They have races in Nevada down 90 mile stretches of really straight highway. They go over 200mph on a 2 lane road.

In GT4 they included the Option Stream Z which is a purpose built open road racer. That is why it handles like crap and has horrendous turbo lag.

I think it would be cool if in GT5 they included a really long stretch of road like one in Nevada. I find the test track to be too smooth and wide. It doesn't really feel like you're going fast. The straight on Circuit de la Sarthe was a lot more fun for speed runs to me. A big stretch of desert highway would be even better.

Here is a video of that Z in action, and why you can only drive it in video games now.

There's the 90-Mile Straight in Australia as well. Its not flat either - but undulates a bit so that would be interesting.

Jesus, a 90 mile straight away? That's staggering... would be boring though :/

Did something happen to his car before he flipped?

it looked like he was attempting to slow down/down shifting before it happened.

I personly think it would be very boring driving such a long straite
certainly not suitable for a racing game

I dunno. I think if there was a dedicated drag-type event that would be cool. And that long strait might be good for doing max speed tests.

Idk about 90 miles but you can make 6 miles with the track editor. So 90 miles of road? Like the speed races in NFS Pro Street? But taken to PD's level of standard? And extended to 90 miles?

If they had a option to race like 4 cars at once one a two lane road that would be fun passing would be challenging because you could easily block a pass.

I'm getting a strong "Cannonball Run" vibe from that YouTube clip ;), would love a long straight which is less boring and smooth than the Test Course where it's possible to achieve the topspeed of a car ( or appoaching it ) whilst still having to correct the steering and the danger of losing it.
It would indeed ( with all the bumps ) offer a far greater sense of speed and the added bonus of a beautiful desert as a background scene.

The 90 mile section is part of a highway that is about 1200 km between towns - so once you're on it, its ok. The problem is at the other end when you haven't turned the wheel for over an hour, you have to remind yourself how to do it.

Actually - it wouldn't make a very good racing game...

Just imagine 16 cars on a 90 mile straight...that would be SO UNREAL!!!
And turn off the collisions (or make it OPTIONal)

You'd need to have your slipstreaming down, because once they got away from you, there would be no catching up...

Hmm, can't we do something like this now with the new track editor feature?

10km straight on the course maker, what else do you want? a 15km straight in a Veyron would see you out of fuel at the end.

Re : 90 mile straight, most cars capable of doing 300+ would be out of fuel 1\3rd of the way!

Is that the Hays Plain in New South Wales? If so, I've driven it 👍
