Nürburgring Nordschleife - Love or Hate?

Love it but hate players that race on this track only, especially using racing tires and they feel like PRO's 'cause they race on the Nürburgring only... And they go like "meh" when the track is changed.
 
The Nordschleife is amazing, but i don't like the F1 circuit.

I love this track. Racing this track in 3D at night -- in the rain.... I know of no other racing game that offers this experience.
 
I hated this track back in GT4 because I never really learned it :lol: Then GT5 came with the Nurburgring special event that goes through sector by sector and only then 'till I really fell in love in this track.
 
My favorite hot lapping track. Been running bone stock Super Cars on Sports Hards lately. Love the Gallardo and McLaren MP14 on it. Awesome!
 
The Nürburgring is a lovely track; one of my favorites. I don't understand that 74 people (as of 7/30/13) don't like it.
 
One of-no, THE best track in the game. I've run nearly 200 laps around the Nordschelife. Forward and backward. Running the course in the reverse direction adds a bit more of a challenge to it for me. My favorite section is from Hohe Acht to Galgenkopf. It always seems like I pick up tins of speed in that section, no matter how I'm driving. I've caught 700 bhp cars with 300 hp. Even outran a RX-8 in a MX-5
 
I love it i feel i'm a bit of a master at the nurburgring people that know who I am will know this what I have found is people that don't like a challenge don't like this track.
 
Also iv done over 10,000 laps at the nurburgring since the game came out

I also find it amusing to see Nurb rooms called "Pro Only" or some such nonsense, then find everyone running around with racing slicks on and 500pp and every car is stuck to the track like glue. At 500 PP "pros" would be on Sports Hards at best and that's something you rarely see at the Nurb.
 
It's the perfect place to test drive. On the other hand, competitive racing is not fun. Way too intense unless your car blows away the competition. Especially on 1-lap dashes.
 
The track itself is... okay. It’s interesting and challenging but overrated, overused, and too long.

It has a lot of variety, but it’s hard to learn (a lot of blind corners) and punishes you harshly for mistakes (drops you off somewhere in France if you overshoot the turn), whether your own mistakes or someone else’s who ran into you.
Neither of these things actually make the track better. A track that’s easy to learn still has to be driven well, and one that has walls still has to be driven well, in order to win. Both of these things can be gotten without changing the actual layout, without sacrificing challenge; Schwedenkreuz would be no less nerve-wracking, would demand no less driver skill to get through swiftly, and would reward driver skill just as well.

By analogy: a downhill section is easy to accelerate on and thus more fun to actually drive on, but you still have to be faster to win a race down it, therefore it’s still just as challenging, without sacrificing fun. The Nordschleife is like an uphill section: slower, less fun, but without offering anything more in exchange, besides elitism.

It’s also very, very long. Time spent learning the Nordschleife is less fruitful and prepares you less for the track than the same amount of time spent on, say, Grand Valley Speedway. By the time you can take the Karussell a second time, you could’ve taken the Corkscrew a dozen times. By the time you’re perfecting your driving line in Côte d’Azur, you’re still trying to remember what’s coming up next on the Nordschleife, let alone how to approach it well. By the time you master the Nordschleife, you could have mastered half the other tracks in the game, and thus had a much greater amount and variety of track at your command.

The Nordschleife is like a Course Maker track in some ways. It has many organic features that a more “geometric” course wouldn’t have (not-quite-straight straights, unusual slopes, etc), which adds a lot of variety and makes it interesting; that’s one of its best traits, I think. It also seems rather random, which is fitting, given that it’s basically some German back-roads with rumble strips added.

I have a long (nearly 8 km) Course Maker track I made early on, which I still often drive on, and know my way around well. Like all Course Maker tracks, it’s randomly generated, and I could have been driving on, getting to know, and naming the corners of a very different track if I had clicked on “Course Maker” a second earlier or later that day. But the one I got is the one I know.

And if some other German back-road had been given rumble strips, then that one could be the subject of this poll, its quirky corners would be the stuff of legend, some would say The Stig’s left nipple is shaped like that course, people would be cursing Hermann Tilke’s name for redesigning its start area, people could have spent countless hours and laps learning its ways, people could be singing its praises as the Best Track Ever.
Because that’s the one people would have gotten to know, and invested their emotions and talents in. And they wouldn’t look twice at some mountain road around Nürburg.

That investment is what this poll is really about, I think.
 
It is a fun track but, I do not enjoy racing on it. The track is too narrow and fast, though it is great for hot laps and tuning.

I agree with you, but still the Nordschleife requires more concentration and focus on the layout. In order to lap it quick, you need to know it. And as Hans - Joachim Stuck once said "If you're losing your focus once on this track, it will backfire."
And it is true. And that what makes it the most thrilling track on the face of this earth.

I don't really know you, nor do I know how you define "fun", but I find it to be very satisfying, and therefor fun to master and conquer the 'Ring than any other track. It requires a huge set of balls and skill to master a "uphill" section, than a "downhill" section. Again, the Nordschleife isn't just a track you go on, because you want to have "fun", you want to be challenged. And the adreneline rush you're getting while driving over it, is just the most intense thing you can really experience. Especially in a slow car, you're driving hard at 110mph onto Schwedenkreuz, which is btw such an easy turn, and GT3 's and M3's are blasting by you with 155mph, but you still enjoy it. I know, I'm drifting more and more onto "the real world", but I'm just trying to explain to you, how awesome this track is.
It's just challenging you, as a driver. The length, the blind turns, the "weird" layout. All of that requires you to be focused on the track, on the racing if you will.

If you want to have fun, you're free to drive on tracks like Laguna Seca, Fuji Speedway or whatever. I'm not saying, that these tracks are easy, but I'm saying that these tracks allow mistakes, while the Nordschleife doesn't.

I invited you over to the streets around the Nordschleife, I think you'll quickly agree, that these streets are as challenging as the Nordschleife. :)

and i'm ok with that.
 
I love the Nürburgring. It's a really fun track to race on. I practice run my cars around the track for the hell of it.

Sounds like you've had some bad times at the ring and I pretty much disagree with 100% of your post.

It really isn't "just some German backroad with curbs" and it cannot be compared with any other track, especially a coursmaker track.

Eh? Its great. Very technical and faster than you'd expect.
Each to their own.

I love it, great track to learn and very rewarding. I don't find passing people an issue (knowing where and when to pass is key), its the staying in front that's hard.
Nothing like being behind someone and piling on the pressure till they spin off or make a mistake.

The Ring is King. Long live the King.

I really love the track, even got the change to drive it in real life a few times, even got some real life lap times there :-)
 
I just started to love this map. Ive gotten up to the carousel memorized but after that its just a bunch of randomness. It really does have a quick rhythem and you always need to be paying attention

Love it with all my heart!. Awesome track for time tril laps, not so good for compition raceing for there is not enough room for passing.

I like to drive on the Nurburgring when it's sunrise. Looks really nice.
 
I love to drive on 'Schleife offline, but I don't like it online, because it's probably the most common track in online lobbies. :D

I find it a bit too long and narrow. Also i sometimes feel more like a passenger in my car then that i am actualy in control. Especialy the last section i am a little slow in.
 
I love just going for a drive on this track if have a few minutes to burn, or I want to get to know a particular car. But as for racing, I think it's a little to narrow to race cleanly on. It's not impossible, but I get so impatient behind AI, that I try to overtake, and get wiped off the track.
