Yes this is another proud acheivement in the many that GT has.
Now...
You can relax and watch some friends race
Makes a better and more complete GT Online Mode
but...
Would you really watch others race when the point of the game is for you to race?

...If you don't like it then don't use it. It's a nice feature and I'm going to enjoy it under certain circumstances. It will be great for championship races as well. People on here could watch GTPlanet events while they're happening live. Or if you're waiting for a friend to get online you can just watch a race. There's no harm in it and I think it's a great feature.
 
Well, uh, it's wierd that some one honestly replied to this without saying a word about the "Poll" problem that has occured.

I wanted to, really but now that this thread exists, can you watch online races in spectator mode or is it only possible in LAN? If it is online and LAN, than I'm all for it. This is probably part of your invisible poll? Yay or nay?

Oh man, I've been here 2 months and have 10 points (2 infractions). Ow.

I would always think that someone paying for GTPemium would have like a 40-Point limit. (Jeez, maybe I do need Premium....)

As an earlier post said, were the person stayed off the whole summer to re-collect himself, I could never do that! I'm on this site too much to just stop.

And if Jordan ever turns GTPlanet into hardcore-pornography, well you can bet I'll never be back here.

Now I'm gonna stop before I get another infraction.....yeah right.

From now on, I'm going to stick to the GT Forums....I've never gotten into trouble there. Well, once. And that was for a early swearing issue in my own thread. Maybe I forgot to read the AUP. Going to do that. Now.

Having used spectactor mode on other racing games I feel this really adds to the game. Sometimes it's just nice to sit back have a cup of tea & smoke and watch your friends or strangers race online.

For me useless feature like 3d and head tracking. They wasted time on this stupid things instead than fully modeled cars.

Haha, these small features I bet took little to no time at all to include. Making the 800 standard cars premium would take about 10 years. ;)
 
Let me explain why I'd love the have spectator mode, online and LAN.

Like I've said many times, I'm a graphics nut. When I use to play Gran Tursimo, I liked to watch the replays. Not only for analysing how I drove but also just to watch the marve(l)lous graphics. It can be boring at times because I'm mostly only interesting in hotlapping.

Spectator mode can be 'not' boring, :crazy: as you can see what your friends, in case of a LAN or if it's possible to watch your friends in a private lobby, are doing, who's winning etc... , while they are present at the LAN, sitting besides you. It's kind of a social thing.

If PD should make it possible to watch LAN's online in spectator mode, we can watch the UKGTP and SPGTP live. Imagine what this could do for GTP!

It would also be nice to be able to chat with the drivers when you're watching an online race in a private lobby.
 
Boring unwanted, unnecessary, pathetic feature. Just a glorified replay really. So I tick NO on the poll. I don't like it and won't use it. car, race, money.. that's it and replay if I like what I did.

I don't think that room (as in disk space) is a problem in this game. And I don't think that putting in the spectator mode is worth the same amount of work as 1 premium car, not even slightly.

It makes no difference on how many cars are modelled. There are 40 car modellers and all they do is model cars. All these other features have absolutely nothing to do with them and are done by other employees who are not involved in car modelling.

I kind of agree with you in regard to 3D. I will not benefit from it, but I am really looking forward to head tracking, that is a brilliant feature! 👍

Aren't 200 premium cars enough? Throughout the whole of the GT franchise, I have never driven more than 50 or 60 cars constantly per game. So, I am comfortable with the fact that I will have the choice of over 200 hundred premium cars.
 
I think this will play a large role in endurance races.
Now you can have someone watch the other competitors for you. It looks so far to be similar to the B-Spec mode in GT4. You and your crew chief can make decisions on strategy based on track conditions, weather, and the competition. Fuel, tires, pit stops, crashes, etc, etc.

Kaz did mention during the 2009 TGS with that feature 'slide'.....'Team Builder'

Hmmmm, Team Builder and Spectator Mode? Sounds to me another part of the features puzzle has been solved. Online driver changes, hmmmm who's for it? 👍

Spectator mode is a great feature. It would be very valuable for a driving school. You could have an instructor watch you while your driving and then switch and have you watch the instructor.

BUT, you guys are missing what may be the biggest benefit of spectator mode. Having a spectator mode is the biggest technical limitation with having in race driver switches. That is the key missing feature for having endurance races. I would love to be able to do a proper 12hour endurance race with proper driver changes. With spectator mode working, PD just needs to implement a way to switch a spectator for a driver. It would be easy to make that a pit stop option. I hope PD has thought of that.

Those who want to watch their friends race online can use the online spectator mode that you can check out in the video below. The mode basically looks like Gran Turimo 5’s replay system, just showing real-time racing instead of recorded footage.

This has also crossed my mind as possibly the biggest element making this spectator mode relevant to me.
It would be a nice addition I guess if it only were a passive online spectacle for those who simply want to watch other players race once in a while ( and I'm sure I will use it for that a few times ) but the main thing a game offers to me over real life is participating in races myself.
If I want to watch a race, I'll have plenty of choice watching real life races both being there as watching it on telly or online.
Racing in real life however isn't an option for me but I suppose a passive only spectator mode could be fun sometimes, the biggest advantage may be that all those punters, cheaters and crash test dummies might adapt their behaviour in the knowledge of having 16 people watching every move they make.:)
 
Spectator mode is a good idea you could watch a few races take note of the clean drivers names then organise a race.
 
It a good addition to the game, and it's the one feature that PD didn't have to spend months developing.:)
 
Spectator mode looks like live replays... which is better to have than not I supose... I wish they had done something to make it a litte more spectatorly like specific camera angles a little further from the action so you can watch the racing unfold with fewer distracting cuts and angle changes.

Maybe even a free control camera that can fly around and make your own custom view point?
