Woah woah woah...

So i get myself a Network Adapter, a HD, and the HDLoader and im set?
What about for PAL PS2's? (the link earlier shown is dead now).
What about this HDLoader i found on Suprnova.org?
Can i just burn it onto a CD and use it?
If HD Loader has been illegalised where is it available (for a PAL PS2).

Sorry for all the questions.

EDIT- What about Ethernet VS Ethernet/Modem Adapters?

Has to be ethernet/modem. They have or had a PAL version...and I don't think you can just burn it but there is a hack out there. It's a lil complicated and u have to get the swap discs and either a flip top cover or slide card...or chip ur ps2.

Ouch... what a blow to my plans.

So basicaly not realy worth persuing. I would need a method of playing copied games anyway before i could use the HDLoader.

I like the girl in ur avatar Pistachio ;)

Does anybody know if you can save your games to it? Or at least transfer them as backups? I hate memory cards. :grumpy: I just ordered mine for 45 w/shipping. Good deal. :)

It doesn't do that. The only thing that I can place on there is a full PS2 game.

Although that would be a great feature, maybe something for a future version..

Are there any other products I could buy that transfer them/save them? I don't wanna pay another 40 for the same product w/1 more feature.

What's the best place to buy it?

Get it now. Once they're gone, they're gone for good.

Ok, so let me get this straight.

PS2
PS2 Network adaptor
Maxtor 120GB HDD
HDLoader Disk

Is there anything else I need? Like a flip top PS2? Or something?

To add a game to the HDD I load the HDLoader disk, then take it out and put in the game disk ... there are some options to copy ... something like that? To play games just load the HDLoader disk which gives me a menu to select games to play? Kind of like having VirtualCD in Windows?

yup, that's about it. Pop the hdloader into the ps2 and follow the instructions. There's no swapping required aside from when you're ripping the game

Sweet mother of pearl. And what does Sony think of this? What about game manufacturers? This could kill the PS2 industry. The game manufacturers won't be likely to jump on the PS3 boat either.

%@#$ it, I'm getting one.

well, Sony put lawsuits against HDLoader already. Either way, the HDLoader doesn't let you take ripped games online and I don't think it rips copied games unless you have an installed mod chip

Yeah, but that doesn't keep me from sharing games with friends. I wonder about the online play issue though. How much does it matter anyway, are there any good online PS2 games? (:

I've just ordered ... ahem ... eleven copies for friends to get the reduced price. I hope it's all it's cracked up to be.

A new HD tool has been released. It's called HD Advance. I'm sure if you do a google search, you'll be able to find some info on it.

I got hold of HD advance, oddly it worked first time.

It's so awesome, having the games load so quickly. Although the HDD led seems to be located inside the unit, giving out this red glow so it always looks like it's just about to burst into flames. :odd:

I have the PS2 Linux kit and experienced the same thing while I was messing with it (:

I haven't gotten my shipment yet, but I haven't gotten an "out of stock" notice yet either. Has anyone else that ordered HDLoader late gotten their copy?

Just get HD Advance, which to be honest looks like a complete copy of HDD loader from the screenshots i've seen. Unless you've already ordered like eleventy billion copies already.

I don't think GT4 will work on HDD loader/advance though, they both don't have DVD-9 or dual layer capability.

That's a good point. Though I haven't had load issues with GT3 as much as I have with some older games like Ico or Oni. Oni was bad ... oh my gosh ... and if you died in a level it had to reload the whole thing from the disk, LAME.

Some games it does really make a difference. I ripped Kaido battle and everything loads in seconds instead of minutes. GT4 Prologue load times are marginally quicker, although you only notice it when the race finishes and then it instantly pops up with the replay. Only gripes I have with it is that the PS2 rips the discs so damn slowly (but that's the old drive unit at fault) and i'd love it to be able to rip PSone games.

I noticed this too. I almost **** my pants when I saw my PS2 spitting fire.

Madden 2005 works with Mode 3 enabled. But you can't play online with HDLoader, so that takes away all of the fun.

How do you get Mode 3?

I do believe I have found a way to transfer backup games and DVD-9 games to the HDD.

What you need.
  • PS2 with HDLoader and the HDD.
  • PC with a DVD-Rom drive.
  • Someway to connect your PS2 HDD to your PC.

Download this program here. It's titled attachment 1 in the 1st post.

Read all of the stuff on this site and you should get a good idea.

When the game's installed, you just put it back in your PS2 and load up HDLoader.
I have yet to try it, so maybe some else can give her a go.

Winhiip is much better.
Then download DVDDecrypter and rip the game to an iso file.
I've now got hold of an 80gb drive and i'm gonna use this to transfer the games off my other hdd, well if I can be bothered to open my pc up. Although to be honest all I need to do is move my pc slightly and slide the panel. But then i'm incredibly lazy.

I'll try and rip my Xenosaga and my GTC which are DVD9 apparently.

To be honest, this could lead to unscrupulous things like downloading a game and transfering it straight to the HDD from the downloaded iso file. But not me, all my games are legitimately purchased.

Oh bloody hell it takes so long to transfer an 8gb image, even onto my sata drive. :grumpy:

Edit: 77% done, come on.

*Jumps up and down*

Edit: Yay, now the iso file has to be transfered to the ps2 hdd via Winhiip. :bastige:
