I dont know about you people in Europe and Japan, but if youre on the NTSC servers, online is just plain unbearable. You get punted in corners, you even get punted on the straights! Out of 17 races entered today, I got punted off...17 times...honestly I don't even want to play online anymore. Some guy punts me and I get collision penalty while he speeds off just because he was closer to the racing line. Its honestly a big cluster:censored: online. If online doesn't get better in Spec III i don't even think I'll buy GT5

Yeah it can get that bad.

There is no penalty in the normal races(offline) so that is where they are learning the stuff.

I heard the JPN version is better since people actually have racing etiquette...might buy that if it keeps going like this

Japanese drivers aren't any better. Faced the TEW_drivers a number of times this weekend. The probably think because they rule the online leaderboards, that they can make up their online racing rules too. Got punted off, pushed off, blocked at the last moment and brake-checked. What more ways do you have??

Only TEW_ENDLESSWIN seemed to be a fair driver. Wanted to send him a message if he could ask his TEW-tag colleagues to drive fair, but couldn't bother in the end. Did anyone of you had some contact with them through messages?

Yeah its true, I have the JPN version and they all seem to be capable drivers... the only problem is they drift a lot and I don't, so often I will get knocked in to!

We know how bad it is. If we can just cut 90% NTSC players GT5P would be far better off..

YOu would think they never watch auto racing..

CHeck my stats for how bad WE is.

The only thing you can do at the moment is see if you can get into any scheduled races with a large number of good, known drivers. I know there's quite a lot going on for PAL, don't know about NTSC.

It might be better but I've been very intentionally punted while passing at least twice by JPN drivers in the F430/GTR race. There are ******* drivers everywhere.

Japan is NTSC too. ;)

Anyway, I have both the JPN and UK versions, before the UK one came out I played the JPN one online and I got punted quite a bit, not sure if its changed now that the EU and US versions have come out. Might stick it in and give it a bash to see.

However the EU one is just as bad as you describe the US one.

Frustrating indeed! I went online Saturday night to the Ferrari/GT-R event to hook up with other GTP racers. Out of the fifteen or so races I was involved in, I got knocked off track or used as a wall barrier thirteen times! Out of all those races five were disconnects. I did however manage to finish two races cleanly and can say I never had a single problem with GTP racers. Our European members dominated and were skilled and fair to everyone regardless of other on track behavior.

I just got GT5:P and just went online for first match

and it was bumpy
plus I got penatlys for it...

WE NEED PRIVATE ROOMS!

I enjoy Daytona Speedway just for that high speed fun...but if you're in 1st you might as well have a target on the back of your car.

I have always defended Polyphony Digital for where they went with Gran Turismo, but in all fairness I must say the following: if they don't introduce private rooms for online play with the next big update for Prologue, they will loose heaps of fans, and rightly so.

they also should add country seperated search as a option too, where you can filter out whichever country you want to play in and stuff; that way it can reduce lag from playing with people only in your country.

PAL is definitely pretty bad at the moment - usually get pretty full grids and absolute carnage at the first corner because nobody takes account of anyone else. It's only really been like this since the last online update too, and I put it down to:

a) Reduced number of races available - with fewer races, all the online regulars are funnelled into only a couple of races - big grids are usually less clean than smaller grids.

b) This funnelling also means that many drivers will be forced into tracks or cars they're not necessarily comfortable with - with the removal of 500pp and 600pp in expert modes there are a lot of drivers used to slower cars with nowhere to go but to 750pp.

c) Fewer races also taking away options from beginner/intermediate racers, who aren't used to pro physics at all and can't control their cars, especially in 750pp. If a race starts with five GT LM race cars I can guarantee only one will do well as the rest just oversteer into the gravel.

d) To echo everyone else here, no private rooms. Only with them can we be sure of clean racing!

Total agreeance with everyone here, I too have noticed a sharp decline in the quality of racing since the new update, but there are benefits to it as well because I get to race with the likes of Earth, Ravenmaven and the TEW guys who are in my opinion easily good enough to rival the GTP-ers here. I've had no problem racing against them, they're fair, quick and honourable to me.

Private rooms are going to be a blessing. Without them, I find myself racing online less and less. Ravenmaven, I was there last weekend and I watched you finish last, last, last and I knew you weren't having any fun at all. You're a great driver, perhaps the issue of driving style needs to be looked at? I probably got punted about six times out of 20 races I was in and that came down to two things:

1: I always fall back to last at the start of a race so I can watch 50% of the field punt each other off.

2: I never overtake unless I'm absolutely certain of the other driver's intentions. If I think they're a blocker or a rammer, I usually stick on their tail until they make a mistake and end up in the sand.

You can't do it all the time, but I do think taking yourself OUT of situations where you can get punted is a very important tactic to practice. Simply put, a punter CAN'T drive, so if they're behind you, you either pull away, or let them through and wait for them to ditch themselves in the nearest sandpit.

As I was saying back in December. Private rooms will slove almost all online game play issue.

The smaller fields have had a definite impact. I tried racing Fuji 600PP all last week and the behaviour there was despicable to say the least. At least half of the starters were entering with no objective in mind other than to take everyone else out. In previous weeks I was able to run in the 600PP events and 500PP events with small fields where I at least could have a better chance of surviving. The only saving grace at Fuji last week was when I hooked up with a friend of mine and we could just race with each other at the back of the field after one or both of us were punted to the back of the field.
I started back at Suzuka Friday night and while there is still plenty of deplorable behaviour I was able to get the occasional good race by sticking to the 12 minute interval. I soon found that my results would be determined by the first corner so I put some time in improving my lap speed in free run. I combined this with a strategy to get through the first corner as close to the front as possible so as to escape the carnage when the Ferraris started slamming into the back of the pack. On the occasions when I made it to the front I had some really good races with only my own mistakes determining the outcome. When I fell to the rear, I faced the ignominuous task of fighting back through the punters but did get some enjoyment from that. There is a certain challenge to pressuring someone into making an error and some of the punters aren't that bad at driving, they are just lacking honour. I am going to stick with Suzuka as it will only last until Thursday anyway. Then we get to explore some new events all over again.

Thanks. 👍👍

Bigger fields and the small number of laps leads to many bonehead moves. In theory, everyone will be more patient if we had 20 laps in a race, but I don't know if everyone will be any more patient when that happens...

I tried to race in this WE for over a week and I have to say it was the worst online gaming experience I've ever had. I've been running Fuji 600pp with guys from the Playstation.com forums since middle of last week and it has been much better.

W E has been getting worst in the last little while. So I run the GT-R and launch like the space shuttle:sly:

What an excellent idea.

I find lagging very bad from eg Portugese (there are others) based drivers and not just in GT5P but other games as well.

I lost it last night. Got soooooooooooooo cheesed off with getting rammed off the road all the time (Suzuka Pro) I started retaliating. I started a perfect overtaking move off of spoon, ran the right hand kirb with a little puff of dirt rising into the air, pulled along side, then SWIPE as he took a lurch at me taking me out. What can you do?! Feel like I'm at an AA meeting (stands and raises his hand in the air) 'Hi, my name's Dominic and I'm a retaliating driver..'. I know I'm only bringing myself down to 'their' level, but on the flip side, it's all they seem to understand..

Umm..... I use the international server's and to be honest they are horrible. I dont know what everyone is bagging on about the PAL version or the JP version having "better" racer's or people with better "etiquette". From what I have seen the international server's are alot worse to be honest then the US one's. And I bet the EU and JP sever's are better then the internationl server's.

But like I said I have had a worse time racing against international player's then I have US player's.

Here's my take on what PD should do is have races where "collision" is turned off. This worked in NFSU2 when there was a lot of racers in the URL races.

Yeah, online can be pretty bad.

I'm usually racing in the F430 vs. GTR International Event. Usually, I'll get punted at turn 1. What I usually do is keep focused on the driver behind me, if they punt, I'll just break hard as an attempt to stay on the track. I'll lose speed, so I'll shift down, and try to regain my line (will avoiding other drivers). Pretty obvious stuff, really.

Not quite sure if it follows driving ettiquette however. This probably won't work on certain tracks during certain turns.

The only way I can see this working is if they do a penalty system where if you hit a car, and if within 3 seconds the car you hit has 3-4 wheels off the track, YOU get penalized 5 seconds.
