Dumbass Royal Caribbean.

1,112 Feet long.

I hate generally hate cruises (I've been on too many), but this ship looks pretty fresh. It's got a wave/surf zone thingy. Kicks the crap out of the stupid ice skating rink (which didn't even have large enough skates for me. what a crock) from the explorer and voyager and stuff.

I'm pretty sure Larry Ellison drives them, since he is flying by himself the Marchetti jet fighter that he also bought.

(as if that wasn't enough already...) :ouch:

I don't think driving these behemoths is very exciting after the first hour, anyways, and I wouldn't want to park one either. The Sub, on the other hand.... :)

The saddest part is, they probably only use the boats for 1 weekend out of the year.
Instead of buying these boats that they will never use, they should just give me some money.

How do they get the boats on and off the bigun'?

Omnis
How do they get the boats on and off the bigun'?

lol, i was just wondering that, I don't see a crane, and they can't slide off the back cause there is stuff in the way. strange.....

Man I wish I was rich, I wouldn't as for much just a:

Viper SRT
Shelby Mustang GT500 Eleanor
Huge Mansion
Personal Jet
Personal Helicopter
one of those nice yachts,

and maybe a small country with inclusive army :dopey:

Apparently, the cranes lay down or retract pretty much out of sight. Here it is in what appears to be its operating position, along with another device of some sort on the starboard side:

Of course, this little vessel has its own complete web site. Browse through the photo gallery. Check out the bridge, the cinema, the staterooms, and all the rest. Life is good aboard "Aussie Rules":

Jebus ...

I just saw the octopus next to an izuzu truck. It's mahoosive! Some nice yachts here ... very nice yachts.

Oh, I see now. Cool. That crane still looks a little small, though. I wonder what kind of mess it makes when they bring the boats back on board from being seaborne. They'd probably have to drain them over the side before actually setting them down.

Cool vessel, indeed.
