Yeah, it was about one week. I got my tracking number the day after I purchased HDL.

Oh God, the horror!

GoldenEye: Rogue Agent does not work.

I tried all modes and combinations, none succeeded.

Did you try copying it onto the harddrive using your PC and WinHIIP or DumB?

No, I just tried using the PS2's drive. It's not a very good game anyway, no where near the original.

I got a hold of a Japanese GT4 demo disc and used WinHIIP to copy it over. Very easy and faster than the PS2 drive.

I'm sure either Sony or a third-party developer will come out with an external USB HDD in the near future, I can't see them NOT going that route...

There are currently USB hard drives. They did not work with the original PS2 so I assume they will not work with the new one. Perhaps someone can do a little Google research for us?

Yep, oh I know they are nothing new, I just meant that I'm sure someone will develop one that will work on the new PS2 through the USB port (I don't see why they couldn't, the X-Port system has a CD which tells the PS2 to send data to and from the USB port, so it wouldn't be that much different for an external HDD).

If anyone is looking for a HDD, Best Buy has the Maxtor 120GB drive (LO1P120) on sale. I have this drive and it's excellent.

It's $98.99 and there is a $50 rebate which makes it $48.99 + shipping. Very good deal.

I'm going to get that at the store. I will put that in my computer and use my older Seagate for the PS2. If the Seagate doesn't work, then I have a back-up .

Alright, I'm done.

HD Loader - $33
Network Adapter - $16.99 with $25 promo code
new Hard Drive for PC - $108.99 (- $50 rebate)

My computer loads pretty quickly now during start-up.

Since this is one way of dealing with the import/region issue for GT4, I'd like to point out you need to do something special to get DVD9 games onto hdd. I'm sure someone knows, and if so, please post links or info here. ;) (I haven't gone there yet, but if swapmagic doesn't work for GT4, I'll need something ... )

Well I assume for those that are interested in GT4 on the HDD and those that are currently downloading their "backup" copy, the current download is probably already in a single iso format. If that is the case, the DVD9 iso has already been flattened and so will easily install on the HDD. One issue is whether or not this will need to be patched.

On the other hand if you are ripping the image off the DVD9 original, you will get two .iso images. What you want to do is open up the images and save the contents of both files into the same folder. The order in which you save the files is not important because if you are reading the information off of a HD, the HD will read it in the right order. If you are re-burning it, it would matter. Afterward, create a single .iso with two images.

The simplest way to do this would be to have the three programs: DVD decrypter, iml2iso, and apache. Find those programs and you'll be all fine. If you want those programs, I could upload them, but I need the admin to allow me to. Anyways, good luck. These programs are easy to get on the net.

Lastly, if anyone has finished their DL and has installed the game onto a harddrive via HD loader/advance, let us know the results, what exactly you did, and if you went through each and every possible mode and its combination.

Well Ziggy, I ordered a copy at playasia: in a few days we'll know if winhiip is able to copy the original DVD in the HD. I really hope so

apache?? like the server program?

Is there anywhere here or some other place that gives a guide how to load the game onto the harddrive via PC? I'm new to this whole HDLoader thing...

I have "that" archive, and inside there is one file , one .iso.... but i haven't tested it yet ...only later in the evening when i get back home.

I have a laptop, so I have not had the chance to see what format HDAdvance stores the games in on the HDD used in my PS2. Are the games just copied to the HDD into a folder, or does HDAdvance create an .iso?
So, if I hooked up the HDD in the PS2 to a PC, and ripped GT4 to the HDD, it would create two .iso files, as you say. Then, in order to get them to boot in HDAdvance, would I simply dump the contents of both ripped images into a folder, or would I create a new single .iso? (if so, how would I go about doing this, would I use the folder I created, or somehow use both of the .iso files?)
You also mention patching, what does this involve?

No, Not with HdLoader/HDAdvance to the PS/2's HD, But you can transfer your saves to your PC's HD using X/P or Shark/P!
Yep, I actually have both the X-Port and the Max Drive, lol. I just always see people mentioning how they will transfer their saves to the HDD, and I always wonder how they do so.

Just incase anyone is wondering, it takes a LONG FREAKING TIME to copy over 100GB of data from one drive to another using WinHIIP. I'm talking multiple hours. But it's worth it (:

Yeah I can imagine, took me a good 8 hours (did it before going to work one day) to copy data from my old PC to my new laptop last summer 👎

early days yet, but a program called 'mcmanager' for PS2 will let you copy savegames from your memory cards to a savegame partition (that it can create for you) on your HDD.

I assume you have to boot the PS2 with the "mcmanager" disk? How do you get your saves from the hard drive to something else? Can it move them across the network? What about saving files during game play? Can the hdd be accessed as if it were a memory card during a game?
