Anyone else struggling with the concept of this mode? I get photomode in Forza, you can paint your cars there, it makes total sense why you would want to take photos, show them to others, why others would want to see them.... but I dont really get why they built this whole photo travel mode when all of our cars look the same anyway. Why would I want to see someone elses photo of cars that look just like the ones I already own?

I guess Im looking to be sold on what's special about this mode. I dont want to feel like it's a waste, and there must be a good use for it, but whatever it is, it's eluding me right now.

It doesn't have to be unique to be eye candy.

That's what Im struggling with. To me it does. Without that I dont even get the point of it. Maybe I just need to play around with it and see what it can do. I only bring this up since it's the one mode in this game that seems a little useless.

Those guys can make a normal car look brilliant. Now imagine those brilliant car photos in a higher resolution. That's what photomode is about.

So basically it's like real photography then. Alright well that makes more sense. I'm a photographer myself, and it's extremely challenging to create beautiful photos no matter what kind of camera you have, that's what's appealing about it. Maybe it's the same thing here. If so then that would be cool.

People who love cars will love photomode. i definately will !!!

I kind of get that, but you can just go look at photos at real cars though. I guess the concept of it is just a little weird to me if there isnt anything actually unique about the cars in these photos.

Maybe it will all click once I use it.

Cars look good outside of the Forza series.

Understood, you missed my point. When I look at people's photos in Forza 3, the only reason was to see their designs. If I wanted to look at plain cars Id go look at some actual photos of real cars.

See what I mean?

I know a lot of people are into the whole Photo Mode thing, but I am sort of like you, in the sense that I don't plan to use it. But even if we could customize the cars like in Forza, I still would not be interested in it. I want to race not take pictures. For me, I wish they would've scrapped it to conentrate on other aspects of the game. Don't mean to offend anyone, just my opinion.

I find it a little strange that you're a photographer and didn't see the appeal... I'm really excited about photo mode, but it's definitely not just because I want a picture of a car. I'm excited about fiddling with the settings, seeing how artistic I can be, getting those unusual angles and awesome action shots during races and so on. As a photographer you'll know that 1000 people could take photos of the same subject and all achieve different results, that's what keeps it fun.

To be honest, I got GT4 when it was released. Until last month I´ve started playing whith the photo mode and saving pics on my computer. Its fun, but it really does´nt make any sense on this game.

@cygnus Zero... Totally agree. If the game had Forza´s customization, then it would make sense. I don´t own Forza, but I do have NFS Undercover. And I did have alot of fun uploading pics from my unique cars.

Well yeah, I doubt ill really use it at all, but I just made this topic thinking maybe there might be something im overlooking about it.

I know its just another feature, I dont have to use it to enjoy the game, but like you said if its literally just taking pictures of cars that you know look like everyone elses, then Id personally rather that time be spent working on something else, but thats not important right now.

I see the appeal of taking pictures of things in the world, not digital cars, unless there is something unique about the cars im taking shots of. Like I said that was the only appeal of that mode in Forza. Without the paint jobs it served no purpose.

So I was unsure if there was some cool feature with this mode.

I can't wait to take some cool photos. I'm not a photographer, but it's fun playing with the options and setting up different types of shots, trying out new angles, locations, lighting, focus, shutter times etc. etc.

Well the Question is answered isn't it?

What's the difference between a snapshot of the Eiffel Tower and professional's Image of it? The Eiffel tower is the same, the skill of the photographer is not.

From what I've seen and read, the photographic functions in GT5 are very deep and that is where the creativity comes from.

Rotor.

Nail. On. Head. 👍

Crazy things happen during races. Being able to take snapshots of them is great fun. Imagine a great moment or manuver during a race or practice run, snapping shots from infinite angles and perspectives; opens a new world of story telling.

This mode in GT4, with its limited resolution, had a ceiling of what you could do. GT5 and its high resolution capabilities opens a new range of possibilities for artistic expression. Take a gander through the Photomode Competitions to see what great work some of the pro's on this forum are doing with GT4 and then let your imagination take you to what GT5 will allow.

Many of the most impressive fan shots from GT5P weren't even full shots of cars, they were closeups of things like wheels, tail lights ect. This is one of my favorites from the GT5P photo thread

I liked photomode in GT4... it was just a bit of fun when you felt like you needed a break from racing after 4 hours... xD

I think you are kind of missing the point. It's more about what people are able to do within the photomode that makes it special. It's sort of like pictures of mountains, there are thousands of the same mountain, but there aren't many that really stand out.

I used to be the same way, until I started looking at the photo galleries here, than I got inspired to try it myself and it's now one of the things I'm really looking towards. Now I'm planning on using it often in GT5 and having my own gallery.

It is basically a feature that best describes the monumental work that PD has produced!! Pure quality!!

Oh I like I said Im not completely writing it off, I need to just get into it and see what you can do. The shots during races was something that I didnt even think about for some reason, that's cool in case something crazy happens, thats the kind of thing I was looking for when I made this thread, reasons why it's actually fun to use. Not just some throw away mode that isnt useful. Shots during races is useful, you see a bug, some crazy wreck happens, someone runs you off the road....

The only trolls I'm seeing in this thread are both from Brazil. Knock it off guys. He's just asking a question.

Alright I feel a little better about it. After waiting so long you dont like that feeling you get when you suspect you might not like a certain aspect of it.

Only thing I really felt that with was photomode. I forgot you can use it during replays of races, so that right there is something id want to use. Probably not just putting cars in positions to take pretty shots, but if I can take shots of unique wrecks and whatnot then that's good enough for me.

Thanks fellas.

Eh it's alright. You cant compare features in games without some people getting upset I guess, but I couldnt really come up with a safer comparison. This mode is in both games, so I felt the need to bring the other one up, hoping people can be mature and handle a normal discussion. Some cant I guess.

I am sorry, I apologize for that. Not posting that kind of stuff anymore.

But one thing for sure he is not doing is just asking a question...Take a look at his posts and try to find one where he is not whining about GT5.

Im talking about a mode in a game. If you want to look at that as whining then that's your problem.

Im questioning the appeal and usefulness of a mode, we're allowed to do that here you know. Only one starting any trouble is you. Dont you find that weird?

I find the opposite.

No point in photomode in forza 3 because of the innacurate and ugly models.

That's what I'm thinking. I do photography myself on a small hobby level and the quality of GT photography just can't be beat for computer generated models. This along with my passion for cars is a perfect match. There is nothing better than taking photos of a car which at some point participated on the 24 hours of Nurburgring or LeMans and without much Photoshop enhancement (GT gives you the ability to edit photos) and can look at this for hours.

GT's attention to detail and perfection make it what it is. On the other hand the Forza photomode is as any other photomode to create screenshots of a video game as any other which does not appeal to me. Apart from that I just hate the ability to create tacky and fantasy-like custom liveries in Forza, while many will disagree with me there is no reality to that and I hope GT stays true to it's concept.
