Thanks for the clarifications guys 👍

I still don't get why they didn't show the physical console, if its out before xmas the design must be finalised because they will need months to ramp up production for launch. It just didn't really make much sense to make people wait till E3 (probably) to see it when it must be out there...

Also probably something to do with being unsure of how to fit the 8GB of ram properly, and getting everything cooled. I'll wager anyone $5 it'll be a white and/or black box shape though, with some rounded edges.

I'm thinking it'll be a mix of the launch Xbox 360 (without HDD sticking off the side) and PS3 Slim, which might not be too bad 👍

I'm not sure about color, though. I'm guessing black/charcoal grey for US/Europe and white for Japan? Or maybe just black/charcoal grey/white for all regions. Personally, I think black just fits the PlayStation.

Black also fits in well with the colors of most home theater products.

I dont expect the PS4 to be grey like the PS1, I just hope they put more color highlights into it then they did with the PS3. The PS2 had a nice blue area around the USB ports as well as the blue PS2 logo. I hope they do something like that with PS4 instead of making it a pure black widow like the PS3.

Hopefully my G27 still works :D

That's too bad that DS3s don't though, I'm pretty sure these new pads are going to be at least $75 each.

And as far as the finish, I like the PS3's texture a lot more than the fat PS3 gloss. I hope they keep it similar to the slim, and maybe some nice light accents.

I don't think that they will be that expensive. I'm guessing that they will be about £40.

Either they mean the DS3 will work but doesn't have the right buttons (and it certainly doesn't have a track pad) and therefore isn't 'supported' but can do most of what the new controller can, or they're not using the HID protocol any more. If they're not using HID that could mean other controllers (i.e. wheels, fighting sticks) won't be supported either... But I don't think that will be the case. It could be, though.

Noooo the original 60GB model is easily the best looking of all PS3, Gloss Black with Chrome, looked stunning!

I'm not a fan of how the slim looks tbh....

Looks good, yes. But I HATE dust and fingerprints, especially since they're so visible on a glossy finish. I regret getting the glossy Xbox 360 S just because of that reason.

Matte is the way to go 👍
(For me, at least)

Agreed. The slim just looks cheap. No art to it

So, shiny = art?

The only thing I don't care for on the Slim is how squashed it looked from the top. Looking at it front-on it has a really nice profile. The newer slim looks better in that respect since it's not as wide.

But I was only talking about the finish anyway.

I wouldn't want it glossy 'cause I think that looks sort of tacky these days. They'll probably want to give a sense of strength kind of like Apple does with their phones in using metal and glass. Or they could go Samsung and have lots of nice transparent plastic accents around.

Chrome's out of style pretty much I'd say.

It could look like something along the same aesthetic style as this new Blu-ray player:

Faceted type inspired.

This style looks really nice:

Tinge of blue transition is yummy.

Seems more sites are reading into what I was secretly suspecting from recent interviews - that the ability to play used games on the PS4 isn't as clean cut as what was asked, that the catch of paying to unlock them may still lurk in the deep. In the interviews, it was only stated that the PS4 can play used games, but the Sony reps dodged like a top politician to clarify any further. Sony are not off the hook yet I say.

Perhaps they're leaving it up to the developers. It's what I'd do in their situation, that way they can pawn off blame onto the devs.

That would actually be a really smart way to go, if they were to do that.

They could set up for it, allowing games to have attached DRM codes or whatever. And leave it as an option. I'm imagining it could be PC like in that "You have installed this game 3 out of 5 allowed times on a PS4."

That would really wreck things though :/

will it support fightsticks, wheels, mics etc?

also as someone who plays both live and psn, the difference is almost non existent. certainly not enough to pay for live. capcom fighters, cod games etc all have as good as no difference in their online play.

also gameplay wise there isnt a whole lot that can be done on the ps4 that wasn't possible on ps3.

PS4 sounds good and the new control looks good too.(shame dualshock 3 won't work with it though)
Due to the fact PS3 discs aren't compatible and streaming via gaiki is a possibility I don't want to pay for PS3 games I already have so is there a possibility of typing in the unique codes each game has on PSN and
having access to a streamed version instead?

I don't like the idea of repurchasing games i have on my shelf, AT ALL! I think that's one of the boogers they need to work out. Since it's a fact DS3 won't work, I guess current wheels won't work either.

Surely there is a way of using our PS3 discs as a means of acquiring a streamed version on PS4.Maybe even going down to our local game store to verify our discs and receive a redeem code similar to PSN cards that would make many people happy and help the PS4 sell much better. It's worth it from SONY's point of view isn't it?

I have whatever PS3 they made in 2009 that wasn't shiny, and my friend has a backward compatible fatty from just after release. I probably like the look of his because I had to play PS2 for 3 years after PS3 came out while he got straight to it, but the gloss black with "PlayStation 3" written in silver Spiderman font always looked awesome.

I'm actually more concerned about my wheels being deemed "useless" in less than a year

My wife just bought me a pretty Classic White PS3 to replace my YLOD fat model, that died early last year. My daughter is happy to get her Slim back.

With this PSN purchases being cut down from 5 to 2, I wonder how they will screw is next.

I got both my DFGTs on Craigslist for the price of a DS3, so not concerned as much. If I had a G27 and Playseat, then I can definitely understand some anxiety.

The cost of the unusable wheel is irrelevant when you have to buy the ONLY compatible wheel for the PS4 for (let's say) $500.

That as well. Has Logitech been confirmed as leaving the business?

That isn't going to happen. There is a much simpler solution. Say you put a ps3 game in your ps4. The system verifies the disc and brings up a menu offering to take you to the streaming service. Take the disc out and you won't be able to play. It's simple, allows people to play the games they own and prevents people exploiting the system.

I wonder how long Microsoft will wait now, judging by the count down they are planning on an E3 reveal but I think after a strong showing by Sony they need to do something.

BUT you all forgot the main point.

They enjoy reselling stuff twice.

Hmm. Thinking about it, maybe Logitech know that the PS4 won't support HID devices and that's why they decided to drop console support. Perhaps licensing whatever tech Sony want to use would be too expensive? Or maybe it's just because they don't make enough money from DFGT sales for it to be worth developing a new wheel for the PS4. And they would have to do that no matter how you look at it because of the whole track pad thing.

They said they were dropping console peripherals, PC peripherals are safe. I think, anyway.
