Players need to start being permanently banned.

I hate to say it and it might sound extremely harsh. But this game is at a point we’re if it want to be taken seriously as a racing simulator they need to start clamping down on dirty driving. Not the one off race we’re an accident turns into a scrap, I talking the purposeful holding players up and brake checking to force penalties. This is a MASSIVE issue. They need a system to email a report with an attachment option to submit clips and start imposing minimum 2week bans on players. And if they are reported more than 3 times on three separate occasions then it’s a permanent ban on their account and IP. Enough is enough. Other sims have a system to remove these players I think it’s about time GT did also.

If people just intent to be annoying as possible, a playerban will not be enough to stop this.
Why?
Because you could have unlimited player accounts to continue the harrasment.

IP bans also do not work - for more than one reason.

Don’t have a solution then or just more problems? How about everyone on this forum start a petition on here to get GT to make some changes. I proposed a solution that even though you say it won’t work it will definitely be a deterrent if it happens even if it doesn’t completely stop it, it will have an effect.
 
I think they should set up a system where each collision is registered and stored in a database. Each week they can sort the data by players with most collisions registered and flag those players so that their telemetry is recorded. If the telemetry indicates dirty driving, send them a temporary ban and a warning.

That way they should be able to identify the players who causes the most problems. Serial offenders could be permanently banned from Sport Mode. And if they keep making new accounts then send them a warning that their console may be permanently banned from online play (if technically possible, but I assume that it is).
 
I wouldn't trust a game whose penalty system leads to players who have been contacted getting the contact penalties as well implementing a ban system for the same behaviour.
 
They (PD) don't care. There were people cheating in the official GTWS season and they were given a 5 day ban. There has been  some action taken when top split races in official seasons have been affected but if it's outside of that, PD have demonstrated they don't care what people do.

Doesnt it already try to do that but still give victims of contacts, penalties thinking they caused it?

The race today was an A and A+ lobby. Just Hours before an official GTWS qualifying race. This player was deliberately brake checking everyone and keeping himself in 2nd place and causing everyone to bank up and receive collision penalties. They appeared to be deliberately doing this to let there friend get the win and boost there DR for the GTWS race. And forced all others that would have been contenders in the race getting practice and building there Dr to get higher points lobbies to have there DR lowered. I made contact with them 3 times over two races today that resulted in a 2 and 4sec penalty, this caused my DR to go from A+ to the bottom of B. This player and there friend were doing this same thing for the last 3 days. Something needs to be done.

I completely understand all that and it's sad that people do that. In reality though if someone needs to chest to improve their DR then they're not going to be any good in those higher split lobbies.

Is that nothing will be done. PD don't care about what you're describing. They gave a couple of 5 day bans to blatant cheating and manipulating of points in the top split. They're not permanently banning anyone.

It won't work.

There are various infamous racers that have appeared in countless YouTube videos, that have been reported by World Tour racers (that have contact details for PD) and been banned for a term, and do you know what those dirty drivers do next?

They create a new account, which is free, and they continue their havoc until their main account ban runs out or they just continue on the new account.

Now you could go nuclear and ban the console, but that isn't something PD have the power to do, as console bans remove access to the PSN completely, and Sony won't do that over someone's dirty driving in GT7.

*The only recorded instances of dirty drivers cleaning up their acts, that I know of, have actually come after numerous famous YouTubers have reached out to them to discuss their driving, why they do it and the impact it has on others. There is one French driver that comes to mind that used to be on a lot of videos, driving dirty, that has been relatively clean for a few years now.

It's entirely possible. If your SR drops too many grades below your DR, you instantly have your DR reset to the start of a lower grade.

Though, unlike in Sport, it seems that you just need to raise your SR again to get your DR rank back.

I just found out first hand. So yes it is. Add someone constantly brake checking you mid corner running you wide, being sent to the back because you have spun out from being run wide track limit penalties throughout 10laps and vs predominantly low A ranked player that you get beaten by in the end when you started in 2nd or 3rd. Yer you loose big chunks of DR in those races.

The game probably does some kind of check to determine who is at fault, but it's clearly not looking for dirty driving behaviour. And anyway, that's still not what I proposed. I proposed to register all collisions for some period if time, sort players by most detected collisions and then check the telemetry of the players at the top of the list for indicators of dirty driving. That telemetry analysis could easily be done manually.
 
If PD ban a player permanently, there's a chance they were a whale and then PD won't get their money anymore.

You'd need to lose 40,000 DR in those two races to go from anywhere in A+ to the bottom of B, and given the points exchanges required it's highly improbable. Edit: And in just A/A+ lobbies, impossible. At lowish-A+ the most you could lose to any one driver at bottom A is ~150, or 2,250 total per race.

As you note that it's the bottom of B, it's more likely that the contact/off-track incidents have dropped your SR to B, which will - as noted above - drop your DR to the exact bottom of B due to a display error, wherein a higher amount of points than is appropriate to a DR band being capped/reset by SR results in the right letter being displayed but at 0% of the bar.

If you get your SR back up you should regain the original rank.

I’m more than willing to to show the before and after of each race as I saved the replays. This game does a lot of impossible things. Iv seen a player loose Dr in a non effected DR race I think we have all seen penalties given for zero contact. I stated the first race as A+ S the second race I was A and demoted to B which shocked the hell out of me given what had happened during the race and how absolutely non of it was actually my fault. After the second race which was by far the worst I joined the next and was a B-C. this actually happened it’s not an overextended story this is what happened I’m 36yrs old not 16.

Yes, this is literally what I'm saying, and you just quoted me as saying.

Your DR was reset to a lower rank because your SR fell to a lower rank, rather than through loss of DR points.

This is possible through two different methods. The first is the exact same thing I just described, wherein SR falling resets the DR, and the second is rating update lag caused by a player quitting a C race, joining an A before the previous C one ends, and then having their ratings updated by the results of both races at the end of the race.
 
Thanks however I think this is all going a little off track no pun intended. There still needs to be a reporting system implemented in this game. Forms of cheating however it may be depicted is on the rise. Dirty tactics and manipulating the game’s flawed penalty system is getting out of hand. Something has to be done about it. It’s gone on for far too long. I’m sure if the people that make this game are skilled enough to simulate a cars behaviour based on multiple factors, they are able to come up with a solution for this.

While I would fundamentally agree let’s be really honest about the universe we are in.

There are on average about 250k at the very very top end doing dailies or TT on a given day (it’s a little different for TTs)

So let’s say 250k do maybe 4 races a day? That’s 1m potential race reports to analyse at the brutal end of things. It’s just not scalable or realistic per day.

I think that penalties mask the bigger problems quite honestly, they allow people to factor mistakes in rather than be more brutal.

I don’t think what you want is available in any game at this scale

They don’t. It’s a lie. cod isn’t any better, GTA isn’t any better.

AC isn’t any better (and why it has separate leagues) iRacing isn’t any better.

The difference is fundamentally 2 fold. You can buy or download GT today, crack on and be racing with humans after an hour or so.

There are other games that have a much higher skill ceiling (GTA excluded)

It’s just as bad in FIFA as well.

People will just be dicks, kids will be kids and they are fast as f… as well.
 
Fortnite. Iv had multiple people banned for cheating and it takes them roughly a few days to sort it out. Now that game has millions of daily players. It can be done. If you’re not lazy.

While iRacing doesn't have a robust active penalty system, it does at least have one of the things that a lot of people ask for (in a roundabout way) - a steward system where you can submit an incident for review if you think a penalty is required.

...but you also have to pay a monthly subscription to play iRacing, which I can't see anyone wanting to pay to play GT7 online.

What happens in GT7 is more akin to griefing, and while that absolutely is against PlayStation Network's Code of Conduct it seems that they do not think you should be able to report people for it in GT7. Or at all; there isn't actually a way to submit a grief report to PSN, despite specifically referring to it as such in the COC, and only submitted content or chat/voice chat messages can be reported.

Why that should be is... a matter for them, really. And that's also your starting point for any attempt to change it. The matter is not in Polyphony Digital's hands.
