I am very happy with the price, it's going to retail for $549 here in Australia which is much less than I expected considering the PS3 retailed for $999 AUD if I remember correctly.

I will most likely get it this year along with watch dogs and PS Plus.

Have they given any release dates yet? I'm assuming not considering I havent seen one mentioned.

Still just 2013

Paying for PS+ will make the service better, they will still bring free games if not better. They said Driveclub is going to be free, so here goes the first 60$

It's also better than $8.50. Not sure what your point is though?

I was making a point that even though the online charge is there to appease the publishers, it is a fair price considering what you are getting.

Wait a minute!
So the PS4 is not only the much stronger and more consumer friendly console, it also costs so much less? (X1 in UK costs as much as the 60gb launch PS3)

So I've just woken up to all the news,

I thought Sony could get the upper hand by being like $100 cheaper but man being this much cheaper is a killer move. No DRM and no restrictions amazing, the console itself looks much cooler, very Alienware and interesting although slightly cheap looking (should have been all gloss black with one chrome 'panel'). Also how the hell is it so much smaller than the one?!

However I am very disappointed in paid online and its such a deal breaker that it goes from buy to not buy for now. I never play enough or buy games frequently enough to warrant a pay monthly subscription and you would almost feel forced to play it otherwise your throwing money away.

You can bet that they are going to reduce the stuff you get on the now more expensive PS+ to pay for online play side of things. I never understood why people thought PS+ was a good value anyway... newsflash, the games are not "free" your getting rentals that you can't keep.

Of course the thousands of Xbox converts coming over will have no problem being screwed for online, they are used to it! Charging for online gaming made sense back in 2002 because of the infrastructure but in an age where internet connectivity is now the norm why are they still charging?... because they have brainwashed people into thinking something like this needs to be paid for.

Plus is remaining as it is now with online play. IGC will be the same, so 6 free games a month (2 PS3, 2 PSV, 2 PS4) with the games that stay permanently. The value is very good, I can't complain.

If you don't play games frequently, don't buy PS+, unless online is really that important to you. I'll be getting the PS4 and PS+, but not for the multiplayer.

PS+ is good value because it's the cost of one game per year when you get a dozen or so free ones for the price of it. Yes, you have to keep your subscription to continue to be able to play them, just like Netflix. How often do you replay a game anyway? Perhaps twice or three times after you've completed the first time after a couple of months. For me, it's a much better option than paying full or even sale price for these games but then not playing them again.

Are the monthly subscription and ps+ the same thing or not?

Anyway, I do not mund paying a monthly fee as I get a lot of use out of multiplayer as it is. I just hope the money goes towards making the psn a better experience, which im sure it will.

I am the kind of person who takes my time over a game and can leave one for months and come back to it, I'm still completing some of my PS2 games! That's why subscriptions are not for me because I would be rushing to get it all finished and with new ones being added every month it would become almost like a chore.

I'm willing to bet the quality of those 6 games will decrease somewhat because they can't maintain a quality PS+ and on-line services with only a slight increase in the fee. Unless the on-line experience is no different to the PS3 one in which case they are taking everyone for a ride.

My only concern with the PS plus is whether or not they retain the bonus features that they offer (obviously i'm referring to the bonus games) and if they do so throughout the PS4's lifespan.

What the hell was that Assassin's Creed demo during the PS4 conference? Was that on PSVita? Because it looked like crap and didn't even run. It was just a guy awkwardly playing a game on stage. What a momentum killer!

Guess it was the livestream after all and not my laggy internet. That was a bit of an awkward moment...

I knew someone would post this

You have to pay to play online now? I thought that was unacceptable to a lot of PS users.

Not for me.

Sony and MS have just made the choice rather simple, my 360 is getting traded for a PS4 and as I already pay for both Live and PS+ it will actually work out cheaper for me year on year.

The only regret will be the loss of Forza, which has turned into an excellent series, but MS really dropped the ball for me with the Xbone.

I am massively impressed with the PS4, I was worried that the Xbox One would wipe the floor with it but having read all the comments and opinions posted online it seems the complete opposite way around! I will be buying a PS4 in a heartbeat.

The pay to play online thing however is the only thing thats seriously dissapointed me. I don't normally play games online anymore unless the games' trophies say I have to. If the monthly subscription is a reasonable price then I may come round to it.

Agreed I think my xbox360 is also going to be traded for the ps4.

From what I can see they have decided to hit the home entertainment center crowd and made a bit of a lazy effort towards gaming.

Think ill just leave this here..

Holy 🤬! I wish I didn't miss the conference afterall. I thought it would be something not to bother tuning in for at 3AM. This is some of the best news I've had the joy to wake up to. I couldn't care less about PS+ needed for online gaming as I personally sort of expected it anyway, but the rest regarding DRM, is so much win.

I'm now even more tempted than ever before to get one at launch. 400 Euros is a reasonable price for what we're getting.

I didn't expect them to be this straightforward at E3, but they completely wiped the floor with Microsoft and exceeded my expectations.

My Live subscription runs until around November so I will get the most out of it before it goes in as well.

I have to say if you'd have asked me six months ago I would have put money on this being the other way around, but it is what it is and I can't support MS with the direction they have taken with the Xbox, no matter how good FM5 is.

GT6 and DriveClub will keep me going, its just what else to get at launch; most likely it will be Killzone.

The design of the PS4 makes me wonder; how are we supposed to turn on the console :odd:?

And honestly, it looks as ugly as B&O's "designer equipment".

I share those sentiments. As a gold subscriber myself it has never bothered me paying for a decent service. XBL was always more stable than PSN for me???

However I have read many many times that paying to play online was for mugs. I was wondering how that crowd reacted to last nights news. Maybe they will purchase a Wii U? The last free to play online console.

Oddly, gaming wise I feel Xb showed better content (debatable I know) but I can't condone logging in,DRM,and bricking the console if Internet goes down.

Interestingly both my Xb and PS3 have enjoyed continuos Internet connection since purchase. (Except for PSN debacle). It's the thought of bricking it and non genuine ownership of content that's the killer.

My fate is in Kaz's hands for next gen Motorsport sim. (That's not a pretty thought either lol).

If the stream of the conference in Home or on the XMB "Internet browser" are any indication of the load SONY is capable of handling, we are in TROUBLE! It was just awful. Just as it was in Feb.

It streamed fine on my iPad and iPhone over the same wifi in full HD with not much as a thought of cowering in fear.

According to the PDF, the camera is not in the "included" list".

I am quite happy to stick to one system this gen unless MS pull a huge change.

While I would rather online stayed free (who wouldn't) having to get PS Plus to play online is no big deal as I would have got it already had I had more than a 60gb drive in my PS3. No point getting in and having no room for any of the games.

I will be getting a PS4 at some point although maybe not at launch.
