Oh no - they make an SUV with a VW engine. BMW owns Rolls, Volkswagen owns Bentley, Lotus is in the hands of a Malaysian company, and Volvo and Saab are owned by backwards Americans. This world is so uncertain, what will I do? Oh no, oh no. Oh no. Porsche is actually trying to make decent money, and with this they will.
To all the unrealistic dreamers who thought they could compete with two cars (one of which they refuse to redesign) forever: No maker can be like that. It doesn't work. Subaru's proof - it was months from being pulled out of North America altogether selling just the Impreza and Legacy when the Outback went on sale and took North America by storm - it's now one of the top five most popular cars in every single city west of Kansas City with over 100,000 people without a single exception (think about that - it's quite a feat considering it took Toyota about fifteen years to do the same with the Camry). It paved the way for the Forester, and the precious WRX, and STi, and even the sedan variant of itself.
So maybe Porsche's Cayenne is raising money for more product - even if it isn't, who cares? They're capitalising on a trend, and they're doing it perfectly - after all, who'd rather have BMW or Mercedes when you could have... Porsche?
