PD should make a flight/combat sim

Not so much a combat sim, but I think they would excel at making a flight sim. If they did it would probably be the PS3's answer to MS Flight Simulator.
However, if they did do a combat sim it would no doubt be the best one ever. We already have a quality WW2 one in the shape of IL2 Birds Of Prey, so if they were to make one about modern aviation, that'd be cool.
But PD probably don't know anything about planes.
If Kaz was to get as involved in his research as much as he did with the GT series he would probably trigger WW3 - you could just imagine him flying about shooting everything that moves in his quest for authenticity!!

If PD made a flight sim, there'd be 20 "premium" planes with "interiors" and 80 without.

:dopey:

Well if it's as good as the "Ace Combat" series---I'm all for it.

Wasn't really into the Ace Combat series. A bit too arcadey for me, plus having to do missions against a time limit was just frustrating.
As far as console flight sims go, the ones I remember as being decent were Eagle One: Harrier Attack on the PS1, and something by Taito on the PS2 but can't remember what it was - anybody remember it?
On the PS3, IL2 Birds Of Prey and HAWX are the only ones worth playing.

For once I agree with something you have said!!!
I still play this sometimes, very occasionally if I am very bored admittedly, but Eagle One: Harrier Attack was a tremendous game!

I think it is very bad idea. They should stick with GT. May be try bringing more type of motorsport. Try to make it more real with every iteration :)

It would be in development for 25 years while PD tries to map out every leaf on every tree in Tokyo, then they'll branch out and try to get the rest of Japan.

To say that PD should stick to just GT(or racing games in general) would be liking saying that Pixar should stick to making Toy Story movies only or Mel Gibson should make only make lethal weapon movies. In case of PD making GT games alone IMO is nothing but a waste of talent and for all I care, I wouldn't be suprise if some at PD have grown tired of making just GT games.

The closes thing to MSFX we have on a console Aero Elite, however despite the relative popularity flight games on consoles, its a shame there isn't a current flight sim, and I'm not speaking about the Ace Combat games which aren't really a sim in the first place.

Well they did make tourist trophy. But I think making racing game is their specialty and Kaz has a major influence in it to go for realism. For flight sim they don't only need talented developers they will have to find someone who is a real pilot or something and genuinely interested in making a flight sim :p

perhaps they should make something similar to Reno Air races? that would be sweet.. starting off with old Sopwith Camel, then moving on to Hurricane, then into Mustang, andd finally into jets.. and naturally they all could be modified like the real planes are.

I remember there was a game on PS1 they did that had nothing to do with the GT series or racing games. It was a sort of 3D mech-shooter called Omega Boost. As far as I can remember it had nice graphics but very little else going for it. Probably one of the reasons they stuck with the racing genre.

As for a flight sim, all they need to do is get the physics right. The rest I'm sure they could do with their eyes shut.

Being a fan of MS Flight Simulator, and flight sims in general, i have to agree with A2K78 above in that it is a pity there isn't a decent 'realistic' one on console. With the power of PS3 and 360, and a proper Logitech-designed pheripheral to go with it, it would probably be fantastic. However, the scope of something like MSFS may cause problems. A Blu-ray disc may JUST have enough room for the entire world for PS3, but the 360 may struggle. I could see only part of being released on disc and the rest as DLC, but then again will people want their HDD for their console overcome with data for just ONE game? For it to be graphically acceptable, it's a longshot.

I heard it's in development - it'll be out in 2022.. Prologue that is..

Nah. When they finally get round to making it it will be just after GT6 - around the same time that cars in real life will be equipped with hover functionality and wings. So it will be the best of both worlds. Kaz will be an old man and his frail demeanor will mean he can't be at the PD offices as long. I'm thinking 2050.................and it will be called: (Drum roll)

GRAN TURISMO AIR CONCEPT TOURIST TROPHY.....PROLOGUE
