Pointless car(s)?

Honestly, I find the X2010 to be a pointless car. Sure it's cool and very fast, but I will stick with the real cars.

Peugoet 307 CC. Slow and heavy, yet it is a premium? :ouch:

No major problems with the other 1012 cars.

I don't believe there are any pointless cars in the game, because the point of a car is subjective. The Tank Car, for example, answers the question 'what would happen if I were to put a tank engine in a road car?'. A lot of people in real life don't see the point of anything but a cheap car with five seats, five doors and an engine, but we wouldn't agree with those people.

All the obscure, weird cars are why I love GT, I've learned a lot (about Japanese cars) from it, and without cars like the Nissan Be-1 or the Honda Beat, I'd probably never know they exist as I've never seen either in real life. I did see a Nissan Pao the other day and nearly had a heart attack, my girlfriend was not impressed. Without GT, I would have been wondering what it was all day (possibly)...

Agreed - this game got me loving the Evo 3 GSR and the Ginetta G4

For one, any of the GM cars that came with the LGO 2.3L Quad 4. Research it, that engine has alot of racing history. Pretty potent engine from the factory. With the right mods? Watch out.

Right on. And this is the concept test bed they did their trial runs in.

It holds a record top speed of 267.88 mhp. It's a 4 cyl engine at that, massive turbocharger, but still a 4. This could have taken on the X2010. PD and Sony are not the first ones to get this kind of speed from a concept car.

The Jay Leno tank car has to be the all-time king...

I got two of them as prize cars, and they have NO resale value...How does a car that cost 4.9 million USED have no resale value??

I realize PD likes their quirky, esoteric cars, but those WWII Volkswagens don't make a lot of sense to me...

Hehe, I appreciate this about PD. It makes the game a little different than others. This also reminds me of the random funny items in metal gear.

Yep, if it weren't for GT4, I wouldn't have known about the Ginetta. I've even looked into buying the real thing. I'm sure many people see this car as pointless, but I agree with the thought that no car is pointless -- even the Tank Car. One of my favorites is that little Toyota S800 Sports, with practically no horsepower.

So, it would be nice to see all the cars available in the UCD, but make the prize cars special, and better than the cars you need to win them. Like the Honda City Turbo -- maybe it's got a special place in the hearts of the Japanese, but it's a weak prize for winning a turbo race at the expert level.

Entered the Lupo Cup? You either had to have a Lupo Cup car, or you worked (and spent a lot of money) on a stock Lupo. So when you do win the Lupo Cup, enjoy your new, untuned Lupo! The Lupo itself isn't pointless, except as a prize for this race.

The cars in and off themselves may not be pointless, but I don't get why someone would put them in a game like Gran Turismo.
I mean, I can understand that people have different tastes and such, but a 2CV or the Kübelwagen, or the Schwimmwagen make absolutely no sense to me.

Driving around the 'Ring in just less than, what, 20 minutes isn't exactly what I deem fun or interesting, even if there's 15 other guys doing so alongside you. That's the kind of stuff that's nice to watch on Top Gear, but I don't want to do that myself. Just like I wouldn't want to drive a Citroen that's been turned into a caravan

I just can't bring myself to do that stuff. If I wanted that kind of 'racing' I could just take my mother's Smart Car out for a spin. While that kind of car has a point in real life, would I want one in GT? Hell no :D

I mean, it's great to see an oddbal car or two. It adds a little bit of flavour, but there would be so many cars that wouldn't have been just novelty items. I'd thinkt that 99% of people use cars like the Schwimmwagen once, maybe twice for the fun of it and let them rot in their garage afterwards... Putting other cars in their place would've been a better choice, in my opinion.

Especially considering that there's a lot of cars left as standards that have quite a racing history of some kind, or are missing from the game completely.

Whether the Schwimmwagen (vor example) has a point to be in the game or not, I think that a premium JZA80 Supra, E30 M3 or Foxbody Mustang would've been just a way better addition to the game's premium car lineup.

That's just my opinion, though.

I'm voting for the Jay Leno Tank Car completely pointless.

At least the tank car has some serious curiosity value. Cars like the prius, corsa comfort or the iMiev are just made out of 100% pure yawn and have no place in a game for car buffs.

The Corsa is a popular car where I live, so I guess PD added it because many people who own the car could try it out in game?

Yep sure is, its just a base model though. I bought it brand new in 2008 just for a daily driver. I have 2 other cars that are better haha. My baby is my 94 Z26 with the Quad 4.
Thanks for being honest & the LAWLS you've provided me for the entire day.

I actually had quite a blast throwing the Leno Tank Car round the ring... Though it was the high speed ring, not the Nürburgring! :D

I dont think there are really pointless cars in the game, its just that the guy who was responsible for choosing the prize cars and setting the resale values did a unbelievably horrible job. He needs to get fired asap. Saw his name in the long version of the end movie, couldnt even believe it was really somebodys job to set these things and he did it so bad.

Im part of a Beretta community, and theres a video on youtube of another member on there and his 92 Beretta GTZ with the Quad 4 beating a WRX.

The Quad-4 is indeed a great engine (Aerotech FTW!!!11), but if they put a Beretta in the game they'd have to change the name of "My Garage" to "My Trailer."

Exactly! A joke is over at some point and why do you need so many clown cars to have "fun"? Kübelwagen - haha funny, a Schwimmwagen too? Not so funny...

A VW Samba haha, a daihatsu midget hahaha oh look there is the newer version too hahaha, a tank car haha...

Lets face it the car list is alot of recycling even the premiums with race cars getting a different painting 5 times.

Pointless car(s)?

Any car that I can't use in singleplayer career (no practice, arcade, or online) is pretty pointless. They absolutely wasted the Ferrari F2007 and F10, since we can't use them in either A-Spec or B-Spec at all. There's no point in excluding them from A or B, either, since they allow us to use the Formula GT and even the X2010 in A and B-Spec.

There are no useless cars! You're on GTPlanet, pick whatever car you like and start up a time trial thread :)

That doesn't fix the fact that DP failed to make use of cars like the F2007 or F10 in the actual singleplayer career. We shouldn't have to compensate for poor judgment from the developers. We shouldn't have to create our own activities for cars, as they should simply be able to be raced somewhere in the normal game events. Heck, even something like the kart, which can't be used in A or B, can still at least be used in karting special events, which is at least something.

I'm not even going to try driving the Schwimmwagen around the Ring

That actually sounds amusing. I might do that. If so, I'll remove all the upgrades I put on it and take the sluggish, clunky thing around instead of my beastly version. Heck, I took the old 18-horsepower Fiat 500 around the Nurburgring; the long version that includes part of the GP circuit and with day/night and weather change. I think it took like 20 minutes to make one lap.

Honestly, I find the X2010 to be a pointless car. Sure it's cool and very fast, but I will stick with the real cars.

As long as we can use it in the actual game events, it isn't pointless. Not liking the car doesn't make it a pointless car. I'm not a Chevy fan, so does that make Chevies pointless? Of course not.

Why no Hyundai Genesis? I'm guessing most people poor enough to have to drive Hyundais can't afford a PS3. :P
(Minorly Offtopic) Why do you look down on people who drive Hyundais? Hyundais are now completely or nearly different from last time with the bestsellers Sonata, Tucson.. Design is completely different compared to previously. Just like Kia's design is so much better with the Forte.

I never drove my Jay Leno tank car but when my little brother was watching me pick a car for the next race he was like; "OMG!! what is that?? can I drive it?? please??" when I showed him the tank car... kids huh

Thanks for being honest & the LAWLS you've provided me for the entire day.

Laughs? Im guessing by your screen name you drive a honda civic? I guess their not bad cars, everybody has their flavor. The reason i never bought a civic was because i didnt want to have to mix oil with the gas everytime i went to the gas station. That would get old quick. Plus, them two cycle motors are just not for me.

FYI, i can afford better cars, but i save my money. Im guessing you live with your parents? I think i will stick with my 4 bedroom house, 3 car garage, and 2 car carport.... Thanks.

I wasnt suggesting that a Beretta should be in the game, i just used that as an example for the engines purpose. I would much rather see the aerotech in the game.

Its actually really fun to drive if you mod the thing into a (very old) beast. Just don't crash coz this thing accelerates from 0-30 in about a minute

Oh no..
I tuned it to the max and got a max speed around 160-170 :D

However it turned horribly, easily just... blew off the track. Guess the wind grabbed it (the weight was like 600-700kg)

Seeing Oldsmobiles at all in the game would be incredible. A lot of cars they made were quite advanced for their time. The game should have an Aerotech, a 1903 curved dash, a first-gen Toronado (I for one would love to see that cool rotating drum speedo in a cockpit view), and a '70 Hurst/Olds as to provide a good sampling of the best the brand had to offer. They do this with a lot of brands in the game, that's why you'll have a Mazda Carol 360, several RX-7s, and a 787b, among others. Sure the Carol's slow, but it's part of the brand's heritage and provides perspective and a different driving experience. If all you're concerned about is driving the fastest cars: you're not a true enthusiast, go back to Need For Speed.

To me all standard cars are pointless as I love driving in cockpit view. That's really the thing I enjoyed most in GT5 (and prologue too).

What I have gleaned from this thread is that people consider cars they do not personally use to be pointless. Narcissism is quite unattractive.
