Online Credits and EXP...how does it work?

Obviously it's based on your finishing position, but are other factors involved? Laps? Car type? Number of opponents? Anyone got any info on how this works?

I'd like to believe that, but I just got 20000 credits for winning a daytona 10 lap race, but the next race, where i finished in second, I only got 414 for an 8 lap

a 5 lap race at Daytona just got me 7000gs

now i know it doesn't make any sense....658 credits for a second place finish at laguna with 12 people...i got one penalty
