well, I used to play more than that on GT5 when it was first out and so far it's coping well.

been running GT5 everynight for Bspec and doesn't bother it. Aslong as you look after it properly then you're fine. Keep away from inclosed spaces and let it have plenty air. Don't just switch it off at the back switch, hold the power button on the front of the PS3 untill it beeps. Also, opening it up and giving it a good clean out is highly advisable. (If you have warranty this WILL make it void).

Just make sure to take care of it (remove the dust and keep it in a well ventilated area) and it should be fine.

OF all my friends I only know one who got a YLOD and its because his brother doesn't take care of it. AKA, he lets it run for over 24 hours in a row, in an enclosed space full of dust.

Depends on what kind of environment your PS3 is located. We still have 1st generation (fat) PS3 that's playing almost everyday! ... and slim ones too. Suggestion: clean & good air circulation on PS3 will make it last long.

Same I got fatty too. Got YLOD in '07 but Sony sorted that & it's been running fine ever since.

OP: Cannot agree more with those saying to clean it & ensure its not in an enclosed space, dust & heat will shorten its life so avoid those & you will be fine.

Get it serviced regularly & it will last years even playing 5+ hours a day 👍

I just got YLOD this week. Had it for going on four years, playing GT5 9+ hours each and every day. Must say I got some good life out of it. I'll be getting a new one in about 4 days.

Man this sucker was on 24/7 for like 2 weeks straight almost...

if you have an old (fat) ps3, then the laser will probably crap out soon. reason i say this is because i've had 3 80g laser deaths. They just dont last. (the slim ps3's have separate lasers, this seems to prolong their life)

I don't assume there's a limit time in flashing on your PS3 if you're pondering running yours on endlessly until it turns off itself or accidentally by other factors... I've left mine on for 20 hours but I haven't seen any trouble or disorder in it so far.

I used to worry about leaving it on for too long, but then I came to the same attitude I have with my computer. I never turn it off unless I require a reboot or want to clean it. Otherwise it is always on. I have had mine for almost four years. Great systems.

I got my fatty when they 1st came out (however long ago that is) & apart from a period of around 10 months where it wasn`t even turned on, it was/is regularly left running for at least 7 consecutive days without a problem.
I think the longest it`s been left continually running is 1 straight month a couple of years ago.

I had my 120GB Slim on for 60 days straight earlier this year. It hasn't missed a beat, still running strong. One of the issues I've read about deals with the system getting warm, cool, warm, etc. causing shortness of life. Alot of my friends just leave it on until it YLOD (years later).

I run mine with a Nyko Intercooler sitting flat on a USB powered, dual-fan laptop cooling pad. Whatever you do and however you run it, keep it cool and clean.

As to the Nyko, it is crap. This is my second one, and it is doing exactly what the first one did. When I first start it, it makes a horrible horrible noise. It takes half a minute for the fans to seat properly and quiet down. Anyone else have any cooler packs like this one to recommend?

my 1st PS3, got RLOD'd during GT5 Prologue intro over a year ago. Since I got a replacement PS3 FAT, and a thirdparty Air cooler, and SSD drive (only 60GB but who cares, it's only for GT5 & Rockband 3) , it's been churning along fine for 4 hours a day on average, ever since.

I have a recurring bug, that GT5 now starts with no sound, its annoying, I can only cure it with 2 game restarts. Occasionally the PS3 also starts with "new HDMI" detection as well. Hope it lasts until PS4, otherwise I'll just have to get another PS3! When the PS4 and GTx does finally ship, I will go place my PS3 someplace networked and dark, and let it Fold @ Home till it croaks.

I had a 40GB fatty for 4 years. I did take care of it (like I do with most these things) however it did YLOD, managed to fix it but a month later it YLOD again. I must admit I did play COD a lot... a lot, but rarely left my PS3 on for +10 hours in a row.
I trust my PS2 over any PS3 (due to the software), in a year time I probably have to reset my PS3 more than I ever had to reset (when freezing) my PS2 in it's entire lifetime.

My original 60Gb console has been through three houses, two girlfriends (not literally - they didn't eat them) and six cars. It's played MW, MW2, Assassin's Creed, AC2, AC Brotherhood, AC Revelations, GTA4, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas GT5P and GT5 non-stop since it first arrived in the first house on March 23rd 2007, along with several stints as the main DVD/BluRay player and, with PS2 capability, a PS2 stand-in (I have seven of them, but it seems pointless getting them out). It's done a week straight of B-Spec endurance racing - without the game even being rebooted - followed by another week of Remote Racing only being turned off from 11pm to 7am. It's run twelve full Nuerburgring 4 hour endurances, some over the course of three days. It's even had three days of being switched on and absolutely hammered at the UKGTP14 LAN earlier this year.

That's an original, 60Gb launch console. I've just turned it off for the day just now (more Assassin's Creed Revelations) after 8 hours of gaming, some online...

I have never done a full back up and only done 1 full reformat, I have a 40 GB Fatty which I got pretty much as soon as the 40's came out.

Slim copes far better, Not heard the fan once in over 2 years, I have a friend on here "ErikAndre71" who hasn't turned his PS3 off and playing GT5 constantly for months, (could be years, I only been friends with him for last 7-8 months) no joke!
