What do you guys think about the new physics engine in GT4? To be honest, I don't really like it. It reminds me of the driving physics in auto modellista. There is something wrong, and it is way different from how GT3 used to be. When I am approaching a turn and braking. It feels like you are dropping in a downward motion like going down on a roller coaster. The cars turn crazy just as if they were F1 cars. Does anybody have the same problem?
 
i thought so at first, but now i think its more the camera. It doesnt swing as much like it did in GT3. Its snappier and stays locked on to the rear of the car a bit more. The other two views dont move at all (atleast i think not, i dont use them)

It's hard to say, ive never taken any of these cars and tried to stop in time for a turn from 100mph...

Its hard to say if we are judging reality... or previous physics...
 
I tried to post a thread over 2 days ago asking a similar question with a pole. I asked what people thought of the physics of certian cars compared to how they preform in real life.. (only comparing cars they've driven ingame and in RL. and post their rating from 1 to ten in a pole

No one's posted a pole asking yet so i thought that would be a good idea.

I thought it was a pretty good thread that would give an idea of how the average GTplanet member felt but i guess the reviewers thought itwas a waste of space...


How long ago did you send in this thread to get autorized/reviewed?
 
I wouldn't really know, but when you brake hard, shouldn't the front of your car sink a little? I think that's why they implemented that in GT4.

What do you mean they turn like F1 cars? I still kinda have trouble with my tires losing grip.

That sounds like a good idea for a thread. It must've fallen into the cracks. The mods aren't perfect, you know.

I love the physics, especially in high-end cars, like the Bently Speed 8. I get scared whenever I dirve it!

Yeah I actually wanna know this. I heard they had pro drivers test the game though, and their times were only off by a second or two.

I haven't driven any cars in the game, so I wouldn't know.

10 being next best thing to real life, 4 being NFSU2, 1 being Rrrrridge racer :)

I think it's pretty realistic... What you experience when you break is just nose dive, which happens in real cars when you hit the brakes too hard at high speed.

About handling like F1... You must have a hell of a suspension setup, I have trouble keeping grip.
 
I know they had Sebastien Loeb (Last years World rally champ) & Sebastien Bourdais (Last Years ChampCar Champ) among others test the game at last years race of champions & the feedback was very positive, Bourdais went on to say its about as realistic as you can get without driving the actual car, Loeb said something very similar, I have a DVD "making of GT4" that i got with GT4P & it shows them testing the real cars to get the data & I remember reading somewhere that most of the PD team have racing license's?
 
If you drive in real life you will notice that when you brake hard your car tilts forward causing your view to go down a little.

"Nose dive" as someone has said.

I did feel that the cars were kinda of easier to turn at first but now im cranking out 350+HP and its not so easy any more :P
 
The nose dive from incar view is exaggerated to give a bigger sense of the forces involved.

Oh, and it's spelt poll, not pole.
 
I've been fairly happy with the physics in GT4. They seem more realistic than GT3. You can actually spin cars out easier and cars are more unsettled by bumps and changes in traction from pavement to grass, although I still wish they would punish you more for going off track.
 
Any of you use active steering and power steering? I seem to have a problem doing burn outs. I have a car with over 270hp and I can't do a proper burn out :(

yeah this approval thing is some bull ****, it needs to go. i see plenty of threads showing up that are less useful than mine that don't make it.

I dont use active steering because it keeps you from oversteering and understeering i think. I have power steering on. I'll never forget how pissed off Grunholm (dunno how to spell his name :( ) was so pissed off when his rally car had no power steering. :)
 
At first, I didn't like it but now I really like it, it's pretty damn real. I just needed to realize that in everyday driving I go at average of 50 and 20-30 to make a turn, in the game however its 120 average and about 60 or so to make a turn. So, you just need time to adjust to it, I'd give it a 9.
 
the physics are great unless you start to slide...

the countersteering is WAY too abrupt and why the hell cant we do donuts?

not sure if its all cars but coffee break #4 sucks because low speed steering is amazingly slow to react. UGH! :crazy:

on a good note, throttle control is a much bigger part of driving than it was for me in gt3. i like that. ok, not much else from me. quit reading this and go play :dopey:
 
Excellent Phsyics....best car simulation ever in the history of video games.
I drive a M3 as a daily driver and the M3 i tested was pretty accurate except it's got alittle more grip in the game.
And also I think all cars in GT4 (game) has better grip than the real deal.

I love the new physics. It requires a lot more skill than the GT3 physics. Gone are the good old days of flooring it through every corner. GT4 is becoming more enjoyable now that I'm getting used to it.
 
Overall it's great, although the no brake lock up is annoying, as is the fact that a lot of the cars have too much grip when putting full power out of a corner (even on N1s)
 
I just have played the BMW demo (and Prologue), new physics will take a time to get used to it, but I think there's a big improvement from GT3, now you have to think a lot more, less arcade, more realistic, perfect for me!

Some cars i've seen powerslide quite well in real life just dont slide the same way ingame. like the Evo VIII MR GSR handles like it has all assissts on with them all off. I've seen it drift no problem in Best motoring videos... same thing with some other cars also. they just feel too grippy even with the worst tires, then the breaking feels too weak with N1 tires, But the breaks dont lock up at all with N2s like they should... but still great game.
I guess we've just been spoiled by all the other sims that have come out since gt4
(Live For Speed, Richard Burns Rally, GTr, Real life :dopey: ) I'd never driven a car when gt3 1st came out, but now I have in the past few years so now thats raised my expectations even more.


GT4's still an awsome game. :) I hope they go all out with the physics in GT5.

Don't forget that's what PD is targeting for their market sales. For the hardcore simulation fans might be a let-down but remember we are the minority.
I have a friend who hated GT-series for one reason, it's impossible to even pass the A license. To him Ridge Racer is the best racing game, and..obvously I can see why...lol. 👎
 
Your right.. :)

I just have to look elsewhere like the rest of the small hardcore sim fan community. LFS, GTR, etc... But i want a hardcore sim with gt4.s car and track list. but i guess thats not possible because thats not what most of GT4's fans want. Like i've said before people are already finding these physics difficult and many ps2 owners were turned off by how "hard" they thought gt3 was.
 
For those hardcore simulation racers can try this game out, i've been playing it for the past two years with updated patch and updated seasons.
F1 Career Challenge ! Best simulator :D

I didn't like the physics that much at first with the dual shock 2, but I understand a whole lot more once i got a DFP. Braking and turning are totally perfect with the DFP and it seems like it was really meant to be played with it instead of using the DS2. It's tougher to use the analog breaking on the DS2 compared to DFP, well i find that is.

lol This is totally true. Most of my friends were turned off by how hard GT was and never gave it a second chance. When GT3 came out I kept bugging my friend to buy it and he just refused to even look at the cover of the game. I was going over to his house one day and he had rented it for my pleasure, so of course he didn't play it until I got there. He thought that the graphics were so awesome that he went out and bought it the next day.

Now it just sits on his shelf because he never really got used to the physics. Plus, I don't think it boosted his morale when I owned him on every track either. :sly: :sly: Nowadays we just play Madden all day, seeing as how we are a little more equal in skill in this game.


P.S. PD should think about making a special version or edition of GT for the more avid racers that follow this game.
 
The only thing I don't like is that there seems to be no compression braking when you let off the throttle for a turn. I constantly have to brake in the corner to avoid sliding off the track. Do these cars have a slipper clutch or something? It makes driving a lot harder in my opinion.
 
I personally love the physics, it's far more realistic than GT3. You can feel the effects of tuning much better, and I love the way the Ford GT snaps out of it's power turns. Unfortunately I think that's why alot of people complain. Driving a car is harder than playing an arcade game, alot harder. Therefor if GT4 is going to be more realistic, it's obviously going to be harder to learn. I say, if you don't like it, go play Simpsons Road Rage
