They're not long atall. Most of the shorter series' are made up of 10-15 lap races which is fine in my opinion.

I don't think it needs changing in GT4 personally.

what about the Gt world championship, Does the computers oil light come on or can you change your oil somehow?

Nope. Just race. Its much funnier when the AI gives you a challenge.

Why are the professonal races so long? Hopefully they will be shorter in GT4
Most people want more time to race, so why would you want less?
The Professional races barely give enough time to get in our rhythm, if cold.

Cheers,

I'm gonna do a 180 from a post I made last week and agree with most people. With all the brand new tracks in Gt 4 which have improved since GT 3, participating in 15-20 lap races will be a joy :)

Uhh im all for racing but when u have 10 races with 15 laps, i think it becomes boring ! i can understand the endurance races but i cannot side with people who like doing 10 million laps for just one series. First time around getting 100 percent wasn'y bad but some of those series are just bring and u have to do so many laps.

Oh and the worst series is the formula 1 series!!! SOOOO boring and easy and its like 30 laps every race!!! :yuck:

Just do them in an F1 car, it'll shave 50% off each race ;)

longer races can be fun.. but.. when it becomes a series... 10 races at 10~15 laps each... which would be fine... but... the oil light... even if you change oil right before the series your light comes on and there goes your car.... on the longer series it'll even completely ruin a car and being pro league you either have an expensive car or a moderate car with lots of mods so it adds up and outweighs the prize money -_-

How does it "ruin" the car? I agree the oil light coming on in the 3rd of 10 races is annoying but after a long series I just change the oil in the car and other than the added mileage the car is no worst off.

You guys do know that you don't have to do them all at one sitting, right? Just save between races but don't quit the series, and you can shut the PS2 down and go to bed or grab a snack. The turn the PS2 back on, load your saved game, and voila! Pick up where you left off.

That's what I do now, makes it feel like a real championship when seperated by a day or a long period, and makes the game less tedius. But just using an insuperior car makes long races a challenge, or giving the opposition a head start.

if it was just a light that had no effect it wouldn't matter.. the light itself doesn't annoy me.. its the fact your HP is going down.. and changing oil doesn't get it back. I ran the Tokyo R246 Endurance in the Corvette C5R and I ended up running like 15~20 laps with the oil light on and when I came out, it was down 50 HP... after I changed the oil again (I had right before the race) it was still down 50 HP. And that was just runnin 15~20 laps with it on, I can't imagine what it would do with about 40~60 or so laps run with it on.

Other than that I like longer races, except for the Seattle, Super Speedway, and Test Course ones lol.

Well I don't think that is the oil's fault. Yes when the oil light comes on you loose HP. When you change the oil you gain back that HP. Where you are loosing HP is engine wear. Do a search on this forum for "engine wear" for details...but it roughly breaks down like this.

Cars you can buy from the "showroom"...break in over 200 or so miles, you can gain about 10-15hp over 200 miles. Regardless of oil (though changing the oil on a brand new car from the showroom will increase the HP from what the showroom shows). After 300miles or so your engine, again regardless of oil, begins to loose HP. This is long term engine wear, happen to all cars. Cars you win from races but CAN"T buy in the showroom don't have a break-in period but they will soffer long term engine wear just the same. Changing oil, or running with dirty oil, doesn't change anything for breaking length or long term engine wear length.

Again do a search for "engine wear" or maybe Famine or Neon_duke or Der_alta will come in and link to the thread. Famine can explain it to the nth degree and there are a few very detail threads on this board about this subject.

I'm all for long races. 15-20 lap race is more of a life like race distance. SCCA races usually run 10-20 lappers. The valvoline runoffs are 20 laps long in all classes.

Hopefully in GT4 there will be alot more long races :)

Yeah thats what I did on them long races.

Oh, okay. See, I bought mine used so it kinda didn't come with an instruction book so I didn't know there was engine wear... but wouldn't your engine get about that many miles or so in those long race sets? I've not done any of them yet, mostly just being lazy on my part.. lol

EDIT: THIS THREAD tells just about everything needed to know about wear, break in, etc! :)

I prefer longer races, but I hope GT4 is better equipped for them than GT3 is. We need race-time oil changes and various other options. There needs to be much more involved in car maintenance during the race.

I like the 10-15 lap races. and even the endurance races. One cool thing is you could end up loving a car that you disliked or didnt car about during the race. Its just fun to see how the atitude of the car changes as tires wear down. And pitstops and fuel might actually bring in the need for some strategy on how hard you push the car and tire selection in gt4.

wot i dont understand is that i rather do 10 lap races than 3 or 5 because its annoying amount of laps and i dont like it, but if its a 10 lap race, i just chuck music on, have that goin, its fun and i usually tune out of the race but it goes quicker....

My bread and butter for $$$ in GT3 is the Amateur League / American or Euro Cups (the 5 race series). 7500 per win (3 laps) 20000 series prize and in the cars you get are 250000 (camero in american) 300000 (vertigo in Euro). A stock RUF RGT (my fav car) with any race tire will win (though it is fun to pick an under powered car and really have to work for the wins here, handicap yourself, blitzing the races gets old afterwhile) either series easily in 4 races (save after the 4th skip the 5th and keep resetting until you get one of the fancy expensive cars)...sell them (though the Vertigo is a car everyone should get to know) and you are set. Keep re-doing and you will be able to buy any car you like. Either one takes under 15mins (without resets at the end).

I mostly avoid the Pro series due to their length, though I will setup cars specifically to go race them time to time. I've played GT3 through to 100% 3 or 4 times now so finishing the game fully isn't an issue. I am working through a full play thru with only normal cars (no race cars, the RGT sees lots of laps in the pro leagues..haha).

As for long races. It depends on the circuit. The test course I avoid at all costs for anything over 3 laps (I hope it ISN'T in GT4), the speedway can be fun if you have even cars and it becomes a drafting/braking duel, the street courses (which I love) are lame over 5 laps...but grand valley, apricot hill, laguna, midfield can all be fun in 10+ lappers. Usually I prefer 3-5 lap races in GT3. Now in GT4P I find the 5 lappers a joy and wish for longer races (especially with the JGTC cars @ Fuji).

Long races are about strategy. I hope GT4 ads the window of fuel into the longer races. Tire and fuel strategy in 20+ lappers would make it far more interesting.

if i need money, which i dont anymore, i just run the red emblem races in ameture, i think its either 3 or 5 laps and ya win 30,000 for it, pretty good money

I know that u don't have to do them all in one sitting but sometimes 10 in a row becomes lowthsome even when u rest. I think that the ones that are not a series are alot better because then u can (change parts on the same car) use different cars and stuff but still do the races and get a prize. Either way i like how gt3 works so all in all its not too bad, sometimes it just gets to me.

you should get food before you start a 10 race series when they are all 10 laps :P

i rememba when i first got the game, i didnt kno about the series system where u have to do the series to get a gold medal, i did all the individual races and when i finished them all i was wondering why i didnt win any money or a car! silly me!!!
