^ I seriously hope that's true (which seems very likely). Can't wait, love the PS4 the BEST console ever this year imo. W00T Sony. :D

Just a question how did you come to that opinion when we have very little info from Microsoft.

Just curious.

Ohh no I'll be keeping that to myself, I dislike getting to any conflicts with others... I know someone will call me a fanboy off the internet for not explaining, but go ahead for all I care, because I've always liked Playstation. Never liked MS...

Personally speaking, I'm not interested in the nextbox despite not knowing much about it. I have two reasons: 1. The fact that it will almost definitely not be released in Japan and 2. The rrod debacle.

As for my first reason, this is purely a location based problem and not really a criticism of the console itself. The whole rrod debacle really soured things for me though. I was about to buy a 360 when original reports on the rrod surfaced and decided to hold off. I decided to wait on a revised system that would have fixed the problem. Though the reliability has improved, the rrod hasn't been eradicated and as a result, I haven't bought a 360. At this point, it's so late in the generation that I wouldn't bother unless Microsoft released a new 360 that was dirt cheap. I know that the ps3 isn't 100% reliable but it is far better in that regard.

So those are my reasons. Neither really have anything to do with the nextbox, so it's not a criticism of the console itself. I will still keep an eye on things but unless a sudden return to Europe or North America is on the cards for me, I'll be sticking with playstation. I like a lot of what Sony are doing with the ps4 although I have no doubt that microsoft's next console will be similarly impressive.

Probably a good idea not to post stupid inflammatory comments in the first place then.

I dunno, there are some serious problems with the PS3 reliability too.. I mean the entire thing with taking it apart and baking it in an oven to "fix it for a while"?? Seriously? That doesn't concern you one little tiny bit? LOL. I had a PS3 stop reading Blu Ray movies after 11 months, it had nothing to do with that other problem, still read games fine and played games fine. I wouldn't give either consoles any credit for being super reliable or even what I would consider high quality. Actually my opinion of Sony is that they make junk after my experience with the PS3. A Sony TV? Sure I will take one all day long, the PS3 is made to a cost and the poor reliability proves that. I never bought an XBOX either.

Even if the PS4 was more powerful than high end cards, it's not like it would last long. Just sayin'.
What does that mean at all? The PS3 is still "lasting" and the PS4 will be much more powerful. On top of that developers will learn how to optimise games to a machine built for games. Nobody can optimise a game to a platform made for other stuff and every user has a unique setup of software and hardware components. It's a mess, and mess-related problems ensue.

Rumor: Sony Planning Big PS4 Reveal Before E3

PC Mag
Expect a big announcement from Sony about its next-gen PlayStation 4 console this month or possibly in early May, a source familiar with the company's marketing strategy told PCMag this week.

GDC was probably the last big stage for the company to talk up the successor to the PlayStation 3 before the E3 gaming conference in June, unless Sony manufactures its own event. That's precisely what Sony plans to do, according to the source, who said late April/early May will be the likeliest timeframe for a full-blown launch of the PS4.

That's a pretty extreme example. It isn't something I would try or condone. I never said the ps3 was perfect. Nor did I condone some idiot sticking an electronic device in an oven... LOL

The fact of the matter is that the ps3 is far more reliable than the 360 I'm sure Microsoft are taking steps to avoid a repeat, but who are you going to trust? My ps3 has served me well. My friends who own 360s have not been so fortunate. In my own experiences, the ps3 has proven to be far more reliable. That's more reassuring than the experience of any random person on the Internet.

Which is a good thing. I remember the PS3 version of Madden running at 30fps for years before finally getting upgraded to 60fps. That shouldnt be an issue now.
And you don't think the same issue could creep up with 720p vs. 1080p? I most certainly do, especially since the hardware will have to last for a good bit of time.
Too much is always better then too little, am I right? The PS3 had 512mbs of memory in 2006. That wasnt too bad for the time, and Im sure many thought it was plenty. Now fast forward a few years and you hear that the #1 complaint from developers about the consoles is their lack of memory. If the Epic games president as well as others like Michael Pachter say the 8GBs of memory will have a real positive effect on games, I tend to believe them.

I dont remember the exact number, but I believe BF3 only used 3GBs of system memory and around 1.5GBs of video memory. Thats a total of 5GBs at most. PS4's 8GBs clears that easily.
Wow, it serves the needs of a 2011 game well. Add the PS4's operating system and you've got little headroom for the next six or so years it'll be in service. Also, the RAM and VRAM aren't the only things that matter, in case you've forgotton.
What about a 7900? Also a Radeon 7850 is considered high end, with only 2GBs
It'd be inbetween the 680 and 690. NVIDIA's line-up isn't as diverse as it was in the day. Nevertheless, the 680 is the 7800's equivalent, so I don't quite get what you're trying to do here. Find a single-GPU card that outperformed the last generation consoles by a factor of 1.5?
10x faster then a Prius, so Im happy
I'm used to something that's 15 to 20 times faster than a Prius, so I'm not. Because, to me, it's still slow.

I dont know, Sony is throwing in 8GBs of GDDR5, that really isn't skimping. If anything thats going over and beyond the call of duty. Pun not intended. Nintendo is making another underpowered console, and Microsoft is using cheap parts again like the DDR3 memory, while Sony is piling up the expensive tech in their console. Sounds like last gen to me all over again.
I'd wager that the Kinect 2.0 that's coming with every Kinextbox does offset the higher cost Sony will have from GDDR5. And "piling up"? Because one component is more expensive?
I dont think most gamers have gotten to the point where its too much of a chore to turn on the big screen and sit on the couch. So traditional gaming will remain, for now, IMO.
So, what is it? If traditional gaming will prevail, why is it, then, that iPad-esque simplicity makes a perfect gaming PC? Well, it's PR talk, so it doesn't really mean much, of course...

The difference is a non factor and something I can totally overlook
Is there something you couldn't overlook?
Funny to think back to all the people that were sure PS4 would be able to play 4k games.
Someone thought it would?

I bet it will look amazing.
Unless PD choses to tax the console too much by some specific assets, so that they'd have to compromise in other areas again. More hardware power doesn't mean they're safe from strange design choices.
Wow... >_>
He's right, though. Saying "I'm not a fanboy" works just as well as saying "no offense" before an insult.

By "both sides", do you mean Sony and Microsoft? Personally, I wouldn't be so sure of that. There are two things that I'm fairly certain of: First, if they wanted to get into an arms race, both consoles wouldn't share such similar hardware. Two, if changes are requested, they're probably going to be requested unigquely by either Sony or Microsoft to set their console apart.
I mean AMD and Microsoft or AMD and Sony. I don't think AMD will be telling who is doing what, but I would think each other have quite a bit of information about each others respective consoles.

Well, the development teams can't really be a small group of people. You've got to have pretty decent amount of folks involved, starts with the managing board as it's a big decision to make, the heads of the financial departments to calculate whether it's paying off and, of course, the R&D department. Maybe even the marketing department.

You make it sound like you think it's like someone building a PC for themselves, making his mind up to pick a different graphics card over what he initially wanted. Doesn't it occur to you that this is a bit bigger?
There is most likely a lot of people behind making the next consoles happen. However certain things will be kept top secret internally and the Playstation conference also showed this being the case.

And there's a very distinct possibility that they'd have to start over with the development of the cooling solutions, have to re-evaluate the power consumption and so on and so forth.
They would know what they are developing for. Even if they made last minute changes that weren't even in their plan, Sony is not some small company that can't react to something as relatively simple as this.

We're how far away from release? Less than a year? And how long has the console been in development for? The last three years? More? What do you think has Sony been doing for the biggest part of the development cycle? Do you honestly think that it takes years on end to develop a console if you can just twist it around a year prior to release?
They aren't using 3 year old technology. They have their known targets I am sure internally, good thing for both Microsoft and Sony is working with AMD, they can leave finalisations of hardware quite late and still be able to make it to market in time.

Sounds like you're just trying to come up with reasons as to why you might get what you want.
They might keep things as they are, I am just hoping they have something extra as it is most likely going to be another long generation.

Lost out? Sony and MS were probalby just unwilling to pay the price NVIDIA asked. NVIDIA, as a company, is in much better shape than AMD is - and that's been the case for years.
Clearly they lost out, they couldn't match what AMD could deliver. They were probably only a small consideration by Microsoft and Sony given they are behind in GPU department in the area Microsoft and Sony were probably looking for. Intel on the other hand has a process node advantage which was probably looked at but most likely too expensive compared to what AMD could deliver, overall very efficient SoC, and flexibility of having one company do most of the hardware.

Absolutely but look back through some general next gen thread and GT6 threads, a lot of people were certain a PS4 could be powerful enough for 4k games. It was pretty funny.
Why do you think that is not the case now? I am quite confident we will see some 4K games for PS4 in near future just using the one console. What I think would be better though is like some games PS3 multi-monitor feature, if there was a way on using two PS4s to do 4K gaming instead of developers lowering peak graphics quality to make 4K possible on one console.

They should be making a cheaper Xbox 360, hopefully they make one that doesn't destroy game discs if you move console. I wonder if Sony will combat this by making a new smaller and cheaper to manufacture a slimmer PS3 too. I don't think it is looking that good for the Wii U.

It will be interesting to see what is happening regarding next Xbox in terms of power. New development kit seems to have been made and this time having 2 APUs so if this is true, probably challenge PS4 in top graphics level.

Unless PD choses to tax the console too much by some specific assets, so that they'd have to compromise in other areas again. More hardware power doesn't mean they're safe from strange design choices.

My expectations are as low as they can get for GT6. I hope it fails so Sony can take control over the game and give it to a new team. The design choices of GT5 were not good. I sold well but so does resident evil movies.

Clearly they lost out, they couldn't match what AMD could deliver. Nvidia doesn't make CPU cores and would have cost them more to license one. They also don't make high end Soc. AMD is the best at it and the best option. Nvidia knew it would cost more and Sony didn't want to pay for what they lacked. CPU cores.

Maybe that's why they made the choices they made? 💡

As for 4k games, highly, highly doubt it.

Simon's right. It is funny.
It will be funny to see if it does happen. No doubt you will be saying I had another lucky break while you being wrong again. However the only way I don't see it happening is Sony not allowing developers 4K option for single console and making it set that you need to use two consoles for that experience. They are most likely working on these details now.

Also @Luminis you do realise there is something called a 7950GT which is a single GPU card?

I mean AMD and Microsoft or AMD and Sony. I don't think AMD will be telling who is doing what, but I would think each other have quite a bit of information about each others respective consoles.
Well, it depends on whether AMD is manufacturing everything in the console - or just supplying the APU while the console itself is being made in a different plant. Which I'm considering to be more likely.
There is most likely a lot of people behind making the next consoles happen. However certain things will be kept top secret internally and the Playstation conference also showed this being the case.
Well, I'd still assume that significant changes in the hardware would require a lot of time, money and resources to develop and produce.

They would know what they are developing for. Even if they made last minute changes that weren't even in their plan, Sony is not some small company that can't react to something as relatively simple as this.
I'm not too sure of that. Sony did have some issues with manufacturing the PS3, after all.

They aren't using 3 year old technology. They have their known targets I am sure internally, good thing for both Microsoft and Sony is working with AMD, they can leave finalisations of hardware quite late and still be able to make it to market in time.
Being in development for three years doesn't mean the tech is as old.

They might keep things as they are, I am just hoping they have something extra as it is most likely going to be another long generation.
I'm actually with you on this; I wish they would show something more, but, well, they don't need to. They'd be paying more than they'd need to pay without getting a significant additonal amount of money out of it.

Meh, let me put it this way: The deal didn't get AMD out of its desperate financial situation, so it can't have been that good (which is why I think the loss for NVIDIA isn't as big as some might think).
We're not yet sure whether the PS4 will do 1080p on all its games, and you're expecting 4K? :indiff:
It will be interesting to see what is happening regarding next Xbox in terms of power. New development kit seems to have been made and this time having 2 APUs so if this is true, probably challenge PS4 in top graphics level.
I wish the rumours surrounding the next Xbox were at least as stable as the ones surrounding the PS4...
Also @Luminis you do realise there is something called a 7950GT which is a single GPU card?
Which a) wasn't that far ahead of the 7800 and b) still isn't the equivalent of today's GTX 680. So what?
It will be funny to see if it does happen. No doubt you will be saying I had another lucky break while you being wrong again. You know, playing Pong in 4k doesn't cut it. A German PC magazin tested Crysis 1 in 4k, ona system based around a HD7970 Toxic, overclocked to 1200mhz and matched it with an i7. Crysis 1's benchmark ran at 14 FPS. That shoudl give you and idea of jsut how taxing 4k is.

It certainly would be. Though since you've ignored every reason why it won't every time you brought the topic up in the GT5 forum, and you've ignored all of the evidence that the PS4 is probably going to be shooting for 1080p@60fps for the best case based on the hardware it has, and you've ignored Sony's own statements that they've made multiple times for how the system won't support 4k for games, it still wouldn't be a feather in your cap so much as you just talking until it turns out you're right.

No doubt you will be saying I had another lucky break while you being wrong again.

I assume you're referring to the PS3 Super Slim news, where you kept repeating yourself over and over and over again and refused to clarify your statements why you felt it was being made, then when Sony actually announced it you acted as if you were right all along even though you might as well have been making it up as you went along for all the validity your original points had.

You know, playing Pong in 4k doesn't cut it.

What about Plasma Pong in 4K?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that in my opinion, 4K in a 'proper' game (AAA release like GT or Battlefield) just isn't going to happen. Resolution doesn't count for anything when you're playing at 24fps, which is the current maximum you can get through HDMI 1.4. 30fps is bad enough, but 24...? No thanks. It probably will do 4K films though, I see no reason why it wouldn't be able to do that. But if the hardware can't physically do any better than 4K at 24fps... What's the point? I'd rather have lower resolution that runs smoother.

As far as I know, HDMI 2.0 (which is intended to support 4K at 60fps) doesn't exist yet. If the PS4 has HDMI 2.0 when it's released, I'll take this post back!

Wait, are we seriously going to have the 4k discussion AGAIN? Even though Sony has outright stated PS4 won't be able to do 4k games and everything we know about the hardware suggests the same thing?

Wow... >_>

You really don't see how that supposed opinion, not backed up, can be seen as inflammatory flamebait? You know, since you can't possibly have based that opinion on fact given we don't know any about the next Xbox and we don't even know everything about the PS4?

It's funny that you roll around these forums giving +1's to countless other peoples opinions but as soon as you finally decide to give one of your own you aren't willing to back it up with reason.

I'm not even sure what your problem is with me, really. :grumpy: It's like you have something against me, always checking my posts to write something negative to me. At least I'm not always mr. negative everytime.

If theres something about me you don't like, simply just ignore me, instead of making me look like some idiot to everyone on here... 👎 Sorry if my post bothered you THAT much. >_>

I don't have a problem with you and I certainly don't follow you around checking your posts, you just happen to post in threads that I read. I just pulled you up on that post because without backing it up it WAS inflammatory fanboy nonsense, I'm not sure how you can't see that.

All I'm saying is if you're going to post something "IMO" on a forum you're going to have to be prepared to be grilled on it if you can't back that opinion up with reason and/or facts. That's how discussion forums work, you can't just tell people to ignore it. We'd have no debates or discussions if everyone did that.

Well for one I don't post in threads where you read, I just like the discussion that are in them or threads I find interesting to post in. :)

Actually I have a few hours ago, I'm not that dumb. But I agree with you that's for sure.

Alright, I'll keep that in mind next time. I should've taken the time to read on opinion. >_<' Thanks for teaching me. 👍

Actually they aren't idiots, it is a well known way to fix a certain problem that makes a lot of PS3s experience YLOD do to a design flaw, or them using the wrong type of thermal compound or something. I forget, I never looked into it much because I never had to do it, but a lot of people did. Google it, you will see.
