On a scale of 1-10 I would give Gran Turismo 5 a . . .

Likewise so are the people rating it 9.5 - 10. Because to claim this game was perfect or very near perfect is ridiculous.

Indeed, unless they have unusual requirements for the perfect racing game which GT5 happens to fit! I'd say the realistic rating range is 4/4.5 - 9/9.5.

This game consumes three to four hours of my life every night. No other game has ever even come close.
I can only give it a 9.5 though because I have no side view mirrors.

I still stand by my score of 5.5 - 6. After owning it so long, the only things I can say about this game that is worthwhile are the premium cars, Nurburgring, and Spa. The rest of the game is just a hollow shell. GT5 just tries to focus on too much and as a result much of the game is shallow. It's also inconsistent and filled with bizarre design decisions. The updates have been nice, but the game still goes back to being dull after a week. The fun I had with GT1-GT4 isn't here in GT5. I have been playing GT2 lately and it's sadly more enjoyable than this game.

👍 But I'd lower the score to just 5.

Maybe the game isn't, but ones viewpoint of perfection may be just what they wanted. :) I don't think that makes any sense...

As far as content, variety, gameplay goes it is miles ahead of the competition

No offence but you clearly don't play any other racing games.

GT5 has never been even close to matching the top racing games in terms of variety and content. Nowhere near!

I gave it a 6.5-7.0.

Aside from the online mode, I think very little ground was broken with GT5. A higher score from me would have come with:

1. Less clunky and sluggish menu navigation (leave out the annoying oil change/paint shop animations - they're a waste of time)
2. More intelligent and relevant selection of cars (particularly premium models. There should have been more real-world production cars like most people are actually buying all over the world)
3. More reliable online racing system, including an actual qualifying session
4. More realistic car sounds and relative engine volume levels (including gear change and turbo noises...and the 787B will deafen you in real life, so it should be louder in the game. AND A RACE-TUNED V8 SHOULD BLOODY WELL SOUND LIKE A V8!!!!! cough*corvette RM*cough)
5. Oh yeah - crowds of thousands will not gather just to watch a few s***boxes race. They will certainly not cheer and clap (Woo-WOOO! Yeahhhh...YE-AH!!! XD) like North Koreans even when there's nothing to watch. It's daft. Spectator numbers/activity should have been made more realistic.

Enough from me. A good game, though not truly great.

I give it a 6 (and that's way too much for it). It was released with a hell of problems, more occurred after released, it is way too much Japanese biased and it has the worst and most uneven user interface ever in a game.

at launch 6.
now I would give it 6.5.

It's simply an unremarkable rehash of previous games but with some of the best bits removed. Sure its been updated but the reliance it has on GT4 cars and tracks suggests that it could be argued to be little more than a massive GT4 update. Aside from that it had one of the very worst online experience of any game i've ever played.

Solid 8. Simplified + and - list:

Love the handling and attention to detail in most cases. Dynamic weather and time cycle is amazing, but of course it would be lovely to have this feature in every, or at least on most tracks.

Hate the standards, slow AI and sounds in general (well not the music, it's GT series trademark ;)).

Gran Turismo gamer since GT2, best one being the fourth. I certainly don't hate GT5 but as we all know, it could have been much better. Let's see what PD does with the sixth one.

I rated it between a 8.0 and 8.5. I would have given it a higher rating but AI is lacking and online needs work. Still a solid game which i have played regularly since launch.

A very generous 6 out of 10. Multiplayer and photomode saves it for me. Everything else is pretty much avarage or subpar. It lacks the fun factor and longevity of previous games. Worst installment in the franchise, so far.

In my opinion: 10 out of 10.
I love it!!!

So what would you give gt6 if it's also on ps3 and features better car sounds, twice as many tracks, twice as many cars, no standard cars, a livery/paint editor, better AI, miles more customization, weather and night on all tracks, better A-spec longevity etc, etc. ??

Alot of people would give it good old bashing on websites like this because their favorite car did not shoot bolts of lightning out the exhuast pipes or have the wheels they doodled in the back of their note book

9 - GT5 is a fantastic racing game, the reason everyone moans about it so much is because it seems to refuse to simply step over the line that would make it unbelievablely good, its so close that its frustrating to most people who play it a lot, but still Forza pails in comparison in my opinion making GT5 by far the best console racer.

So why are you not playing this fantastic game? Oh right, it doesn't exist.

If they would just fix the engine sounds and the slow menus and get rid of the constant auto saving it would be a 10/10 for me. I have played GT5 far more than any game ever in my life and I'm 26, it's been almost 2 years since it's release and and I still play a few days a week, it's pretty much the only game I've played for the last 6 months, not even GTA stayed fun that long. Once GTA 5 comes out that might finally end my GT5 addiction. So just for sheer play time I have gotten out of GT5 I guess I can't complain too much.

Doesn't make sense.

Giving GT5 10/10 implies it cannot be improved and is as good as it'll get. Read my post again.

That's true, but giving it 5-6/10 because some imaginery game would be so much better doesn't make sense either. It's a reason for me to give it 9 - 9.5 since it can be improved, but still it's the best car-related game.

The imaginary game you mention already exists, but i'm afraid you'll have to buy another console.
