Is this job great, or what? I want his job... at least until he gets out of the hospital...

Hmm, that makes at least three Enzo crashes now. At least that means people are driving them hard.

Another one bites the dust. Big accidents no deaths or even serious injury, nice work Ferrari.

And to think the guy removed his roof, too. Bodes well for the crash structure.

But then, if I'd just creamed such an expensive car, I don't think I'd want to live through it.

Stuipd guys doing stupid things in a car getting killed in a crash = RIP, condolences man, "we will never forget you", etcetera, from other car guys.

Stupid guys doing stupid things in a car getting through a crash alive = duh, you ****head, that was stupid.

Ferrari may be able to rebuild it. Several McLaren F1s have been totally written off and all were eventually rebuilt. It's not like you can do much with a destroyed Enzo except rebuild it.

You could submit it to MTV's Pimp My Ride, with a sob story about how you've had a rough life living in the inner-city, and all you could afford was this POS Enzo.

I'm sure you could find something to stuff the engine in...

Wouldnt it be hard to rebuild one of these due to the use of carbon fiber in the chassis?

 They'll give you a Scion xB with a bunch of TVs in it.

Most certainly. But the guy's rich to begin with, since he bought that car in the first place (and then chopped off the roof). Plus, with only 300 made, Ferrari will either push him to rebuild or buy whatever's left and rebuild it on their own. I'm fairly sure these things don't go sitting in some scrapyard. :)

Rich Lossee was the owner of the car. He's just a guest author that writes for them to give you an idea of what it's like to own an Enzo. It's really cool.

Richard is one of the best Ferrari owners in the world. He's an absolute upstanding guy, I already wrote a letter to R&T about him. He actually crashed it at a charity event. He's done more than a handful of those. He always gives rides to people who want them and has even let more than a few people drive his car. He's the ultimate ambassador of the Ferrari community to the public. I'm very glad he came out with few injuries. Had he died, I guarantee you he would be missed by many.

Feel sorry for him, then. But nice guy or not, it's still kind of embarrasing to wreck your own car (hey, most people think I'm nice, and I've done it. )

Correction I think its 399 :)

This is why he is an idiot and deserves everything that happend to him:

Richard Losee was going close to 200mph, and hit a bump in the road that sent him airborne. The car rolled 7 times and was flat as a pancake

Don't do that **** on public roads you idiot, that's what race tracks and circuits are for. You're rich you dumbass fly it to Germany and take it on the ring if you want to be wreckless.

I have ZERO symnpathy or pity for this guy.

You didn't read into this too deeply. it was a sanctioned event where police blocked off the roads, they paid $5000 each for the 15 mile run and the money went to charity.

400 in total. Original run of 399, and then an extra one was built, given to the pope, who allowed it to be auctioned it to raise funds for the Tsunami victims.

I agree, but I also agree with JCE about 200 mph on a public road being a bad idea. Racetracks would certainly tend to have smoother/better-maintained/more consistent pavement.

Well, at least he was only risking HIS life while doing so, which makes him way smarter than the assholes who destroyed the other 2.

Thank you for basically getting my point. I don't care if it was "legit" with the police and the road was blocked off and such...200MPH on anything other than a race track/circuit is just ludacris. I wouldn't even do it on the Autobahn, even though that's the best pubic road on the face of the planet with something like 18in thick with a smoothe concrete top. There are just too many variables on public roads. 200mph is no joke, anything like a slight bump in the road such as in this case will cause...well...basically what happend to this bloke.

That was his choice, the only person he could have hurt is himself, you don't have to agree with it in anyway but in my opinion its nothing to get that worked up over with name calling and swearing.

You say take it to the ring to be 'wreckless' but the ring isnt exactly the flattest safest place either, many people a year die at the ring also.

I should know this, but wasn't Mr. Bean's F1 one of the ones that wasn't repaired?
I may be thinking of another customer.

About the car, I believe there are some pics on the web of this Enzo before the accident.

Yep, Autoblog did an article on it just last month. I know there's older though. Like the comments say, I must agree this is a T-Top more than a Targa.

EDIT* Found this too if anyone is interested.

To my knowledge, all F1s have in fact been repaired.

Hmm, well, you're probably right since McLaren does in fact state on their website they'll repair any customer's car back to a new state or have one completely rebuilt to a new owner.

I remember the vids posted on here when Dan Kennedy bought his orange McLaren from the old factory. I believe he recently put it for sale a couple months ago at Lamborghini of Atlanta.

Sorry for OT guys.:)

Indeed - I'm fairly sure they're all still around. Incidentally, I'd kill (literally) for a complete list of McLaren F1 owners.

You should never have to apologize when discussing the McLaren F1. :D

Wiki has a list of a few, Leno obviously included.

I believe the AutomotiveForums.com's McLaren section has a fleet list of chassis codes in England and in Europe.

That rebuilding scheme by McLaren reflects just why people actually buy them for more than they were worth brand new. Those things get absolutely hammered year-in and year-out. I've noticed that many current pictures of McLaren F1s show rock chips everywhere.

And people ask why enthusiasts drool over them... because they're driven, baby, they're driven hard.
