Is it my imagination or does this seem like a really interesting breakthrough for esports, especially with respect to sim racing?

it could be but they have to improve the game a lot... at least on console. Too much promises for features not yet working after 4 months from release now. MP very poor with a lot of bugs and issue and no evidence at all from dev when/if they will be ever fixed.
