if you can not complete the pass clean before the next apex then abort the attempt and try again. Racing is based on control and agility not aggression.

Far, far too vague to be of any value. Everyone has different definitions of "clean".

Then you should not be considering your self a racer.

it made perfect sense to me. +1 to him. -1 to you.

Fair enough, I take it you are assuming these definitions are universal and because I don't think they are universal I therefore should not consider myself a racer. Since it made perfect sense to you Fever and you can jump in too Toyzri, please define in your own words what Toyzri meant in the first quote above, specifically:

1. What does clean mean? No contact or what contact is allowed? How much contact? If we're side by side and I move you a little to the outside, say a foot or two to push you into the marbles, intentional or accidental, is that ok?

2. How much overlap do you need at the turn in/braking point/apex to be able to hold your position on the track and not back off? Is one foot of overlap at the turn in point ok? Up to the drivers door? Parallel?

3. What defines when a pass is "complete"? Does it mean the passing car is completely clear? So if I'm not completely clear by the apex but we're parallel then what? If we were parallel at the turn in but I lost some ground and now I only have a foot or two overlap what then, because the pass isn't complete by the apex?

Wow, can't believe this little debate is still going on, lol. The OP seems to have really started a firestorm here. Let it go guys, lifes to short to keep this up, lol. Sorry, just trying to bring alittle humor into this great debate.

C'mon Dude you know you want to jump in!!!:sly:

No, its much more entertaining to just sit back and read it. I've had my fair share of heated debates so I think I'll just sit this one out, lol.

I'm getting ready to go rip up some pavement in the latest WRS TT. I'll be back later for the entertainment, lol.

Its pretty simple really guys. The answer is a pineapple and EVERY pass / incident has to be looked at differently.

In my mind, the car behind has the responsibility to NOT make contact with the car in front. If he sticks his nose up the outside, putting him in a precarious position on corner exit then its HIS responsibility to make sure there is no contact. As someone else said, you have to assume that unless your pass is clean and you are well along side, the driver in front has the right to take the racing line. "Surely you cant expect a driver to watch 4 directions at once, even though most of us try !!!

Where it gets interesting is when the car behind has more than 1/3rd or half his car along side the car that WAS in front. That is where i would say its up to BOTH drivers to give room.

Where i see issues is where drivers dont acknowledge the VERY FINE LINE of having to get out of a pass because its going to create an issue for them, or giving room to each other because the driver behind has been able to get along side, regardless if its the inside or outside line.

To my mind, from the description in the OP, if the driver behind was only marginally to the rear wheel, i would say he needed to get out of it, live to fight another day. If he was level with the preceding car then the driver in front needed to give room and concede, or hold his line into the next corner.

As i said earlier, its a grey area, made harder without the view of a replay. I ALWAYS try to get a replay of any protest incident for our league races so i can see exactly what has happened and WHEN the pass was tried.

Then i can hand out fairly, and if there is an appeal it goes to someone else to have a look at.
