Freewaydrifter initated an interesting challenge based on a 3.2 Power/weight ratio, and cars costing no more than 55,000cr.
I think that another challenge of this type is in order.

First of all it will be open for all eternity. So time is not of the essence.

Any car that fits the below guidelines is allowed.
But no "honkin' beasts" will be in this one.

Anyway, the P/W ratio will be 3.0. Do not go under this.
You may do anything else you wish to the car.
Tires are limited to T5's
Tuner cars allowed for you Spoon and Mugen lovers. No race cars.
Oh yeah, the twist.
Engine displacement must be limited to 2.5 litres.
And it has been brought to my attention that the Rotaries we all love may be at a power advantage. So let's keep them in the paddock too.
*edit* After some reflection, the RX's wouldn't be allowed anyway, because their engine's total displacement would be 2.6liter. (2 rotors at 1.3L, each).*edit*

This opens the options up quite a bit, as far as set up, and interesting cars.
OLR rules apply.
The track: Cote D' Azur.

Okay all, have at it. And most importantly, Have fun.:D

And for you FF lovers we can run a separate comp if y'all are interested.

Yes, I thought it was only fair.
Besides, I left enough displacement in for the "little" Skyline.:D
And with no price limit, you can run the tuner S2000's, the Vauxhaull VX220, The TK ZZ-S, Lotus Elise, but not the MS-Elise.
There are also the Miatas and Silvia's.
My objective was to keep the real "Torque-Monsters" out of the comp.
consider it something of a "fly-weight" challenge.:D
It'll be fun, trust me.
Besides, if you think DerAlta is fast in a Vette, you ought to see what he can do with a ZZ-S.

*edit* HINT:
For those of you who haven't done this before, the easiest way to modify the car for power, is to take the weight and divide by the desired P/W ratio. In this case, 3.0. That will give you your max allowable HP.
It will keep you from adding a part, then checking the garage for the specs repeatedly.
Oh, and do your oil changes before you add parts, or not at all.

Thanks for the Kudo's Gil. Very appreciated. As a further inquiry, have you checked your rules about the Rotary engine cars? I know that the RX-7's and RX-8 can be killers when in a limited displacement run.

Can you check them and if they are the doomsday device to this comp, exclude them?

AO

I hadn't thought of the power that can be generated by the Rotaries.
After some thought, I think we'll leave them out.
Else, everyone will be running them. And I want this to stay variable, and interesting.
Good call, Alex.:D

Not my favorite track either, but it'll help me in my steering control. I absolutely hate the last chicane. IT's killed so many good laps through out the time I've run around it.

As for now, I'm down to two cars after 10 different possibilities + all the lancers. Not wanting to drive a 4wd, I excluded the Lancers. After that the Merc, and the Miata LS were rulled out. I then set-up and tested 5 cars. Some for 10 laps others for 2.

This settled me down to 2 cars that are pretty close. One turning 235hp, and the other turning near 360hp. Both fast laps are within 0.2 seconds of each other, so I'm going to have to test them out more to decide on one to run.

My fast lap has a T2 of 1'14.308. (Sticks toe in water)

More to come.

AO

Ahhh... Mercedes. The SLK 230 Kompressor fits the bill under Gil's regulations. But it's just to heavy and overloaded to compete. Must be the leather seats.

AO

When I get some time to actually run this, (now that I've thought it up). I'll be chasing DerAlta's S2000 (replay) around the course to get the lay of the land. Then I'll start running for the roses.

I threw an 22b STi around. Are we allowed to throw out our lap times, or just sectors? I don't remember the sector, I'll get that tomorrow, along with a final time, if thats okay.

I plan to give the Honda S2000 a try too. Hard to say what else.

One of hte cars I tested was the Elise, and as much fun as it was, it didn't have the grunt to keep up with the other cars. On my second lap in it, I was 7 seconds off the fast pace I previous set.

One thing I'm noticing, is that any oversteer is a serious detriment to carrying any speed in these little cars.

I only posted my T2 times, to give everybody an idea where I was at the moment.

Gil, Do the tuner cars give displacement? I took a quick look at that Mugen run, andwhen checking the car itself, it didn't give a displacement. I'm pretty happy with that Mugen run, Although I got whupped pretty good in that race.

AO

I'm going to move the bar up a bit now. I've found a rather nice car that's lovely to drive around here, and set a T1 of 27.090 and a T2 of 1'12.445. The third sector didn't go too well, and I missed the apex of Antony Nogues by yards, but it was still a decent run.

I don't want to give away the car just yet, but I'm fairly sure it's not the same as Der Alta's because I'm running different horsepower.

And, DA, I was using gentle oversteer to help turn the car through the myriad of tight corners on this track.

<edit>

I've just had a quick run with a rather mundane FF car to set the ball rolling and set a lap with T1: 29.346, T2: 1'17.989 - there has to be some FF car that doesn't lose over 5 seconds by T2 with the same Pow/Wt ratio.

Actaully, Wastegate, it could very well be the same car, but with different amounts of lightening.

I've chopped a bit more out of this one, and trimmed my T1 to a 28.313 and a T2 of 1'13.787. I dumped loads of time in the switchbacks, and I know I can trim a bit more out of the first quadrant.

I have such a tough time being consistant on this track. That's my biggest downfall.

More to come. I've also worked the oversteer down to a minimum on this as well as upped the TCS.

Took a quick shot at this since WRS 49 isn't posted yet.

MX5 Miata LS 340 hp 1037 kg 3.049 W/P

1:42.501 28.388 1:15.977

Had some T2s aroiund 1:15.6 that didn't finish well or included a wall touch.

Well with the Spoon Cars (and Mugen), I'm assuming a displacement of 2.0liters in the S2000.
I doubt that even the magicians at Spoon could get .5 liters out of the mods they do.
I won't have a chance to take a whack at this till this afternoon. But I was kinda thinking VX 220 for this one?...

Well, my two lead cars at the moment are a Toyota MR-2 GTs, and an Opel Speedster. The Speedster seems to have a bit of an edge in ease of control, so I've been racking more miles in it. My quickest run to date is in teh 1'39 range.

AO

I've given both the the VX220 and the Impreza a run out around the track and, to my suprise, both were quicker than my previous choice of car.

The VX220 hit the T2 at 1'12.204 on my best run, and the STi got a 1'11.892, though the Vauxhall had passed it through the twisties up to the end of the lap. The Subaru was particularly impressive for a comparatively tall, front-engined car - though I haven't managed to get rid of enough understeer on it for my taste yet.

Thus far I'm trying to break into the 1'40's, but I usually run two full seconds behind Alex, so I'm happy.
I'm currently running one of Mugen's S2000's, in the low 1'41's.
I've had little time for this, thus far, and I hope to be faster, as things in my life calm down some.

Oh, BTW... Der Alta, What's the Big 2 in your avatar?
Or should I just wish you a happy GTP anniversary? 👍

Yep, I figured everyone makes an annoying "Happy anniversary" thread, why not do mine a bit different.

I got it as soon as I went and looked at your profile.:D

Oh, BTW. I was thinking about what you said about the RX's. And updated the first thread to reflect that, and the fact that the RX 7-8 has a total displacement that is above the limit of the comp.
