Seriously, this is what you call an event. I want to hear about it. How many days did it take you? I find it difficult to believe that many people actually stayed up and played this game for 24 hours straight (and that's a minimum... eating/bathroom breaks??).


I just finished the Indy 500 A-Spec race, simply to get the gold trophy and prize car, and just to do it once. It wasn't a walk in the park driving in a circle for over two hours by any means. I had to mute the game and crank some music to zone out of it after a while. There certainly was a level of enjoyment to it, but I'm not going to do that race ever again. There's no point. You can get far more EXP or credits by grinding the American Championship or Dream Car races at Indy in two hours time.


So, I just can't see myself completing one of the 24-hour A-Spec races in less than 4 days time, if that, with game pauses in between. So I'd like to hear how other people have pulled it off.

Actually, depedning on what car you used, I believe that the Indy 500 gives 300 more XP per minute than the Dream Car Championship.
I did Indy 500 twice.
 
Honestly, I don't see myself doing much A-Spec grinding past level 30 anyway. I play this game for enjoyment, and I'll reach the higher levels eventually while having a good time doing it. I'm not in a rush to ruin a perfectly good game within 2 months like some people. I honestly don't understand that mentality, especially when it took years for GT5 to come out.
 
Don't worry, once you get to level 30, you'll unlock the Vettel challenge.
I levelled up to level 33, very close to 34, with only Bronze, Gold, Gold. Then the X1 will help in Endurance races.
 
Its a full-on 24hr non-stop.

The last one i did was GT4 and it was La Sarthe, it nearly killed me and took 5 days, all done with a DS controller. Back then it was harder, no X1 to walk the field!

The only advice i can give is use the X1 and run 18-20 hours then park up and keep checking every so often, you dont need to race the full 24hr you just need to be ahead when the timer reaches 0.
 
I will do the 24hr races once I get the G27 , I thinking about streaming it on Ustream Live. but I wanna ask , Does the time change in real time?
 
I did the 24hr nurburgring race in GT4.

Took my playstation to work during a long weekend (actually it was 4 days) when I had the place to myself. I set up my little 34cm tv in my office and did roughly 6 hours a night on it, packing up everything but the playstation+power cord every morning before I left. I even covered up the console in case anyone did go into the office during the day (I shared it with another guy) so they wouldn't know I was sitting on my butt, playing GT4 all night :)

I forget how many laps I did but I won by a decent margin using a 400bhp wrx rally car and got paid for my time too. I couldn't do that again though. I have a better job now but i have more responsibilities and I wouldn't go back to a controller after moving on to a wheel.
 
If you care about grinding for xp a 24hour race is an easy way to get a ton of xp without doing any work. You get the same amount of xp for coming last as you do for coming first.
Set it going, go visit the outside world/go to work, come back to your ps3 and do 1 lap.
Bag a load of xp. The same goes for the 4h races.

As for trying to win it i reckon i could race about 4-6 hours a day so if I had the X1 I could leave it after 20 hours and therefore do it in about 4 days

Edit: you dont get the same amount of EXP just by entering the race and finishing last on timed races. I think it is to do with distance travelled maybe...... Im unsure??

I wish I could pull off the same trick! But it's hard to sit on the construction site with a PS3 and a decent TV in the snow :P
 
There is an easy way to complete this race.

1. Take your X1 2010 car
2. Chose any 24 hour race
3. Drive for 4 / 5 hours and leave your car somewhere near the track, so the other cars don't smash into it.
4. But don't pause the game. Just let clock count another 3 or 4 hours. During that time other cars will close that gap and overtake you.
5. So after only 4 hours of driving you had another 4 hours of resting and 8 on the clock. Repeat that for like 3 times and thats it. 12 hours or driving and 12 hours of parking your car.

But you have to remember one thing! You can win this race in 1st place but you will have to make your calculations Right. How many hours you can leave your X1 2010 and let other cars close that gap and how much time it would take you to catch them. This is important.

And Im trying to get Plantinum GT5 throphy, but I WILL NOT, play 24 H endurance races on my first and only, old Fat 60GB PS3.. So that means, I have to risk my PS3 with YLOD to complete this game? If thats going to happen I will be very, very disappointed and angry. I hope alot PD will think twice and fix this by creating a SAVE GAME option while racing or doing PIT stop, so we all can complete this game without burning to death our PS3's.

Its turning them on and off quite often that will cause problems.

Ha, I was working at a construction site of sorts... we (or I should say they) were building a 11 km stretch of dual highway.

I agree, but Its kind of a lotery ticket, you just get or do not get a faulty PS3 system. The problem is with overheating, and 2 of my friends already got YLOD one month ago in same time both, and we all buyed it in same time, same store! So For me this is a problem. So I have reasons to be afraid. :indiff:
 
I can't wait to get to level 35 to do the 24h of LeMans. I'm almost 32 now and will be grinding Suzuka 1000km for a while.

It works well if you get others involved. On Xmas day I managed to grind Suzuka 1000km twice with 4 people swapping every 10 laps.

this is basically what i want to do, i just need some data first from anyone who has done either of the 24hr races in an X1.

IE; average lap times you can do in an X1, compared to average lap times of the closest competitors.

which i think will be the hardest part cause theres no way of finding out what lap times they do is there?

i figure it will be more fun this way, you can build up a huge leap, go to bed, wake up and spend the rest of the day catching up to try and take the lead back before the 24hrs are up lol.

im fairly sure if i remember correctly this is what i did in previous 24hr events.

i only ever did one full 24hr event and that was nurburg 24hr in R-factor in a racing league and i managed 19hrs straight lol.
 
Am a veteran of 7 or 8 24hr races on GT4, not that difficult really. 8hrs per day is usually the norm for me, did nearly 11hrs in one day on my last race to finish it off. Hardest part is getting motivated to do them, they are exhausting to do even being able to pause the game. Most important thing to do is use a car you are very comfortable with. I wouldn't use my X2010 as I would be off the track for half the race as you need lot's of concentration, a nice slower car is much easier to use and would be more forgiving.👍
 
it's sad to see that some people are killing their PS3's over this game PD really should think about the wear to people's property, 24 hours of straight hot PS3 usage, 👎 I don't know if I will do one of those 24hr events, my ps3 cost me 400 bucks and this game cost me 59.
Plus I have a job/life/things to do lol
 
In GT4 I'd have weekend endurance race partys. Get 3 or 4 drivers and hang out grill, drink etc. and do 2-4 hour stints at a time. It's a little hard to schedule, but it's really fun!

I can't wait untill eveyone gets up to speed on GT5 so we can do some more.

Of course, it would be really cool if you could do this on the network. where you trade off drivers when you pit. You could race around the world!
 
i'm planning to do it full 24 hour non-stop just to feel the experience. :dopey: Probably on le sarthe due to it's simplicity. Just 2 drivers, me and my brother switching on 2 hr basis :sly:

All you people worrying about YLOD, or that GT5 might brick your PS3 are idiots... You'd think FOX News did a fear mongering piece on the YLOD and all the saps just ate it up

I too have the launch 60GB and it does at least 18hr days 90% of the time, sometimes stays on for a week or more without turning it off. Think about the incredibly low percentage of people on a board that get the YLOD. Can't be more than 1%, probably like 0.5% or less, also keep in mind that the percentage of forum users who experience this issue will be higher simply due to the fact that when someone gets the YLOD the first thing they'll do is sign up for a forum (if they have not already) and make a "OMG _____ KILLED MY PS3!!! YLOD!!!" post. So the overall rate of failure within the general population will be lower than what will be found among the subset population of a forum board.

tl:dr There is no problem running your PS3 for days straight in a normal environment!

TBH, it isn't PD's fault that Sony designed the console in a horrible way to allow overheating. If there's anyone to blame about overheating, it's Sony.
