who cares. this is jsut stupid. When the game comes out i think if ther is a car/track that someone likes they will pay tah one dollar or so for it.

Ofcourse, i did not mean anything else. :)

But, i would not like PD to toss _to_ much time into it, me however would love to test new cars out, keep the game "fresh" so to speak. Id like both the old and the new version of Fuji for example..

I think people are getting bored so they make USELESS threads. When the game come out im sure for atleast 2 years we will all be too busy to worry about ew cars notheless new tracks.

IMHO there will not be much downloadable "content" for GT4. Ghosts of best drivers, and some records. Cars, tracks and so on - I doubt.

If all players can't have new content, there will be no new content, and I'M pretty sure about thet philosophy.

But, Sony's Vice President Kaz Hirai made an intresting statement about real-trading for future GT game. He said that Sony is working on establishing a service where we'll be able to sell and buy cars for real money, as seen on Ebay for characters and items of Everquest series. I think that is the model PD and Sony would prefer more, no matter of revenues they could achieve trough pure bonus-content.

I think in the interest of compatability's sake, GT4 is all we'll get. What PS2 online games actually offer expansion at the moment? I don't know any personally but I don't know everything.
Actually, both the games that use the PS2 HDD have downloadable content. And remember, one of the reasons Polyphony made the GT Concepts was to experiment with modular content. That should tell you that they're thinking about using expansion discs for future GTs.

Where? Where's the evidence? I won't take anything to be 'confirmed' unless you have it in writing.

something like http://showmetheevidence.com/iwanttoknowthetruth.html
Give me one of those and i'll be satisfied.

It has been discussed numerous times.... How can you can you call yourself a GT fan, if you don't know the most common information..... I mean, at E3 it was confirmed to be a part of GT4 (I'll try and find a link).... Also, I don't quite underastand what you guys are having a problem with... There have been expansion packs for PC games for years.... It is not as difficult, or problematic as you all seem to think.....

Hmm, to keep a good skin quality it needs to be above a certain resolution. And with very rich skins it is very hard to keep it below 400 in lfs.
Life for Speed is a PC game where the graphic resolutions are magnitudes above the PS2, and will require much higher detail in the skins for them to look the right. With the crappy PS2 resolution, a fairly detailed (again, for the PS2) skin could easily be packed into a 150kb file.. Probably even less..

I am not an ultra-devoted GT maniac and i do have other priorities dude, lay off..

Whoa, it was just a friendly joke......

I keep forgetting that it is hard to tell emotion, through typing....

I should have included an emoticon, so it would have been more easily understood......

Presumably the PS2 Hard disk is USB external?

Uh no it's basically a modified 40GB 5400RPM Seagate HDD from what I read, connects via IDE through a bay in your PS2. Don't quote me on that because I'm not removing my network adaptor to check the connection.

Basically it has a pass-thru port on it then... like most old (parrellel) scanners... so you could attach a scanner and a printer!

More to the point... why such a duff HDD...

You can pick those up for about 20 quid from shops... and they're gonna charge us £100 talk about being done over!

Why can't they give us a good size HDD that has at least a 7200RPM and a good sized buffer?

Maybe the PS2 hardware can't support such a device?!

C.

EDIT

http://www.ugo.com/channels/tech/features/ps2_hdd/default.asp

You do need the Network adaptor for the HDD to work... RAPE!!

You can stick in other HDDs, but they have to be fairly modern so I've heard i.e. 5 years old max probably. I've heard of people putting in their own 80gig 7200rpm drives. You need to format them using special tools.

Although I'm not sure, but I think you need a modded PS2 to have your own brand of HDD.

Makes sense. Encourages even more people to buy mod chips though...#

By the way, who would have use for a drive bigger than 40GB to start with anyway? There are only a couple of games that will use it that we know of now, and i don't imagine there will be many until the PS3.

At the time the HDD was conceptualised and released that was probably one of the more affordable options, I know I was buying my computer around that time and 30GB wasn't bad. Why they haven't upgraded it is probably for compatability's sake so that developers know they are always drawing on the same drive space with the same access times, etc.

In another thread we were discussing the HDD and its features, and the fact people have allowed the PS2 to support up to a 120GB drive. I don't see why the Network Adaptor would be a necessity, and you don't need to pull the PS2 apart to install one, simply remove the "Expansion Bay" cover at the back of your PS2 and you'll see a giant cavern for it to slide into. The Network Adaptor attaches onto the back of this area, over the top as an extension to the original unit.

Hmm, no power connection with the NA, that's really clever o_O By the look of it though it's just a standard HDD with a fancy mounting system, so you could run a spare connector from your PC to your PS2 if you're bored, or if like me you have an old power supply kicking around. I have the NA though.

Back to the original subject... In the Flight Simulator world on the PC, people are willing to pay between $20-30 or sometimes even more for good quality expansion planes and scenery. Check out www.flight1.com for some good examples. Obviously GT graphics wouldn't be as detailed as what we've come to expect on a PC (after all this time we still don't have a dashboard view?) and therefore the prices wouldn't be the same, but I believe the same general type of market is there. If GT4 comes out and I'm not happy with the range of American or Australian cars included, then I would be perfectly glad to pay to download an expansion pack when it becomes available.

Exactly.... Well put...

I would be more than happy to spend a little cash for an expansion....

Hey if it involves me being able to download afew Torries ill be happy.

Of course usually the person you race will have to have the car you use to be able to see it, but hopefully if PD use this idea they will have all the cars files linked to their server, if this works it would enable everyone to be able to use their own cr and other who dont have it to still be able to see it.

Personally i want it to be free, but i dont mind paying a little but $3 a track is a little steep concidering half of us wont be able to get the tracks we want, we will be stuck with US and European tracks, which arent bad at all but i want a choise of Aussie tracks, especially Bathurst.

Yeh another idea for cars would be to actually add cars that have been modded by companies in japan, such as Top Secret, Veilside(which was in a supposed car list i had a look at), JUN,HKS, and others coz they have brilliant cars and i find it wierd they werent in the game from the beginning.

I think 99c for one bloody car is nuts. $3 for a track? Are you on crack? How bout this:
Little packs that have updates and news stuff:
10 new cars
2-3 new tracks
fixes for glitches exploits etc
updates for current cars and tracks (sound updates, graphics imperfections that are highly noticable)
And I would pay like $5-8 for that. That's all it's worth, and if they want more, well screw them I will find a way to bootleg it or somthing. Not paying over $150 for the HDD and game and then have to fork over oodles of money left and right for little to no content. And I also have to get a damn network adapter..
