It's looking a bit like a 911 now than a Cayman, imo. The current Cayman's rear body lines extend to the back, but the rear window still indents itself downwards.

In the 2013, the rear window appears to actually flow with the body lines & seems to be longer as well. Of course, the car still looks good & I'm anxious to see how it looks at the presentation.

I sort've think the Cayman has been looking better with each facelift and I feel this is the best looking one yet. Weird how its gone from what I thought was sort've underwhelming to something really cool.

I liked the Cayman for its slimmer look compared to the 911s. What's new? A boxier fit now?

I bet pictures arent doing it justice. Yes more 911 but also one of my fav Porsches ever. :p

Might be the picture, but it's looking a bit more chunkier than the previous one. Hope it didn't gain that much in weight.

Surprise! It looks exactly like a hard-top Boxster.

Yup, I'm intrigued to see the finished product. The images above appear to wear stickers over the front and rear lights - which I bet is every so slightly altering its look - and the rear window appears to have been given a sticker'd border, which again alters the implied proportions.

Can't help feeling the wheels are a bit bland too - might be better with a set of these:

Remember, this is Porsche where everything is an option.

For ridiculous prices....

Want the air vent slats painted? That's $1200 and I'm not joking.....
Want the door seals leather in your Panamera? $2900 and it get's worse, much worse!

Don't know why people are so surprised to begin with, either. Anyone who has paid close attention to Porsche options would know they've been expensive for the past decade, most notably in the Turbo/S & GT3/2 models. Most of the current stuff just hasn't really been advertised til' the recent models.

Though I'm just going by the pictures in the OP, I think the new Boxster S actually may be the better looking of the 2 now. There is bias there as well to be honest, as I have seen & driven the new S at work, & it's a stellar car. 👍

The cayman has always been in my opinion the best Porsche. The mid engine layout, the low body weight, and its probably the only Porsche that looks unique with those curves that flow over the rear tires. It's unfortunate that they choose to purposely keep the power down in order not cause sales conflicts with its big brothers. If it did have the 911s power this would be a mid engined monster!!!

I think the car would be stunning if they made the clear part of those lights red and deleted the red part of the lights so that it's just bodywork.

^ I agree. 👍 Just sculpt the edge of the light so it flow into the rear valance/bumper thingy's shutline.

Again, those rear lights appear to be stickers. Compare the basic, rather bland design on the Cayman to the much nicer ones in the Boxster image I posted above.

The rear lights on the Boxster are actually one of its best features - the subtle lip spoiler on the back is actually integrated into the lights, it's a neat little detail.

But I agree with McLaren, on proportions alone, and based on those early images alone, the Boxster could now be the looker of the two.

Of course personally, I'm waiting until the first Caymans have come down to an affordable price. Then I'll be all over one.

Leaked today the 2013 Porsche Cayman no stickers no camo. Pictured is the 325hp S model set to make its debut at the L.A. International Auto Show tomorrow

Got a chance to drive a 987 Cayman S with PDK awhile back and I have to say it was one of the best handling cars I've ever driven. If money weren't a concern I'd buy one and use it daily. Would probably opt for manual, though the PDK is fun in its own right.

Initially I was skeptical about the new 981, but I think I've come around to it after watching and reading a few reviews.

Wow, it looks...exactly like i expected it would!

Still a very handsome design.
You can't possibly like the styling of that car! IT'S FOUL!

It's one of the UGLIEST cars I've ever seen and it's not as if all Porsche's are good looking. THEIR ALL FOUL!

The best Porsche by far is the 911. But if you want the ultimate Porsche, look at the 918 Spyder!

I love the Boxster and Cayman, partly because they drive so well. If only Porsche realised that this chassis would be incredible with 400bhp, a limited slip diff, stiffer suspension, and some weight reduced. Basically, a Cayman GT3.

I've never hated the Cayman. I don't hate this one either. Seems like the 918 has been the sort of halo design for recent Porsches. What can I say? Me likey. Me gusta.

My eyes.

Is this another guy who thinks that Top Gear is a reputable source on cars?

-> I saw the 981 at the LA show last November in person, I quite like it a lot!
