Will it match the F430? :)

Heh!... When was the last time a Ferrari beat a Porsche in anything .... ehrrhmmm.. anything at all... - Especially long distance...

I take it this isn't exactly the "GT2 Challenger" that will go up against the F430 correct? I say this because the car is entered in the G2 category while the Ferrari F430 is in the GT2 category.

This is the GT2-Challenger that will go against the F430. The car is entered in G2 because of homologation issues. The streetcar on wich the car is based on is not yet released (October 2006), thats why the car is entered in G2 for this single event.

It will be fully egible for the GT2-class in 2007 when the first customer cars will be shipped.

The G class, if I'm not mistaken is a "guest" class. Competitors range from 911 Cup cars all the way up to, now, these 997 GT3-RSR's. This is the car that will compete with Ferrari in GT2. The purpose of G is to allow people to sneak around the FIA's homologation rules, see Mosler MT900R. The unofficial purpose however is to allow guys who don't want to upset the points standings to compete.

Daytona 24 Hours and Sebring 12 Hours, IMSA sanction, WSC category, Ferrari 333SP's - both Dallara and Michelotto built examples - routinely handed the Joest/TWR Porsches their lunch.

About the only major endurance race of the 90's that the 333SP didn't win was Le Mans. Snakebit for luck at the Sarthe.

 That's why Layla's Keeper is so valuable! He keeps us honest! :trouble: Haha, I was kind of hoping for some interesting comments from him regarding the 997.

Someone asked a question, and he answered it. :)

Looking at the GT2 entry list for the Spa 24 Hours, I'm seeing 9 cars each from Porsche and Ferrari. Ferrari is becoming more popular in a Porsche-dominated class. GT1 is seeing the same thing as the former Ferrari 550 teams are replacing them with DBR9s.

I can't wait to see this car next year. With the small grid in the ALMS GT1 class, I'm paying more attention to the GT2 class. Hopefully we will see more Ferrari teams as well as the new 997 GT3-RSR next year in the ALMS. Perhaps we'll even see the BMW Z4M?

LOL

The Ferrari 333SP and the Joest/TWR/Porsche Spyder (whatever name you call it) only met three times on their racing carrer... Guess what car won "that" particular 24hour race... twice.....on the middle of France . (ok, I give a hint, it started as a Group C racer with a Ford Cosworth 3,5L V8 HB engine on the back)....

And the 333SP never won LM not because of the lack of luck (yeah, VAG winning since 2000, they have loads of luck, big time!), but because racing at LM was, then, so much higher profile than in the IMSA series. One thing it to face the challenge of Dyson with their R&S Mk IIs, the other is to face factory teams of BMW, Porsche, Nissan, etc at La Sarthe...

(And, just to fire even more the discussion, the new 430 GT2 car is much better than the ancient 996 GT3RSR, especially at the FIA-GT championship. That's why Porsche is coming along with a completely new car).

Shouldn't it be the GT2-RSR, then?

No, wait. I forgot the that what WAS GT3 is now GT2, and what WAS GT2 is now GT1, and that GT1 does not exist.

shaaaame.
