I agree, Copy Protection shouldn't exist at all and it definitely needs removing from GT5. Fifa saves have no Copy Protection but are locked to the user, so there is no reason why Sony couldn't do that at the very least.

Get rid of the copy protection
If anything happens to my save file or console, their is no way I'm doing it all over again.

tomricci, i feel really bad for you.

I'll probably be playing GT5 for 2 or 3 years, after all i played GT4 till last october ^^. But i swear, if my PS3 YLODs and i loose my progress after 300 or 400 hundred hours, i'll never forgive this to Sony.

So just remove that stupid hardware based copy protection, and just lock it to the PSN account so we can back it up and/or play on different systems.

Thank you. And yes my exact thoughts.

Yep. Hell, anything, even if PD locks it to their own Save-Backup server or something and it can ONLY be attached to one PSN account with a password and special permission.

Usually (read: always) any game with online has SOME way to backup your data. Whether it be just a regular copy (most games, including offline ones) or a separate backup server (World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, Steam, etc.)...

They should allow to copy the savegame to an usbstick. But then they should make the savefile linked to just one PSN account. Just this account gets access to the savedata...

When sony intends nothing to do, then we need just to wait when the first guys start to attempt suicide after an YLOD...

Don't know why people oppose this or even why its in place.

If someone wants to download a save game and play offline and use the cars he's interested in, it shouldn't concern you. If someone wants to ruin online races, all you need is a few cars which can easily be bought by even bad drivers.

Can these linked ID save files be easily edited and uploaded for everyone to use?

And besides, to ruin online racing doesn't require complete saves. Any hack driver can amass enough money to buy a few cars and punt you to hell and back.

What does that mean - fairly? Fair to whom and in what sense?

Why can't I pay someone to play and unlock everything for me? I go to work everyday and make lots of money but I do not have time to play GT5. Someone else is good at GT5 and wants some of my money.

I would pay $150 for an all gold, fully unlocked, good car collection, and tons of cash save.

This is the reason the saves are protected. People like you are causing legit players to lose their progress if their ps3 breaks or their save data gets corupted.

If you don't put the time in you don't deserve the rewards.

Although I agree that it would be more fair if everyone just played the game, I don't see why a lot of players want Sony to copy protect the data so this can't happen.
I don't care what people do with their playstation. I don't mind people having huge 'stolen' trophy lists. All I care about is what I am doing on my playstation and keeping whatever I've been doing safe from crashes.

Besides: The real GT5 competition is not about what players have achieved in gtlife, it's about what they have achieved online.

Very true

The thing is though that the cheats will have cars that they would not normally have. These cars may give them an advantage online against players who have played legit and not unlocked/bought them yet.

I just wish there was an option backup the save game on a Sony server. I don't care where it's backed up or how they do it as long as it's protected.

GET RID OF IT!! If my ps3 dies and i loose years of darta and progress........ well its unimaginable!!!!

The only reason that saves a locked to PS3 is Sony/PD making a bad decision.

There's no reason to bother with GT mode other than you are forced to do it. Downloading a 100% save is no less legit than wasting time winning credits to buy cars.

I've done it 5 times, and I'm sick of it 5 times over. I don't mind people like you getting your fun from playing a poorly designed mode of play (IMO). But I'd rather enjoy the game. If me getting my way hurt your fun in some way, I would understand the opposition. But it doesn't, so you have no reason to complain.

For the 100000000000000000000000000000000000th time. If someone goes and makes an online race with no restrictions when all they have is a Subaru 360, they deserve to lose. Stupid excuses do not justify stupid features.

Signed.

Locked to PSN name seems like a good idea, but many still don't use online. My son has his own game save profile under his PS3 login, but he's too young (IMO) to have a PSN account...

The reasoning that i see is due to the gift process, if you could copy a save, even to one account, you could gifta multi-million car over and over and over. Every day.

I just had to respond, and bear in mind we are not asking for open saves just saves tied to a PSN ID account that can be backed up.

@elephant, nothing at all, and this is no big deal. Of course you would have to let them have your PSN ID and login (which might be considered not a good thing to do) or it would be the equivalent of friend coming around to your home to help you, which I am sure oftens happens in the gaming world.

@supersub. Utter rubbish.
Saves are protected because Polyphony have not thought about this/ do not care (when are people going to work out that it is not a Sony decision as other Sony-owned game developers do not tie saves to a single PS eg Evolution with Motorstorm).

The 'Community Team Leader' (MusterBuster) on the PSN forums is apparently going to raise the issue along with other things...

You haven't been reading my posts! I've said multiple times that this is really quite annoying. I can't access my Red Bull X1 from home because it's in the garage on my work console!

But - I need to explain to you why this is so.

Call of Duty. Look at all the hacks that emerged from modifying save game data.

I've got a meeting later this week to discuss community feature requests, at the least - I will request that users are allowed to make more than one save file so that data can be backed up manually. The ideal solution for me though is cloud based save files.

Better than nothing

Even with restrictions certain cars are better than others.

If it's not the case then why put protection on in the first place?

Would love to be able to backup game saves... maybe an online upload might be a good idea... keeps the game save secure while being able to backup your own data..

I backup my save games every time I play it... No data-loss if PlayStation 3 dies. Just can't backup Gran Turismo 5...

Even with restrictions certain cars are better than others.

A non issue thanks to PP. Except that most people seemed to cheer for the death of PP even though it was one of the absolute best features to grace Gran Turismo.

Either way, the current online system allows anyone to exclude any cars they don't like from their room by limiting car selection or just kicking people who break their rules. So it's not an issue.

You cannot defend locked saves logically.
