The Optimus keyboard, looks stunning but also provides specialist buttons all with a OLED technology to display you buttons, but it comes with presets and a user SDK so you can make the buttons display what you want.

  • It’s in the initial stage of production.
  • We hope it will be released in 2006.
  • It will cost less than a good mobile phone.
  • It will be OS-independent (at least it’s going to be able to work in some default state with any OS).
  • It will support any language or layout.
  • Each key could be programmed to produce any sequence.
  • It will be an open-source keyboard, SDK will be available.
  • Some day it will be split (and made “ergonomic”).
  • It will most likely use the OLED technology (e-paper is sooo slow).
  • It will feature a key-saver.
  • Keys could be animated when needed.
  • It has a numeric keypad because we love it.

Repost, but very very cool, great for photoshop work and games.

Yeah this has been done before, but personally i'm happy to ogle again. I'm such a sucker for buying stuff like this that i will so long as Bruce's price is right. No more that £80 and it's mine :)

Agreed :)

I probably wouldn't even use all of it's features, but i'd definately consider buying one.

That's on the "to buy" list. That is so handy for Adobe Photoshop. I guess you could keys to show different layers.

That's pretty bad ass... I have a backlit keyboard now and I was wondering why they didn't do that from the beginning but this Optimus is backlit on crack! :scared: I really like it because if it helps me remember keystrokes all the better to save my sorry ass brain.
:dunce:👍

I want one too, but certainly not this year... at 100$ for 3 keys, it's currently a bit on the expensive side. You can pre-order it now, if you have some use for 3 additional keys :p.

Chris, re-read my post and the article... :)

What I'm saying is that at 33.33$ / key, that's not what I'd call affordable technology, for the moment.

I did read what you said. I said that you are looking at the WRONG PRODUCT! They have TWO (2) keyboards. You are looking at a three (3) keyed one, and we are looking at a FULL keyboard.

You happen to be reading about this -

- keyboard. We are not.

We are looking at this -

- keyboard.

Hm.

You're missing the point of my post Chris.

I know that they are two separate models, my brains seems to be working fine today. The article talks about both the full version that is currently in development and the currently availible 3 keys version, which uses exacly the SAME technology, and gives us an idea of what the full version would cost, at 100 bucks for 3 keys. This might be going done once it's mass-produced, but the first ones will most likely be very expensive toys.

Yes, I understand what you are saying now. Your post just never said anything about this keyboard, so I thought the only keyboard you were looking at was the one with three keys.

Sorry for the re-post, just that is so close to being out. cross this with the gaming finness of the K1 and that would be the best KB in the world.

K1 spec sheet

Considering I have white keys and I've had it for... a year now? I would've thought it would be yellow like my old one but it still looks new.

What happens when you get gamer grime all over your keyscreens? You KNOW it's going to be an issue. You're not playing hardcore enough if you haven't had at least some kind of grime formation.

My mouse goes before my keyboard does. If I had stuck with my original keyboard I've wouldn't been thought about 4-5 mice by now. Avg. of $30 ea.?

i don't have grime..but the fact they're little screens means one thing is gonna happen.....

Anyone ever notice what the Debut signature thing looks like at the grocery store in the one check out lane that's always open? it's all scratched up and gross in the spot where every button is...

give it time and the AWSD keys will get blurry and scratched...along with "www" and the space bar and left shift key..not in that order...but within a year they'll be of poor quality.

edit..-

reason you go through so many mice?

cause you're spending 30 bucks..

my microsoft wireless has been good for 3 years...works off 2 AAA batteries...has no "on off switch" and i've changed the batteries maybe 3 times max....still as good as new.

The screen on those debit things is replaceable--it's like a $5 item but the store are too stupid/lazy to have an extra one handy...

hopefully this keyboard will offer similar modularity...
