Physics

I don't think there's a huge difference between the physics in this game and the physics in GT3. The big differences are in road texture (La Sarthe is insane!), wind resistance, and much more pronounced elevation changes. You get some insane speed going downhill Costa Di Amalfi, and in Fuji '05 the final turn is almost like the Laguna Seca corkscrew in reverse, and it's a total mofo. Oh and the sensation of speed is like eleventy billion times better than it has ever been in this series.

I personally love the physics, it's far more realistic than GT3. You can feel the effects of tuning much better, and I love the way the Ford GT snaps out of it's power turns. Unfortunately I think that's why alot of people complain. Driving a car is harder than playing an arcade game, alot harder. Therefor if GT4 is going to be more realistic, it's obviously going to be harder to learn. I say, if you don't like it, go play Simpsons Road Rage

You have a point there, but I have a question. The way how the cars handle in GT4. Is that the actual feel if we were to drive them in real-life? :scared: If so, I guess in reality it requires a lot more skill even if you are just preparing for the simple turns ahead.

in real life its harder, and more fun. there's still too much grip. MR cars are supposed to be tricky to drift but they are actually easier than most FR cars in GT4. I havent tested if DIU is in the game at all, i'll do that later today. :) there's more understeer, less oversteer, but i dunno about DIU.

For those hardcore simulation racers can try this game out, i've been playing it for the past two years with updated patch and updated seasons.
F1 Career Challenge ! Best simulator :D

PS: For PC ONLY !!

This deserves a definite BUMP!!! I've been playing EA's F1 series for the PC since the 2000 version. I never got around to getting the Career Challenge version but I stayed with F1 2002. There are all sorts of mods on the net for these games and I got F1, LMP, GT, JGTC, M3 Challenge, Modena Challenge, European Enduro series, you name it and I got the mods installed for F1 2002. I get all those great series with what is arguable the best physics of any sim that you can buy out there, be it for consoles or PCs. I play it with my Driving Force wheel and a set of ACT Labs pedals (wich clutch) and the ACT Labs gated shifter wich both work to their full potential in this game, the clutch is analgo and the shifter is natively supported by EA's F1 2002 engine. Heck I bought the wheel primarly for this game rather than GT3 backin the day and its now broken and collecting dust. I'll soon be getting a DFP and use it in 900degree mode in F1 2002 and take that realism to the next level!!! 👍

GT4 is ALMOST up to par with F1 2002's physics engine in realism. Its has more grip to make it easier for the average joe to jump in and drive the game though, wich is understandable for the console market; whereas F1 2002's physics engine without ANY assits turned on (and there are about 10 assists available, anything from anti-lock brakes and traction control to clutch assistance and braking point assistance) takes a few hours of practice to get a good lap down without spinning out. Tons of fun and very nerve racking when racing a full grid of 31 GT cars without assists in Susuka for the 100% length of the real race, wich would be about 51 laps. :dopey: F1 2002 FOR EVA!!!

Ok back to GT4 sorry for the rant but I had to give props to this amaizing sim.

EDIT: Forgot to mention F1 2002's setup garage has about 3 times as many configurable things as GT4.

Bigass trackday mod for the next ISI sim (R-factor). It's going to include over 100 real cars, with damage and realistic physics. Upgrades will be available for all cars, including some engine swaps.

Online racing, great physics, brilliant graphics (not quite GT4 beautiful, but it has dynamic lighting and weather effects), and the option of adding more cars as they are made.

Still, GT4 will be a benchmark of sorts.

Sorry to get a bit off-topic mods but if anyone here has a PC and wants the best GT racing sim out there wait a few months for SimBin's GTR game. They did the GTR2002 mod for F1 2002 a few years back and I still play it to this day. They had such good production values on the mod that they got signed with a big game company and given a big fat check to make a full blown game. Its about to come out in a few months and the demo came out a month or two ago and its FANTASTIC!!!!

I can't wait for that game to come out!!!

Ok my next posts will be OT I promise... :dunce:

EDIT: After sifting through the GTR forums I found out its being released all over Europe in March. The US release date is not finalized yet but the developers said its in LATE Q1 of 2005 so that should make it late March/early April? I sure hope so, I've been waiting for this game since forever.

The only thing I don't like is that there seems to be no compression braking when you let off the throttle for a turn. I constantly have to brake in the corner to avoid sliding off the track. Do these cars have a slipper clutch or something? It makes driving a lot harder in my opinion.

Go drive a RUF BTR 86' on the ring.. and then tell me that car doesnt have throttle lift oversteer.. i find that its doing a damn good job as far as compression braking goes.

That can be one of two things, either there IS some compression braking or you have your LSD tuned incorrectly. Go drive that car again in the ring but raise your LSD's decel value.

In my opinion there is some sort of compression braking, just not much of it, you can down shift and brake with the engine but not to much. Seems fine to me though.

I have not noticed compression braking to be as reallistic as in real life, but it is somewhat present. The physics are extremely good in a certain aspect, such as lift during high speeds, and mid-corner braking, but better throttle braking would make corners easier, maybe this is the reason for the traction seeming over done, to make up for the lack of this. i dunno?? I was expecting a little more, but it is still a very good game. They should make it harder, if you want an easier game, go get Need for speed crap or some other lil' john listening, car waxing, neon wearing rice boy games that exist. Leave GT4 for racers.

As a note NISMO used this engine to test their body kits effeciency, due to the fact that it was more accurate than their computer models, suposedly???

i actually think the driving physics are very realistic. turning is more difficult, and more true to life. driving with the aids off also adds to the realism. the only thing i think is unrealistic is the tire wear and the rate that your gas runs out. other than that, i really cant find anything wrong with the game.

Does the renault clio sport or peugeot gti's have lift oversteer? They're masters of it. :p
Has anybodyelse notice when the cars turn they seem as if the back wheel is turning also. Its as if the car have 4 wheel steering. Anybodys notice this?

Did u find the brakes locking up when u slammed on them. Thats not a problem based on ones perspective, but it is an inaccuracy.Real brakes lock up when slammed too hard even ABS brakes lock up technically.

I did this in arcade mode since i dont have enough money to buy a RUF BTR yet.. so i couldnt do anything about the LSD.. But that is something to think about when i do buy it as its VERY hard to drive.. but i have managed to drift it through a few consecutive corners and kind of thought to myself .. "maybe this is how you are supposed to drive this beast? " ... I think its all in the timing.

Although there are a lot of nice additions to the game's physics engine, what's with the E Brake? I drive my s14 at 10 miles an hour and hold to ebrake and i'll be lucky if i make a 90 degree turn before i come to a dead stop. Then i tried it at 30mph and same results!?!? What's with the EBRAKE and what's with Counter-steering??? You countersteer and your car immediately darts in the direction of the tires :(

i enjoy the counter-steer hell this wasnt even in gt3 atleast i didnt notice it 💡 the car tends to do what you describe when you steer to much into it, i find correcting the counter-steer kinda comes kinda naturally?

Counter-steering and weight transfer were my main beefs. I try to drift some of my cars, (especially the D1 RX-7, completely stock) and I go to counter steer, it over reacts and WHAP! Around she goes. :irked: I lost many races due to this...

Just a question, but is the 1962 Buick really that good?

Just a question
Oh yes, It's THAT good! I tried it out last night, and I was shocked at the handling on that thing and I haven't even bought a suspension upgrade yet! Stock at 558hp and with a supercharger 813hp! whoohoo! And only $58,000...
