I need some serious help here. Just got the DSL service activated, went through the installation CD. I didn't connect exactly how it said to on the CD (hook the pc directly to the ethernet port on the modem), instead I hooked my pc into the router (port it would normally be in) and hooked the router into the modem's ethernet port. Doing so allowed me to get past the problematic part of the installation. Then I switched it to how it said to. That has been the only way I can get an Internet connection through the DSL, which is how I am posting this. If this was my only system on the network it would be fine. Unfortunately, it isn't. Now if I hook connect the router to the modem and everything how it is supposed to, I get no result. My pc says I am connected to the local area connection, but I don't have any internet. It looks like I've gotta find a way to get a Westell 327 modem/router combo. My friends have the same service but have that instead. I'd love to know how to get this piece of garbage to work. It works fine when I hook up the cable, but DSL won't. I'm sure its something to do with how I worked around installing it, but otherwise I just get stuck a test that basically tells me that I haven't met my service ready date, even though I got the email and calling them tells me I have. Also, I'm obviously past the service ready date because I'm using the DSL to post this!

Need help!!! :ouch:

I don't exactly know how to fix your problem, but that modem blows. I had the same modem with my BellSouth FastAccess DSL and had so many problems with it. :grumpy:

Yeah, I think buying that other one from somewhere will fix it. Before anyone comes and says DSL is slow, I've checked the speeds on www.speakeasy.net/speedtest. Cable gets me a 2700+kbps download, 110 upload :ouch:
DSL gets me about 2400kbps download, 600+upload :sly:

You need to enter your login information for the PPPoE authentication into your router.

Ie., username, password. Should be a place for that somewhere in your router's administration section.

So hook the pc up to the router and go to 192.168.1.1?

If that is your subnet mask then yes. It varies though. Mine is 192.168.0.1

Also check if there is a firewall on your router that is blocking internet access.

Talked to Verizon today, got it fixed. Problem solved! 👍
