Play with HDLoader

In the US, Blockbuster has a deal this summer. You can buy a $49 prepaid card and you can rent unlimited games for three months.

Are you following me yet? :sly:

Rent the games you want and copy them over to your HDD via HD Loader and return your rented games.

Get several games for the price of one. It definitely beats buying one full priced $50 game you end up not liking. *ahemdriver3ahem*

Cool!

I just found a PS2 Hard Drive Compatability Chart and it shows a few 160 GB Maxtors that fit AND work properly. I assume you can trust it if 3 people say it works. Some whacko's even got a 300 GB Maxtor working. That's a bit overkill, but sounds awesome.

Am I better off getting a HDD with 8 MB of buffer, or does it not make much difference? I don't have much experience with buying, installing, or messing around with computer hardware.

Hmm my 40gb maxtor still dinnae format. :grumpy:

Holy ****, I'm planning on spending ton's less than you. Find a HDD on rebate, buying a Network from a friend for $20 or so, and the HDLoader software on eBay.
Can you find a 120 GB HDD for less than 85 bucks? I couldn't.

I'd rather buy new products, that I know will work than save a few bucks on used stuff.

I wasn't planning on going that big. I was thinking a 40 gig would be good enough for me. There's really only 5 games out there I want and most games don't take the full 4 gigs that the disk they come on holds. The network adapter I was going to buy is brand new. My friend took it off his PS2 when he got it and put in a box wrapped. And the software I would've of bought new too. But you probably play games more than me. And you also have funds for this stuff.

Well, I can use this 120 GB drive in my computer when I've lost interest in my PS2. How much did you pay for a 40 GB drive?

I was going to buy a third-party PS2 network adapter for 24 bucks, but third-party stuff is horrible for the most part.

I was just looking on eBay and it doesn't look like you're going to save more than a couple bucks on the HDLoader. I also just saw a brand new network adapter for 20 bucks on eBay. I'm sure that price will increase in the last few minutes of the auction, though.

you should be able to. You'll most likely just have to format it to NTFS or Fat32

3rd party network adapters won't work for the HDLoader anyways. The reason being that most of the 3rd party adapters use the ps2's USB ports. You need to use the Sony one because the connectors for the hard drive are on there

Ok i've gathered all my random HDD's from 20gb's to err 30, gb's.

If any of these work i'll be happy, or even manage to format. :grumpy:

Still haven't had a single problem with it (and it has been thoroughly tested!).

It is great for lazy people like me. I have always noticed that I used to play PC games a lot more if you never had to change CDs/ put in the CD :)
Now this also applies to playing ps2 games 👍

Too bad Western Digital drives do not work with HD Loader nor do they fit with the Network Adapter...

Hows it working out for all of u that have this? i wanted to get it for the summer to use that blockbuster deal but i wanted to see how many games would be compatible to copy to the HD use the HDloader

Wow, this looks uber cool...shame it doesn't work with many games though...

On the contrary, it will work with the vast majority of games. Right now we have around 16 games on the hard drive and it hasn't refused to copy any game so far.

I think it's not working for me because it only works with the US adapter, that has modem and ethernet connections. :grumpy:

neg. I'm from Europe and I know several people who have tried it (sucessfully) here.

Here's the only question that matters:

Would my hacked version of Winning Eleven 7 work with this? By hacked, I mean just that, hacked, not cracked. We OWN Winning Eleven 7, but there is a patch to let you play with custom unis and new chants for the stadiums. From what I read on their site, you need to use a swap disk to get it to work, but if this thing can work instead of a swap disk, hey, all the better!

ummm i'm really really sorry to sound like a n00b, but is there a version of HD Loader that is PAL compatible?? Thanx
(plz don't flame me)

Like I asked earlier, can you install games from burnt dvd's? My patched WE7 would be supercool to play on the PS2 if I didn't have to use a swap disk or a mod chip!

Nope, you still need a mod chip (or a swap disk?) in order to be able to read/play games from burnt dvd's.

I guess that reading the game from the HDD is exactly the same as reading it from the disc.

That is some sad news ! Didn't know about it, had to look some stuff up :

"After speaking with a reliable source, it is indeed true that Sony is issuing Cease & Desist letters to vendors selling the HD Loader. At least 2 Vendors have been issued the letter and promptly removed their goods from their sites and/or shutdown operations. A copy of the C&D letter could not be obtained, due to the current litigations that person is facing and fear of it causing more damage to their individual case.

The crackdown was mostly due to the release of the HD Loader and its ability to circumvent the standard copy-protection of PS2 Games and allowing users to copy their games, without owning a legal copy of the game, onto the official Sony HDD or User-installed Hard Drives connected to the Sony Network Adapter."

I just ordered...hopefully I'll get it

I hope that you still get yours. Where did you order it? If it is from an independant site then there might still be some hope. Who knows.

So glad that we got ours just a few weeks before it became "illegal".

I ordered it thru consolesource which was directly from hdloader's site. Im in the process of trying the hdloader hack though. Hopefully that'll work and I won't need the CD.
