I recently started to clean my garage from similar, same or Stage engine/weight tuned cars and did oil change marathon to my 500 standard cars (took me 2 weeks).

Recently it come to my mind that I love to drive standard cars more than premium, don't know why actually.. I think its because of the old school looks and driving pleasure with no assists with soft old school suspension in cars like Jaguar E-type, old Mercedes, BMW's, Japan FR cars, small English super cars, old American muscle cars and some very historically important models available only standard.

So I just want to see what GTP users use mostly and why! 👍

I simply cant imagine future GT series without standard cars, and I cant understand how PD make them premium, if they need so much time to create one car. For me it seems they will get rid of most standard cars and that would be horrible thing to do. Its just my speculation and thoughts nothing more.

PS. I do know that there are some very good premium models, I like them also, but majority of them are brand new modern age cars. Also very good cars.

I prefer driving in cockpit view for the realism so I like the much higher detail in the premiums. I agree however, that there are some very fine cars to drive that are standard. If the choice was to keep tham as standard or drop them I prefer that they remain.

I have no real preference over standard to premium or vice versa. I race in bumper cam, so interior view doesn't concern me.

Standard for me. I like standard because I find it fun looking for those rare cars in the UCD or OCD. I also like it because it reminds me when I used to play GT2, GT3, and GT4. Collecting the cars is what I mostly like. The old Jags, concept cars, old super cars, old classic rally cars, touring cars, road cars, and Le Mans race cars. Also I like those special edition cars such as the 25th Anniversary Countach, the M3 GTR and CSL, etc.

I completely agree. I see a lot of people saying that the next GT should have NO standards and fewer cars. That would be terrible.

Sure, I would rather a premium model over a standard, but GT5 would be much worse of a game if it didn't have, albeit lower resolution, Chaparrals, Plymouths, TVRs, Ginetta and so forth.

Standards don't bother me really. Only thing I dislike is the way they are sold.

If half of the standard rally cars and most of the race cars were premium I would have said scrap the standards...
But the standard cars have pretty much the most historical cars...

I'm not sure if I could pick between Standard and Premium if you are going for what the cars are like themselves since you can get some historical models that are premium.

but there is a mixture of old school and new cars in premium section but to be honest i prefer to use old cars

Look better. Generally more fun. Especially muscle cars. Who doesn't love making them burn out?

I would much rather have a smaller, more diverse selection of good cars, than a colossal collection containing minutely different (yet ultimately identical) cars which the current game has. There's really no need to have 'X' amount of version of the same model car just because it came out a year later, or had a different indicator lens, or a slightly different wing, continental variation, or even a special colour. (Don't even get me started on hybrids, electrics and WWII vehicles!)

Streamlining the cars list would also give much better scope for additional content that is actually worthwhile. Just give me the best of the Skylines of each generation, one model of each facelift MX5, RX7 etc, etc, etc and then detail them beyond the levels that all the other games developers seem to be capable of in, what are considered to be, less sim-like games. (NFS series)

Sorry, I meant to say, I mostly drive standards because most of the good cars are in there.

Cant drive 4/5 of the LMP cars in this game unless there standard. So yes, standards got my vote.

Standard cars have a lot more racing cars. Like the Mclaren and Mercedes GT1 cars.

'69 GT40 race car with the 5.0. If that goes premium, it will become a skin of the Ford GT albeit a different engine sound. And the Nissan Skyline HT 2000 GT-R KPGC110, and the Mitsubishi Lan Evo I-III. Oh, and the Chrysler Prowler.

That's right, The Prowler. My favorite semi-open wheel roadster, with a V6.

9 times out of 10 the standard version of a car is faster than the Premium version.

Change wheels and re-spraying any standard makes a massive difference to the way they look too!

lol wut?

gtr r34
viper gts
civic type r
integra type r
nsx type r

i could go on.

but i digress

the majority of the fastest cars in the game are standard, as there are way more standard race cars

most of the cars i use regularly are standard. almost all of them. the coolest cars in this game are standard in my opinion

He might be thinking of the "Ford GT no stripe" v "Ford GT Premium" issue.

I've got no problem with driving either, and some of my favourites are standards (Saleen S7, Holden Monaro, Tickford XR8 Supercar etc).

well I know, but the count of them is very small actually, and yes I do like Premiums as much.

The point of the poll was to separate the reason what cars you use mostly and why.. in my case I go to Standard section 80% of the time.
I just never did see this kind of poll, this should show us what what is the real reason we go one, instead over another.

I know. The OP assumes all premium cars are modern and all standards are old.

well, but you have to agree, that 99% of standards are 2005 and older. Mostly even 2000 and older. And I did explain about Premiums at the bottom of the thread's 1st post. I like those Premium old school cars, but the count is very limited.

I dont want to separate here anything or tell whats the best to use or anything.. Poll results will show what we use mostly and why. 👍

This far people prefer Standard:

Standard - they are more of my childhood dream cars.
Standard - they have more historically important models available.
Standard - there is many good, old, cheap and fun to drive cars.

I agree completely. What I was saying is that if they removed standards, chances are at least some of the historical models wouldn't be modelled for premium. That's why I would rather keep standards. Premium is better, but standard is better than none at all.

To me there is no real difference in standard and premium. I have favorites in both classes. Any argument to drop some standards is specious because they are already done and there is no space limitation on the number of cars in the game.

When racing online I rarely use cockpit view because there is so little view. If I had a 3 or 5 monitor set up I might change my mind.

Also when racing online I pick a car for more than just top speed or HP. Sometimes the standard is the better car and sometimes it's the premium. The Ford GT is a good example when racing longer distances with tire wear on.

to hard to say either way.. Love cock-pit view, but also loce the choices that you find in standard cars

i second this, my standard garage has most of all my fave cars from previous gts. i can deal with the cheap interior cam, doesnt bother me at all. Although theres one i wish pd did add, the s14 silvia lm race car from gt1.

Everyone uses premium cars. Or the well known standard ones.
I like to be the underdog and take a car that istnt realy known to compete in the race your in.

Like 500pp racing , everyone uses premium NSX and M3's or some csl (standard).
Then i try beating that with a olmost unused car in that range pp.
Its fun tuning a SKYLINE GTS-R (R31) '87 to stay in a m3's ass.

Old banger :D
or a Dodge Charger Super Bee 426 Hemi '71

beating M5's whit a Monaro cv8 is fun to

I love driving standards, I find them more fun to drive, because I remember when I got them in previous games, like the Toyota TS020, BMW V12 LMR, Panoz, etc.
In fact I'm doing the 24H Le Mans race with the BMW V12 LMR, and I find the race very easy because I was very used to play GT4 endurance races with this car...

I love standard because I'm very used to play with those fu*peep*rs
