Oh very nice. Looks like Sony learned their lesson for sure from the mistakes with the PS3. 👍
Any confirmation for sure if we can play used games? I am surprised the price isn't listed in the title of this thread.

Yes, it's all in the first post of this thread.

Actually seems that you will be getting a basic headset and HDMI cables with your console !

It really is amazing how cheap the PS4 is considering you are practically buying an XBOX ONE without the unnecessary inconveniences , as well as recieving HDMI cables and a basic headset (although im sure most people already have these). It seems a no-brainer to buy a PS4 over the new Xbox, although several of the Xbox's exclusives do look good.

I really don't mind the monthly charge for PS+ considering the monthly free game you receive for doing so, as well as helping improvments of the Playstation Network.

I just hope the PS4 makes good use of the PSVITA because I have been dicked by Sony over this, as I only use it for the internet and social networking.

Does anyone know if the dualshock4 uses a standard headphone/headset jack or a custom Sony one for headsets?

Does anyone have a confirmation about the PS+ needed??

Other than that: sony take my money. Preordered today. Price, design, architecture,... everything is awesomesauce 👍

I watched the Ms conf. and taught it was good and wondered what Sony would deliver if they could as they spilled the beans in feb.
But so much ownage and pawnage followed, I giggled like Quackmayer

Well if you add in the price of the PS eye then its very close to the price of the X1. However, the PS4 is still cheaper. I need to check the first post to see if PSN is still free.

X1 everything included $500
PS4 including PS eye $460

So it's going to be region free, and according to HMRC you won't need to pay VAT or import tax on any gifts under £390. So if you have friends or family who are visiting from the States, that'll save you £100...

Let's look at it this way, even though Xbox Live was a paid service with no free games, discounts etc. , many still payed for it, why ?, Xbox Live was a good service, let's not beat around the bush here it's better than PSN overall. The money obviously went to towards updates to make the service even better.

I wouldn't mind if the same thing happened to PSN, except we are also getting the perks from PS+ with the deal. The problem is that PS3 owners are used to having free online play, but sometimes you have to give to get something back, in this case, a better service in the long term (hopefully) .

Yeah I understand and I I have an old PS3 that has slight issues so I'll hopefully sell it and use that to cover a few years PS plus subscribtion .

But you're right hopefully it translates to a better experience. My other problem is it seems alot of Next gen titles require the user to have a really fast internet connection (which isn't an option for me :( )

Regarding the PS4's looks I really like it hopefully it doesn't have any YLOD RROD issues current gen consoles had at launch

How many people actually want the eye? I certainly don't.:)

That depends what you're using it for.
For example, PS Move

So what can the ps eye be used for Is it similar to move?

You need PSEye for PS Move.
Hopefully I'd like to see that motion-tracking feature with the PSEye on GT5 (that only worked on arcade mode due to memory issues) fully work with the PS Camera on GT6

But, but you have to wait :guilty::indiff::yuck:

Preodered mine with day one delivery:tup::drool::dopey:

I'm quite surprised by how cheap it is here (NZ$650). New Zealand prices are marked up a lot, even after the conversion rate. In fact, the 500GB SuperSlim is still over $500!

Yeah its about $549 AUD here, which compared to my PS3 Slim which costed around $650 when I got it in September 2010, is pretty damn good value :)

Ohhhh so you WILL have to pay to play PS4 online now. So technically after you add everything up, you can actually get the X1 for cheaper. That's clever Sony marketing right there. I knew that was coming. Knew there was a catch. There just simply was no way Sony could keep free online play. So that's another $59.99 a year. :sly:

What? Xbone will need gold membership AFIK so it isn't going to be more expensive in the long term.

I wonder what the sales charts are like right now?

I will be ordering one when I have the money.

By the time you add the price of the PS4 + the PS EYE + playstation plus you are about the same price as the X1 actually higher than the X1. Clever marketing by Sony for those not paying attention to the peripherals.

The price of the PS4 compared to the X1 sounds good at first, but they really are about the same by the time you are all setup to play online. If you don't want to play online then the PS4 is the way to go.

Xboxlive gold is on sale quite often for only $34.00 a year. No one I know pays over $34 a year for live.

Please answer this very important question.
I read the first post and don't see anything about Sony having dedicated servers. Will the PS4 have dedicated servers like X1?? That's a massive selling point for me. In fact that is THE top selling point right now for me since the price between the consoles is almost identical after the peripherals.

Do you know you have to pay extra for PSEye?

I thought some where I read that they were bundling a Eye and headset with every ps4?

Also what price are you basing plus on?

It's on sale quite often plus it stacks so you could buy a couple when it's on sale and have them carry over.

PS4 does not come with the EYE. That's an extra $59.99

Xboxlive also stacks just like Playstation plus but I have never seen playstation plus for anywhere near $34.00 a year like xboxlive.

Seriously these 2 consoles are actually very close in price once everything is added up.

BUT does the PS4 had dedicated servers? Still waiting for an answer on that. It will make or break the console for me.

Yes but do you need the eye? I haven't seen anywhere saying you need the eye like you need the Kinect.

If you're willing to jump through a hoop or two you can get PS+ for $40 from now to the 22nd at bestbuy. Probably only for US though. I just bought my first subscription tonight. See here for details. http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/967...subscription-card-40-3month-subscription-card

Edit: I just realized this post sounds like spam. I don't get paid, free or discounted items from BB or the site I linked to. I'm just really cheap and jump on deals while they are hot plus I wanted to share.

Thanks for that!

Thought it was included but glad that's cleared up.

Although PS4 at £348, PSEye at £44 and PSN+ at £29.99 is still cheaper than the X1 before any Live membership.

Still no dedicated servers for PS4. I spend 99.9% of my gaming online so I will pick a gaming console with dedicated servers over one without.

However if you are someone that doesn't game online very often then the PS4 is truly the best option.

Yes that is good news you do not need the eye for the PS4.

Oh another question. Will the PS4 have a party chat like xboxlive? Up to 8 people? The PS4 needs that bad.

I will probably do what I did for the last gen consoles - PS4 at launch and then possibly an Xbox One when the price has come down significantly... that said, given that my gaming time has shrunk drastically over recent years, I can't really see the need to own both consoles any more, and hence I'll probably have to say goodbye to the Xbox and concentrate on PS from now on.

I'm quite surprised at just how similar the two consoles look - PS4 wins but only just - Xbox looks like it was designed to hold VHS videotapes (and who knows, maybe it does...)

I absolutely detest the idea of having to be online to use the console properly though, hence PS wins hands down on that front, regardless of any other issues - and the secondhand game thing is quite important too, although not as important as backward compatibility - so I'm disappointed to see that the PS4 will not play PS3 games.

Any reactions from Microsoft yet?
Is it too early to speculate about the Xbox Two...??

I like that they managed to make console so compact even with PSU inbuilt which is external on Xbox One.

Shame about online thing though, hopefully neoGAF members organise another Twitter campaign. Seems to be a number of stuff will be free still regarding online though at least. Will be staying on PS3 as long as possible now. Hopefully by then online multiplayer will be free.

Pricing seems slightly too expensive, if it included camera then it would have been fine but I think that is due to them being in a strong position given opposition. They should be able to compete well on pricing in future given that the camera won't hold them back. Looking like way PS4 is, it is going to be highly profitable for Sony.

I thinkt that is one of the best features of the new console. Sony should offer the same. Especially when they want your money for playing online now.

Firstly, PS+ is technically the same price as Live, I wouldn't be taking sale prices into account here, secondly who wants a playstation eye ?, no doubt it put the price point down not including it with the system but that is called being smart and letting consumers chose if they want a kinect clone or not, very smart move.

I don't see your point at all I'm sorry, it costs $100 less, no tricks, you pay extra for online on both systems. Do you really think many gamers are going to buy a PS Eye ?, I certainly won't be. IMO only peripherals needed are a controller which comes with the system. You are also getting a headset and HDMI cables with the console. You can try all you want to make the low price point seem like a tradeoff for important features but a PS Eye isn't such a feature. Fact of the matter is that Sony undercut Microsoft by $100 US by taking away a camera hardcore gamers will not use. No tricks, just smart thinking. It is a bit ridiculous to say the prices are the same because we will all go out and buy an Eye seperately, something that won't be happening, I could lay money on it. The consoles may cost similar themselves but to own a PS4 a consumer has to pay $399 US, that is what counts.

Sorry, that might have been a little harsh but I am getting tired of people saying that the costs are the same if you include the eye. The point is that Sony is forcing you to pay $399 to own a PS4 while Microsoft is charging $499 for the Xbox One, when we are talking about motion cameras that hardcore gamers don't want being an instant sell with the console adding to concumer's costs I get a little frustrated.

The price of the PS4 sounds quite attractive but I think that quite a few people (myself included) will be put off by the fact PS+ is required to play online. The best thing about PSN on the PS3 was that it was free to use and PS+ was optional unlike Xbox Live so this latest version might be a step backwards.

chose if they want a kinect clone or not, very smart move.

From a price point it's a smart move. From a developers standpoint it's not.
Developers will be much quicker to support the kinect because everyone has one.

And calling the ps eye a kinect clone is a bit unfair for the kinect. The kinect is much more advanced.
