Okay, so, if I can only grow 1 Pineapple out of a Pineapple stem, how the hell did there get to be so many Pineapples? Shouldn't there only be 1 pineapple in the world because of this? It's like the Dalai Lama of fruit.

Immaculate Conception!

Edit: Here you go:

"Three parts of the pineapple can be planted: the tops (the crown and leaves); the slips (offsets that grow from the stem); and suckers (offsets that grow from the base of the plant).

Every plant produces suckers and these eventually produce a second or ratoon crop. The first and second crops, each of which take 22-24 months to mature, usually produce the commercial yield of a plant."

Don't pineapples grow on trees? Trees would make make more than one pineapple.

Nope.

Each one of those is a single pineapple.

When I was a kid, our family grew a pineapple. We did the 'chop the top off' thing. It took forever. Like three years, or so. Finally, when it did grow a fruit, it was about the size of a closed fist. A tiny bite is all I got, and it was kind of hard, but good.

If you do try it yourself, realize the plants can get HUGE!

Totally not worth it. Now you know why pineapples cost so much. Canned pineapple rings are so much easier.

So it sits on top of the main plant and has its own spikey green leaves. That photo of the pineapple fields must have the plants with no fruit or very young fruit then.

Our plant grew four feet high and wide before it grew a fruit. Like I said, HUGE!

well, it's like coconuts then.... I hear they grow for about 25 years before producing the first coconut

Indeed... it's all well and good saying that you can grow pineapples from three different bits of the pineapple, but where then did the first pineapple come from, eh? Surely you can see from the ingenious, nay, "intelligent" design of the pineapple that it was clearly made for human consumption? Why, the skin is so easy to peel and it fits right into a pair of cupped human hands! What's more, if you slice it, and 'core' it, the resulting rings fit perfectly into cylindrical tins and will also fit neatly onto the average gammon steak - now if that's not evidence of intelligent design, I don't know what is...!? In the words of Ron and Russell Mael, "Pineapple fulfils every need!"

Atheist's Nightmare II

This is pretty interesting, I had no idea how pineapples grew and how long they took. Ill never look at one in the same way again

Im guessing thats because farmers pump the ground with all these artificial nutrients and fertilizers and you grew your's naturally?

Easier to grow? ;)

Canned pineapple doesn't taste anything like real pineapple, at least not over here.

I'll agree with that. Fresh pineapple is better.

Maybe, I don't know. But wild pineapples are smaller, too.

Pineapples are also totally Fibonacci.

I make teh guud threads.
