Just a thought but how about private threads?

Club's or racing teams can start up a thread and edit the subscriber list. To coin a phrase "if you're names not on the list you can't come in!"

One of the team / club gets elected to be responsible for conduct.

Would also allow those that want to have a verbal scrap, can, in private away from the rest of the community.....

Probably been suggested before?

Loads of holes in the idea i know but....

That's an interesting idea, but I think it would take away the "community" aspect of forums, and could invite descrimination and tension. If you need to say something privately, you will always have our Private Messaging system. :)

what if you get private threads with people talking about other people behind their backs and stuff? thats a good idea... but it is flawed in more ways than one.

I like this idea!

Let's not jump to conclusions and immediately start to think that these "chat rooms"(so to speak) would be used to exclude others or have unacceptable behavior in them.

Could it possibly be done as a temporary thread or something along those lines, much like a "private chat room" on AOL for instance, can be set up?

I think that this would give a good opportunity for small groups members to hold conversations on a real time basis without the disruption of others.
I know that I would find it useful for team realated events. This would enable the members of the team to set up a "private thread or chat" and discuss racing strategies, and the like!

I know that I would be a current user of this system if it was in place as me and M5Power, have a thread in the "test forum" to discuss our News related events, and get them coordinated.

As I said I like the idea, i'm sure that it is riddled with holes, but I would like to show my interest in such an idea!

Thanks for your time!

Boom

I agree with Boom - it'd work much the same way as a private chat room on AOL, I'd assume, though many members (particularly the Australians) haven't got AOL or even AIM, so the only way to talk to them is through private messages or e-mail (if they're allowing e-mail through the site).

I do agree it may take away from the 'community' aspect of the forums, though.

But people will soon start deciding who they do and don't want to talk with, this will divide us all into groups, messages won't be so widespread, and advice not shared....:computer:

All this is a combination to create a lot of this :argue: and :Poke:
There is some fighting already that goes on :007: do we really want to increase that with having private groups?

Do you have to use so many smilies in your posts?
