I'M SO JELLY THAT I'M SHAKING!!! Not only Miatas are my forbidden fruit but I absolutely love yours. It's not what I'd do to one, but I'm loving the aggressive style!

By the way, what tyres are those? Federal Super Steel's by any chance?
Thank you! Tires are Toyo R888.

Screw the snow. I'm already ready for spring! :D

I've been visiting this thread for the last 5 days just to see these interior pictures over and over again. It's got to be the best looking GT86 interior I've seen. Job well done 👍

Thanks! 👍 It was a lot of fun trying out different seats and picking out what worked and what 'felt right' and putting everything together. I actually just got the car back from the shop yesterday so it's now back in the garage for the winter. I ended up about 15% over budget when all was said and done. Unfortunate but not all together unexpected. The original goal was to come in under budget and use the extra savings for more track days in 2017. :grumpy: So yeah, a lot less fun paying for it now and reaping the repercussions.

But I'm happy with it. Goodness the straight pipe is loud. And the stage 1 clutch and suspension bushings give the car a very different feel: extremely direct, even on street tires. The seat itself feels OK, I have to get used to it, but I think I'm going to have to remove the slider from the driver's side as I'm about an inch higher than in the stock seat. And the smaller diameter steering wheels means the top of the gauges are now cut off. Aggravating. I haven't sat in the car with my helmet on but I think there's still sufficient head room. I like the flexibility of being able to move the seat but the positioning feels a bit off. I'll play around with it in the spring and see if I can live with it.

Here's one more for you:

While the car is still 'marginally' street legal, I've been reluctant to turn it into a full track car, as my daily driver is about as exciting as watching paint dry. My first thought after driving away from the shop, in a car that really isn't suited for the street, with the invoice still fresh in my mind, was "Holy hell, what have I done?" But as I got closer to home and approached the hills and curves, thoughts of the spring and race tracks to come quickly reassured me.

Next season, the '86 begins to show it's true quality! 👍

You're so lucky you live in a climate where you can wash your car year-round without worry; I took mine to clean it and the door locks literally froze overnight....

Gave my car a good wash and clean after a week of me and my step-dad using it for trailer pulling

I also finally purchased my custom plates and put them on the car, looks better than i expected. Any Collingwood supporters?

Me and my friend worked out what we'd do to it, as a final decision. I'm going to salvage the sports bodykit for this gen commodore and put it on, maybe with hsv rims. Kinda like this:

With rims like these hopefully:

Also got my car some neat seat covers to get my "sporty" look going:

And as an afterthought when i've done all the above, I'll also be looking at some angel lights, and then painting it in a purple like this:

First cars are always special, but I suggest a real SV6. No point spending all the money to make it look one without any of the go. ;)

I 'spose  but I don't think I'll be upgrading to a better car for a while, maybe a year or 2 after i'm off me P's so i'll look for a "go" vehicle then, which most likely would not be another commodore , and I got this car at a good price so it's not all that bad for me when it comes to the total cost. I do agree though about getting an sv6, it probably would've been a better idea to have looked for some sv6's before goin for mine but bit late for that now i guess

Mate that's quite the spend should you be able to find secondhand parts in suitable condition and before you get all purple with it. Not to pop your balloon of enthusiasm but, when it comes time to move it on, it's still an Exec under the skin.
Also, some words of advice on swapping wheels.
Because these cars have a Transmission Control Module that talks to the Engine Control Module using various sensors for the Drive By Wire throttlebody & cruise control, be very careful to keep the same overall rolling diameter of your tyres or you'll have dramas. For example: putting SS wheels/tyres on your Exec & the car will start having brain farts cause things aren't happening at the speed, revs & throttle % they're programmed to. That would require a $1k zap/tune available at the better workshops around.
Secondly, don't attempt to use VE/VF rims. Although the PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter) for the wheels studs is the same, the back spacing for the wheel hub itself is different. Some choose to get the VE/VF rims machined to suit but that's not something I'd advise - metal fatigue & all. Some choose to do nothing but illegally fit spacers as compensation but, they're asking for a wheel to depart without notice & that doesn't bare thinking about :scared:

Lastly, keeping it a sleeper will keep you under the radar with our overly enthusiastic police and work in your favour with your insurance company :) 👍

I can be hopeful though right?
And i'm not gonna be able to blow 10k in a week or anything, its more of an eventual sorta thing, and the paint is just as a bonus thing if i really can, because i know thats some serious $$$ :p

And as for wheels and stuff, its what I'd WANT it to look like but as you said, different sizes affects other things so i'll have to find a compromise somewhere

Absolutely no harm at all in having a vision for your car.

Being an Exec; I'm guessing you're running the same wheel/tyre diameter as me. 205/65/R15 ?
If so, that's a rolling diameter of 647.50mm.
Should you want to go up to a 17" rim such as those used on the SV6 or VY SS, choosing a 235/45/R17 tyre will give you a rolling diameter of 643.30mm. A difference of 0.65%. This will be almost impossible to detect & shouldn't cause a problem other than your speedo reading fractionally under your real speed.
