Well we've had a heartburn thread, a wisdom teeth thread, and now I am introducing the Migraine thread.

I'd heard all about them, the sensitivity to light and sound, the nausea, the excuciating pain like an axe through your friggin' skull, and the irrational thinking and impulses. I laid down on the couch in the computer room with the lights off. The monitor was too bright so I turned it off. Then the puny LED on the speaker was too much. That's just ridiculous. I just laid there unable to sleep, totally incapacitated with pain. I've become one of those poor saps I used to pity. It is an affliction.

Yesterday was only my second migraine and I'm not even sure if it's really gone or not. Six months ago I would've considered what I have today a bad headache, but compared to yesterday it's a walk in the park... on broken glass mind you, but a walk in the park nonetheless.

Anyone else get these? Any over the counter pills work? I'm planning on trying Excedrin.

Have you ever tried that BC Powder stuff? I heard that works really well, and fast.

I just get bad headaches, never had a migrane, thank God!

I've had one. I felt it coming on when I gained a blind spot in the center of my field of vision. That was weird.

My mom smells popcorn when she has one coming. Messed up stuff.

yeah i get migrains alot.
Excedrin works best on reliveing the pain.
ive had them for about 5 years or so havent got one in a while though.

I thought I perceived an anomoly in my vision, too. Like everything had a milky white film over it. It came on at the movies (we saw The Two Towers) so I guess I smelled popcorn, too.

Man it sucks. It made me kind of a psycho ass hole. If they keep coming (I'm afraid they will) I will need to cope better.

Yes . . . I had one once. Half my of field of vision became blurred, and then I got this killer headache and had to go into my room with all lights off and the door closed. No one believed me, though. They just told me it was a headache and I was making a big deal out of it.

 :banghead:

I've been a migraine sufferer for most of my life, and the only over the counter drug that worked was Excedrin Migraine. It consisted of Tylenol(Acetaminophen), Aspirin and Caffeine.
I've had to give up several things in the past few months, and Caffeine was one of them, so I had to stop taking them.
Here's a good list of things that will cause migraines in some people:
Caffeine or being deprived of other addictions such as nicotine or even sugar.
Alteration of your sleep patterns. Sleeping too little or too long, or changing from day to night can have adverse effects on people sensative to migraines.
Stress. Both mental and physical stress can cause migraines. Tension in the muscles in the back can often lead to migraines, but most people aren't aware that the two are closely bound together. (Get a massage)
Changes in air pressure. When weather systems move in and out(ever feel the wind pick up, and get colder only to get a migraine shortly after that?), the air pressure can change rapidly and your sinuses are very sensative to this. This can be combatted by taking Tylenol + cold or anything that will help clear your sinuses (Halls, Vicks, Ricola.)
People that are sensative to migraines may be affected by one or more of these things (and other reasons, but these are the most common.)
I would absolutely give up caffeine though, as that cut mine down to a fraction of what I used to get. (plus most doctors will say the same thing.)

I've suffered from migraine headaches for over ten years now. I have it around once a month. It starts with a black dot in my vision, like i've watched into the sun too long.
Usually it puts me out for one or two days. Then i just lay on my bed with the lights off and the curtains closed, avoiding even the slightest movement of my head. Because that inflicts a horrible pain.

And still after ten years, i still don't know what my "trigger" is.

I drink a lot of coffee. It's hard to imagine stopping. Sometimes I don't sleep enough; I'm pretty busy and then I try to squeeze in some GT when I should be in bed. I don't know how many times I've fallen asleep while playing. No wonder I never win the spot races

Mine is almost gone for now. It slowly waned all day and I feel better. I'm starving now. I haven't eaten since Saturday.

I started getting them when I was about thirteen (copped a really bad concussion) - I would average about 1 a year - tend to be stress related.

I can usually pick when I'm getting them - I'll find the room will over the course of the day start to get brighter, and I'll usually develop the migraine the next day. When it's fully 'on' I need to lie in bed, with the shades drawn, with as little noise as possible. Vision in my left eye will become distorted, occasionally to the point where I can't see out of it.

Over the last two or three years I've noticed they seem to be getting less painful, although the vision effects are much the same.

Since they only last a day, I don't take anything for them.

This recurring theme of vision anomolies is so creepy. For at least 24 hrs before my pain started my vision was sorta opalescent or through a filter of some kind. I'm glad you guys mentioned it or I would've thought I had a brain tumor or something.

Watch... now I probably do

24 hrs before the pain started?

Wow, that's alot, man. So you walk an entire day with filtered vision? Sounds almost as annoying as the headache itself.

It was intermittent. It'd come for a bit and then stay away for longer.

Yeah - migraines are generally caused by a temporary restriction in blood flow to part of the brain, so I imagine that there would be associated blood pressure issues - if your restriction causes pressure changes around your eyes, then it would make sense that your vision would play up - eye balls are very sensitive to blood pressure. It's quite disturbing, though.

I haven't had a migraine yet, but I do get headaches... for example, I have a headache right now, since my LCD screen is a little too bright. :D

That's mostly what causes my headaches (and my degrading vision)... being on the computer too long. However, if I lower the brightness on my screen a few notches, it usually helps.

I don't drink caffeine, so no experience there.

Interesting you should mention that... I've had that feeling for a long time now (maybe a year?)... However, I've visited several eye doctors, and glasses aren't going to help. You see, I have an intersting condition, where my right eye is severely nearsighted (in fact, it's rated at 20/50), while my left eye is farsighted (though not as extensive as my right eye; it's close to 50/50).

Thus, my vision is kinda wacky-- as if everything is through a filter, as you said.

However, I've gotten used to it, and it hasn't actually caused any harm to me. :)

I tend to get really bad headaches(maybe migranes) about every couple of weeks. I think my latest one lasted for about a week and a half; I had muscle spasms in my left eye the entire time. It drove me crazy. Eventually it went away though.

I had a small migraine about two years ago, and it was at about 3PM and i had two panadols (one every three hours) and slept for ages and it went away..

I don't get migranes...one of my freinds does though. He says that when he has one he has super senses and that he can hear stuff really far away.

I get headaches sometimes...not too often, and they don't hurt much...

My vision is like 30/40 though...I don't use my glasses cause using them makes your eyes use to them and without them your vision is worse...I'm waiting till I'm 18 or whatever and get Laser surgury.
