So They claim its the most powerfull under 30k USD. I checked and its got around 360hp... where can we compare this car? Faster than a Gti? How about a Sti?

This sounds like an amazing car, coming from a company I don't like, and I don't like that! lol

Way faster, theres a drag strip run video of 13.1, let me look....

EDIT: it was 13.1 with a tune, 13.3 stock

It's a heavy pig compared to what I thought it would be. But sound like it'll make a great powerful sedan, that's fun to drive.

But I'd rather have my TA anyday.

I don't know much about a GTi but I'm pretty sure it ain't even close to what the G8 is running. STI slower too I believe.

It's the perfect car for someone with a family, but still wants to have a car that's fun to drive. I too, would rather have my T/A, but if I was 15-20 years older, I could see myself owning one.

And that's 360 hp on regular 87 octane. Altering the ECM's fuel and spark curves to burn premium would probably yield another 40 or so horsepower.

The GTI isn't a fast car. It doesn't come close to the horsepower or acceleration of the G8 GT. The better comparison there would be the Mazdaspeed3, which is still down on power.

The STi starts at $35k so it doesn't belong in the "most power under $30K" competition.

Lets see... The Pontiac G8...

The G8 is one of the fastest full-size cars available on the North American market today, and given its credible performance figures and low-low, price it really only has one major competitor: The Dodge Charger R/T.

In terms of performance, the G8 isn't too far behind the SRT-8 version of the same Charger, and furthermore, it will happily run with a BMW 535i or Mercedes E350 without issue. Hell, maybe even the E550?

Its a damn-good car, a performance bargain in the segment. The only real competition in my mind is the Cadillac CTS thats available across the street. Its a little more expensive, a little smaller, but offers up a lot more driving satisfaction with the FE3 suspension choice.

...That is, until the GXP version of the G8 shows up...

I would say the Pontiac G8 is a far better car than the CTS by default simply because some of the silly things Cadillac felt the need to do with the car (it weighs as much as a 7 series, at 5-series size, for 3-series price!) when producing it. Give the G8 the LLT V6, and Cadillac has no chance.
That being said, I still would rather have a Charger. Or, better yet, a G8 with a Charger body.

Definately the fastest sedan under 30,000.

Now I wait for a Firebird, a Fiero and a G8 sport truck ala El Camino

The Falcon is the only car in the world I can think of that competes, and if the new FG reviews are anything to go by it may just beat the Commodore :(

I should hope so. The G8 has a 361Hp V8 while the 535i has a turbocharged inline-6 with only 300Bhp, and the E350 with a little 268Bhp V6. Of course, the mere fact that you're including a G8 with a 535i & E350 in the same sentence is a bit of laugh.

The G8 is compared next to the 550i for a reason. Here's the clue. What type of cars are these, and what type of cars are the 535i & the E350?

Hey now, I'm not the one who stacked it up against them... Go talk to the editors at all of those print/online magazines.

For $32K fully-loaded, its an absolute steal. I don't think they'll have a hard time selling every single one that comes to the US.

As far as I've seen they've been stacking it up against the 550i, not the 535i, and I haven't seen any comparing it to Mercedes.

It is a steal, but like some on this board, it just disappointed me when I finally saw it.

In the right color its a shockingly nice car, but even when I saw it in white, I have to share a bit of the same "loss of enthusiasm." That being said, short of the CTS it has the best interior in any GM car sold in North America, and if the drive is as good as they say, it may as well be one of the best handling cars in its class.

Too bad we're stuck only with the FE2 suspension setup. Apparently they offer something a bit more sport-oriented down in Oz (presumably the SS-V?).

i find it laughable that the V6 german sedans are being compared to the V8 american sedan, one that i believe is going to have a V6 base model.

i realise that the cost is much higher, but then again, if youre trying to compare on cost, shouldnt you be comparing it against the base model 3 series and C class.

it will make a gti look stupid for trying. A scooby or evo will scoot past it in first gear, and then watch it catch up, and pass them. This, assuming there is no deusche-bag option located in drivers seat.
consider it a GTO, with a different name, a little less power and weight, but better looks.
it's no T/A or camaro

My interest is peaked with this G8 Sport Truck. Only thing I'd be worried about is space behind the seats. Needs a little storage back there.

the gt starts at 29,995. can it really come fully loaded for 32? i find that hard to believe. anyway, if these had been out for a while i would definitely look to buy a used one. i love the styling. but 30+ is pushin it for me right now and im gettin real impatient waiting for all these cars that WILL be out. im very close to just going out and getting a 07 350Z.

Fully loaded, every option, I think the MSRP sits at something like $32,700. Thats with the big-ass moon roof, special leather, and the big wheel/tire combination under the "sport package" listing. Honestly, I'm not sure why that would be "expensive" given that a similarly-equipped Dodge Charger R/T (or Chrysler 300C) would be thousands of dollars more...

And 350Z FTL... You know you want to be cool and get a Mustang GT.

(well, that or a R32. Your pick...)

Ahh ok. Really? Last time I was at the local dealer they were about 32K but that's still above 30k so it doesn't matter.

On topic I was at my pontiac dealer the other day getting some parts and they happened to have a G8, and it looks great in person. It was a white one, I wish I had the money to get one. It seemed like an awsome car to have.

Oh yea and they said nobody was allowed to test drive it, only way to drive it was to buy it.
