:nervous: Luckily I didn't have to click on anything, the link preview gave me the info I needed.

Just a reminder that the second and final race will take place tomorrow afternoon at 3pm EST. We'll follow the same schedule and procedure as we did on Tuesday, 10 minute qualifying session followed by a 4 lap heat race, a short break and then a 20 lap feature race with a reverse grid. Pit stops aren't mandatory but they will be necessary due to the "fast" tire/fuel wear. And don't forget to take a splash of fuel during your stop, I put 20 litres liters in at lap 12 and I had about 1/8th of a tank left when I finished, so I'd guess about 15 liters would be the minimum (depending on when you make your stop).

So, it will soon be time to start thinking about the next adventure. For now I like the idea of having a couple big races per month but admittedly I did get very tired of driving around Nurb. GP/F for a month so that will need to be addressed. I have some ideas floating around but nothing firm yet.

• The Rolex 24hrs of Daytona is fast approaching, perhaps that would be a good theme.
• I have recently acquired a hankering for some classic le Mans racing, perhaps with the $20million cars (Ferrari/Ford/Jag) or even the 787B/Jag xjr-9 type cars at le Sarthe with time change.
• Still like the Rally Cars idea, majority of them are very closely matched. Vintage or Modern?
• Or we could go silly and do some kind of ChumpCar racing. 💡
• My local short track occasionally features "school bus figure 8 racing".........maxed out SambaBuses at Top Gear Track??? :dunce:

Whatever we do, I think we need to inject some more "fun" into the racing. While the Tuesday night race was enjoyable, I spent the majority of the second half driving around by myself (which always seems to happen in longer races) and that does tend to get old rather quickly. I'd like to break that mold and find something that's fun for everyone from beginning to end yet still provides exciting competition. 👍

RE: ChumpCar - I've always wanted to get in one of the "Lemons to Le Mans" type series that are on here, but none of them have ever been convenient... I think that would be a fun series.

Just waiting to hear if I have to work this weekend or not. I'm going to try and finagle it so I am conveniently unable to work due to forces beyond my control...💡

Generally speaking, the faster the car, the bigger the spread in the field. If it's closer racing you want then slower cars are the way to go. I like driving the LeMans cars, I'm struggling to tune the Ferrari at the moment it's a real handful, but they are so much easier to make a mistake in they generally don't provide for closer racing unless the talent level is perfectly equal and even then it's not likely for more than a few laps. A half second gap in a 450PP car can be a 2 second gap in an LMP.

I won't be able to take part, my wheel has broken down :(

Sorry to hear that. Maybe we'll see you at the next go-round. 👍

Same here. I know similar things have been done on GTP before, but I've never participated. I think there could be a lot of flexibility and a lot of fun to be had with that type of thing.

I do particularly enjoy the $20M cars.

Same here, yet I've never "officially" raced any of them. I spent the effort to acquire the large sums of cash needed to purchase them, I should at least do some kind of racing with them. :odd:

I didn't mean to imply the LeMans idea would produce closer racing. I've been watching a lot of "vintage racing" lately, including LeMans from both of the above eras, and since we have most of those elements in GT5 it has me wanting to do something with it. Our 575pp Touring Car races has proved that the faster the cars, the more obvious the gap in talent.

The ChumpCar idea though could produce some fun, close racing since it would likely be in lower powered cars and likely with full tuning/customization available. During our weekly race nights we could do lots of back-to-back shorter races on shorter tracks which should provide much more excitement/enjoyment, but with less seriousness. Perhaps we could have a monthly Enduro as well. Outrageous paint jobs, wheels and wings would be encouraged. :trouble:

I've raced both of these concepts online before at La Sarthe (both with heavy damage), I can almost guarantee you won't see much close racing and even less side-by-side racing. However, I still greatly enjoyed the racing. There was always drama (I personally once blew a one-minute lead with two crashes in the second half of such a Group C race) and if you have a large grid, such races always create a sense of occasion too. You drive on your own most of the time (besides lapping others or being lapped, which is trickier in such cars), but it's not that big of a deal if you enjoy driving those great machines in the first place. These kind of races are very different to the close sprint races you/we do in ORCA most of the time. It's not for everyone, you'd certainly have to properly gauge interest from within the group first before starting to plan such a race.

I can confirm I will be racing tomorrow. I've got free time from now until 9 pm local (10 pm EST) so I'm heading to the lounge right now to practice. Of course, as always, anyone is welcome to join me.

Edit: Leaving the lounge now.

It would be a one-time thing, kinda like these touring cars. But I like that sense of occasion, the handful of day-night-day races we've done had that feeling and I really enjoyed it.

But......I might have thought up a way to make it a bit more exciting and possibly add to the sense of occasion. It's not really a new idea, but a slightly different way of applying it.

The "theme", if you will (all details are for example only) would be a 12 lap race (with time change) and two "artificial full course cautions". In practice we would actually do three back-to-back-to-back races, the few minutes of break between the races would the be "caution periods". This caution period is mearly figurative to add to the "theme" of a Le Mans race. But what it would do is bunch the field back up and give everyone more close quarters racing.

The first race could be, for example, 2 laps, the second race 4 laps, and the third race 6 laps. Or 2, 5 and 5, or 2, 6 and 4. The second and third race could either start with "results from previous race" which would put us right back in the order we were, basically like restarting after a "caution". :sly: Or, we could do reverse grid if we wanted to really make things interesting. 💡

I could see scoring it a couple different ways, shortest overall elapsed time or average finish between the three races. To do elapsed time I would add up each drivers elapsed times from the three races, lowest time wins. To do average finish I'd just take the average of everyone's finishing position, best overall average wins. Either way, the idea is that it's one big event, not three smaller events.

Calling the break between the races a "caution" is just to illustrate the thought that it's really one big race. Or we could call them "driver changes". :dunce: But since we'd bunch the field up a couple times it should keep things from getting spread out and boring. Doing reverse grid would be a way to help balance between the slow and the fast drivers and it would give everyone a chance to run up front. Also, we could have a smoke/pee break between the races if necessary! lol If we really wanted to balance the field we could have the top two drivers after each race limit their engine 5 or 10pp , kind of like a "penalty ballast". I could just change the restriction to 570pp real quick, have those two enter, then change it back to 575 for everyone else to join. By the third race, the longest race of the three, we'd have a fairly well balanced field. 💡

Just brain-storming here, but that seems like it could work well. People could race just one or two of the races if that's all their schedule allows. It satisfies the urge for competition knowing you have to do well over all three races, and without the need for a big points system. It keeps the race from becoming "glorified hot-lapping". If you make a mistake or get caught in a crash early your evening won't be wasted. Lots of positives. 👍

I cannot make it today either. I have a family obligation to attend to.

No go for me too... The woman says I have to take her to lunch and shopping...

D'oh

The lounge is open, I kinda doubt we'll have enough people to race though.

Be there shortly...figures...I make a race when the turnout is low:grumpy:

Will it be to late to join in?
Didn't expect to be able to join tonight, but things turned out right... Even that I haven't got any tracktime in this combo :nervous:

I thought the race was tonight? Don't know why I thought that, I will be at work for a couple more hours but then I am free to run some races, if anyone is aroun still?...

Sorry we missed ya bdub.

Good racing today guys, not a huge crowd but better than I thought. I think this little experiment worked out fairly well, I'd like to hear feedback if you have any. I think I might start testing out the Le Mans idea I posted earlier, all depends on if I can get some cars to match up.

There's maintenance scheduled for Tuesday, popular thought is that we will get the unmasked version.

I would be genuinely happy if we did... I think the styling is great, best looking Vette in years.

Likely the case, but if it sounds like the other vettes..👎👎

/\ GM Hater. Ignore him lol

If he ever got behind the wheel of a modern v8 powered car I truly think his perceptions would change on the whole thing.

Only fault I see in the new Vette. Is I don't have one. Ok maybe lack of round tail lights is something I didn't expect. The rest, is well incredible.

I love the way they call it the 2014 model. Is that when the first customers can actually expect it to be delivered? :)

Just stirring!

I have nothing against V8's, I'm just not a fan of "American" cars in general, specifically I am a hater of anything and everything GM.

To me a Corvette is like a blonde bimbo super model. Looks great, probably great in bed, but inside she's dumber than a box of rocks which I could not live with every day. :dopey: Just my opinion, which probably differs from others, but we're all entitled to have our own and none of them are right or wrong. 👍
