Replying to the OP's question, it isn't fun driving a way underpowered car, and knowing that you are going to win against the AI anyway. It's much better to save time by driving an equally matched car IMHO.

But all of us (at least most of us) are better drivers than the AI. So if you use the same car, you automatically guaranteed a win... Not better IMO :)

I would but it's hard to find a balance. It seems that in order to risk losing, I need to pick a car which is much more underpowered than my opponents, but then I'd probably never stand a chance. Of course, choose a car of equal power and I normally trounce the field within a lap, meaning the rest of the race is just a lap counting session....

If I'm doing the enduro the first time, then no risk needed, activate Defcon 5.

If not, then I would take the Vertigo Race car to the 24hr of Le mans just to see where I can finish.

I would on subsequent attempts if I've already cleared it. But only the really short ones(< 2 hours) in a car I really enjoy driving. Otherwise, it's just not worth it.

GT5 needs a series of races in between Extreme and Endurance, that lasts anywhere between ~45-90 minutes. Just long enough for pit strategy to come into play. This would be the sweet spot in terms of race length for me.

Exactly, game drops off content wise once you hit endurance, why isn't there more races in between extreme and endurance? seems to be a gap there.

Those endurance races are so predictable once you're able to run consistent laps. The AI may be slow, but their laptimes with a given state of the tires (and if they don't have to overtake etc.) are always roughly the same. There is no random element, the only exception is rain, but this is in your favor and can only happen in 3 of the endurance races, 2 of them being 24h.

So if you can do consistent laps, you can figure out who will win in the end - even in a 24h race. The only exception would be to choose a too slow car and hope for rain. Lucky OP, must have been a nice race...

I dont know how you guys can say that formula GT is easy, i find it completely impossible every time i go for an overtake i get taken out and then end up 20 seconds behind...

I try to use a car that's slower than the fastest AI car and I aim for a less than 30 seconds win at the most.

I'd much rather lose a race than win by more than a lap.

I love endurance racing but I'll only do it if I have to drive really hard to earn the win.

I would risk it only in races that are time limited.
In the races i can finish earlier because of faster car, i would go on other option.

Re-map your controller so that you cannot pause the race. Then things become more interesting, especially on the longer races.

Back in the GT4 days I always used an over powered car because I was running the events for money. A few years ago, through out Forza 2 and Forza 3, I started using an underpowered car because I got bored of dominating these long races. At the end of the day, the fun is in the challenge, for me anyway.

For me, overpowered car on first attempt, especially B-Spec where it's the X2010 all the way, A-Spec i've only done perhaps 4 endurances so far and they were better matched cars, but still ones that got me a reasonably comfortable win

I would try a less competitive car on perhaps a second attempt but 1. It's hard enough to find that balance in a "normal" length race let alone an endurance, where any advantage or disadvantage "stretches" more and more and 2. Will I run those races again? Probably not.

But different strokes for different folks! I think getting a really good race is so often down to luck.

GT4 was much harder than GT5, the Licenses for example.

I'm just asking why some games are so easy. I've played through Call of Duty & Halo (all of them) on Recruit in order to catch up on achievements (on my 360) that I've missed during my runs on Veteran / Legendary - and man, it's so easy.

You can literally run towards enemies while reloading and survive. So many games are like that nowadays, where has "Nintendo-hard" gone?

Shame that PD adapted something similar to GT5. :(

In the 4 hour Miata race, I entered a car with only a few basic mods. I would have lost the race if the leader had not got stuck behind some traffic near the end. I ended up winning by 13 seconds. It was definitely a fun experience.

The other two races though, I won easily. Used the TT Touring Car for the 300 Km event and the Ford Falcon race car (fun car to drive BTW) for the 200 miler. These were less fun, but still enjoyable even though I lapped the field multiple times.

So, for me, it just depends on the mood I'm in.

I totally would race with the possibility of losing. That's the entire point of racing.

When I first raced the Grand Valley 300KM I tried it in an RX-7 with an upgraded computer and "sports" air filter. I lost by 23 seconds because I was beating the tires up way to much. Then a week later I raced it again with a Subaru WRX STI '10 with an oil change, upgraded "sports" filter, upgraded computer and sport springs and won by 11 seconds.

What would be the point of doing a race you can't loose? Just to tick off some checkbox?
If I'm going to spend several hours on one race I want to be entertained or won't bother at all...

I'm not any FPS fan at all, so I'm rubbish when it comes to Call Of Duty.
But my friend accidentally play Call Of Duty World At War on my user, so it ended up with 1% trophies.
It didn't look nice so I ended up buying the game and getting 100% trophies.
I repeat, I am in no way an FPS fan.

I took a 96 lotus Elise RM to the Laguna Seca 200 race. Easiest win ever. 600 some kgs with 254 hp beating out 500hp muscle cars. Not too unbelievable since they weight so much.

I really tried to make the Roadster Challenge a close race, and for the most part I created a car that was pretty much equal to the lead car as I only had a 1 second advantage until about lap 70. But then I found out the AI never pits until it runs out of fuel (at around lap 120). Because I pit earlier to replace my sliding sports-medium tires, I easily gained tons of ground because the AI refused to pit even though they were struggling around turns.

My attempts to get good racing in A-Spec has failed miserably so far, and it makes me sad. I know I'm a decent driver, but as much as I try to give the AI advantages, I have yet to lose to them (except on FGT where I can hardly drive the car in the rain).

OCD much?

YES

I did the INDY 500 with a pescarolo Judd C60 Race Car (stock) and it was tight pretty much the whole race, I was in the lead by less then a half lap during the first 20 rounds or something but felt often down to 6-8-12th becouse my tyres couldnt keep it up with them, by the last lap my fuel tank was empty in the last corner and I was in the lead with just a short lap and he was catching up lol saved the replay

Cant wait til the 1000km guess I'll be racing a stock GT300

No I wouldn't risk it for the simple fact that I find any race over 2 hours extremly boring. The only reason I do them is because you have to in order to complete the game.

I tried last night. I did the 4 Hour Nurburgring Endurance in my TVR Tuscan RM. Only 400hp compared to the Amuse S2000 with over 600hp. It was pretty close for the first stint, I made a mistake and was 6 seconds behind for nearly two laps. We pitted together at the end of lap four and that's where the problem started. I still had over half my fuel tank full so only put in a couple of litres just to make sure, he spent 30 seconds longer in the pits, persumably filling his tank back to the brim.

I thought ok I'll make it interesting, I'll stop and let him catch up and we had another good four laps racing, again I made an error and I made my next stop at the end of lap eight, just a little bit ahead. To my surprise, he didn't stop, he kept going. I thought ok, I can have fun catching him. How I was wrong, the S2000's tyres were obviously shot and I caught him easily, powersliding all over the place and by the time he pitted at the end of 9 I was nearly two minutes ahead.

The same thing happened throughout the race, four good laps then the AI would do another lap on worn tyres and lose two minutes to me. I even tried doing two stints on sports soft rather than racing soft which was about 30s a lap slower but the fact he kept losing so much time on that fifth lap and then extra time filling the car up each stop made it near impossible to lose.

So it seems thanks to the stupid AI pit strategy it's pretty hard to risk losing a race unless you bring something really underpowered.

The only endurance I'd gladly risk to lose is the Nürburgring 4 Hr, which I already did 4 times (lose, not risk :D)

I will only risk it in A spec, since I prefer to be driving in a close race. But definitely not in B spec. The worse thing to see is Bob being way behind after 3 and a half hours and he isn't capable to catch up.

The only endurance races I wouldn't risk losing are the 24 hour races.

Why in the world would you do a set time event with a X2010? I used an elise 96 RM for Tsukuba 9 hrs and it was overpowered. I did the nurburgring 4hr with an elise 111RM. It was an absolute joy to drive, but since the Amuse GT1 Turbo didn't show up, it was way overpowered. I suppose you could also keep some comfort hards to drive on when you are winning by 5 laps and bored.
