I like the design, I like the price, I'm well ok with the PS Plus requirement for online play (I mean, $49 a year and you get a free game every month plus a lot of other stuff. It's a steal.) and I'm happy to not have any of the used games and DRM restrictions.

I was expecting more first party game announcements though, but overall, what a great conference it was. Probably Sony's best since they announced the PS2.

$399.99 WOW, i paid much more for the dinosaur that is the PS3 on launch, no reason not to buy a PS4 for you cheapskates

No need to be rude, whilst it's certainly relatively cheap $400 is still a lot of money for a lot of people on a luxury toy.

The ps3 was hardly a dinosaur at launch.

You paid for a new gen system its just great that this one will not be as expensive.

As was I but it makes me happy knowing there are so many quality titles already revealed and Sony hasn't really blown there first part load yet.;)

Finally. :sly:

I've never cared about Xbox One, before their press conference and after. But now i think many gamers would pick PS4 rather Xbox One. Good choice.

Ohhhhh i've been waiting for this revealed so long. My needs are all satisfied now :)

I don't get the excitement over $399 price tag. I think they got it right, but nothing to write home about. If the online cost $60 for the year like Xbox Live, that bumps up the cost of the console every year.

My PS3 was $399 in 2007. Now, let's pretend it didn't die from YLOD(I bought another for $299). PS3 cost me about $399 over 5 years, with online gaming. PS4 would cost me $699 for 5 years.

I would not argue that $5-a-month/$60-a-year is reasonable. I dropped Xbox Live when they raised their price to $60, but that's because PSN was free. And if PS4 don't suffer from YLOD, operating cost of PS4 should be comparable to PS3, at least for others like me who are on their replacement PS3. ;)

Does this mean there will be a huge increase of COD playing twelve year olds on PSN? That's the only thing i don't like about all of the Xbox fanboys supposedly switching over.

Yes, this reveal. They announced it months ago though........

Ridiculous comment is ridiculous.

I'm sure PSN has the equivalent as of now. Also, did you take time to read how ridiculous this post is?

You have to pay to play online now? I thought that was unacceptable to a lot of PS users.

You're comparing the price reduced PS3 to the launch price PS4 though, not entirely fair. Consoles are naturally most expensive at launch. In late 2014/5 PS4 will be even cheaper and a fairer comparison.

Agreed. I bet about six to eight months after launch we might see some deals on the PS4 price

Touché. 👍

What the hell was that Assassin's Creed demo during the PS4 conference? Was that on PSVita? Because it looked like crap and didn't even run. It was just a guy awkwardly playing a game on stage. What a momentum killer!

If you want to play on line games, then yes. But if you don't and want to play single player games then psn + is not necessary.

For example GT7 would have 50 on line trophies and only 10 off line trophies. So off line players would never get their platinum trophy. Weird!

I fear that sony make collaborate with many game developers so they add some on line trophies to their games. And then those trophy hunters would have to pay.

Ps4 was finally announced huh? :sly:

Interesting question, so if they're going to charge for online gameplay that means getting rid of online passes? that would make sense

Sorry if it's been answered, but I'm very confused in "Gaikai". Is this more or less backwards compatibility? And if so, can we expect to see PS3's GT6 playable on the PS4?

Not necessarily. Certain games on the 360 had online passes, and you obviously still paid for Gold there.

I really don't mind having to pay for PS+ to play online, as I'd presume that part of that fee would go towards the upkeep and expansion of the servers Sony are going to have to invest in to cope with the live streaming, upload of replays, live chat etc. etc. that the PS4 is going to support. A free game every month and the other perks that come with the package (which I don't subscribe to currently) is then even more of a bonus.

Plus... the £80 I save by staying well away from the Microsoft Set-Top (x)box pays for over a year of PS+ alongside my PS4! Sony have really worked hard on getting this right, whereas I feel Microsoft have tried to be too clever and think of the b2b side of modern consoles. Sony still understands that you make a games console first, and then the netflix, tv and all that other stuff can be added in secondary to the console's primary function. Basically the Xbox One doesn't do anything that the current-gen consoles can't feasibly do (if they're not doing it already), so work that in afterwards!
