Gran Turismo sound has improved greatly but still needs a significant step to be up there with the best.
I use the onboard cam for my racing, so sound detail (especially for race cars) is important for me. Makes the longer races more enjoyable for me

If you read the article the onboard sounds are muffled deliberately and calibrated accurately to each car as they would be by the materials in the car. Louder sounds might be more appealing, but for GT7 its about subtle details. Louder is better is just your subjective take...
 
I'm glad that the car sounds are getting better and better, but the team still needs some work with the overall sound volume balance and quality. The Sprinter Trueno lost its speed chime in the cockpit view after one of the updates. The Lancia Stratos is for some reason the loudest car in the game, louder than the F1 cars, with an ugly, ear-bleeding buzzing noise, while the new Aston Martin Vantage is as quiet as a Prius.
