I play with a headset as well, and some races everytime I change gear I hear a 'crackling' sound, like when you pull out the audio jack of a stereo or something. Really annoying. Large grids and higher volume seem to make it worse

Yeah that's exactly what I hear as well. I don't think it's part of the sound design so I hope they patch it.

Engine sounds are great unless you use chase cam like some of us older folk:irked: It disappears briefly at times, and the engineers instructions are all muffled meaning the only way to understand what he's waffling is to try and read it in time.........awful!:yuck:

What?
I love the chase cam sounds. They make me use this view at times, even though I wouldn't otherwise (it's not natural...).

Has anyone managed to get Pit sound when using a DS4 from DS4 speaker to headphones?

I have tried this and get some but not all sound -I get "go go go"! now but not 'in race' commands

>exited PCars press PS button
>Settings on main PS4 screen
>Devices
>Controllers
>Volume control (speaker for Controller)-Slide to 0 (off)
>came out of settings went back into Pcars or restart game change pit to 100%
i've had major struggles getting the engineer to reliably come out of my speakers. occasionally i hear something, most of the time i get subtitles but no audio. i went and turned the controller speaker up and then i heard him chatting a lot throuh the pad. not sure if there's a bug somewhere because, like you, i don't get full chatter from him otherwise.

Think you misunderstood mate yes they are amazing when functioning correctly. But now and then I think it's car/track dependent the sound at the top of the revs range dips out which is terribly off putting:irked: Sadly if you are a bit of an old fart like me who's been brought up on games like Out Run Lotus Esprit Challenge etc the chase cam is very important and the PCars one is broken. @Gedi69

Curiosity getting the better of me today...
Messed about with the current options regards engine & effects. Tried various levels and even muting them in turn to determine what sounds are being output and looking to obtain for now a good balance for improved tactile.

Done various tests with different cars/track and even the number of cars in case of some bug related issue. Tried stereo/dolby/dts outputs. Doing this confirmed my early thoughts that the game currently has some major shortcomings in the audio...

Time for some rambling... :)

Fx Volume
Turning effects volume up to max mainly increases the environment + tannoy, wind noise, chassis clunk and crashes.
Wind noise kicks in around 70mph but gets pretty loud around 100mph+ I believe the engine audio effects often mask some of these noises.

Amusingly the window wiper in cockpit view actually makes more noise in bass/tactile than opponent cars, lol (thud thud). Opponent cars have very little audible presence at all and practically zero effects in tactile. This really has a drawback on the immersion factor in not hearing/feeling cars to your left right. Also missing is the close range effects of cars approaching and even cars exhausts directly in front.

Tyre volume in reference to independent wheels also seems far too low, not just on kerbs but contact with the road.
This combined with the lack of opponent sounds gives the game very little directional audible cues.

What seems to be happening is that many effects utilise the LFE output. Effects can be felt strongly on kerbs, gear changes, bangs and crashes through the LFE channel. The LFE also seems to have bass/effects replicated to the "RUMBLE" effects normally going to a pad.

In general the audio leaves me with mixed emotions thus far because their is great dynamics found in the engine effects and through the LFE. However the lack of directional effects are badly missed in not only adding to immersion but also fail to give much input as to what the cars tyres are doing.

Quite funny how indeed after all the moaning on GT6 audio, it seems what P Cars (thus far) does best is engines/exhausts but is terribly lacking in what GT6 does best in directional audio effects in opponents and a sense/feedback to what the tyres are doing on the road.

Current Setting Engine 50% Effects 80%
HOPES FOR AUDIO UPDATE!

Thankfully engine sounds are good!

Proof that some people are never statisfied. Finally , after years of atrocious sounds from recent GT games. PC comes along offer - imo . The most authentic sounding title on the console market.

And what do people start doing... Moaning about the volume.

On a serious it is a tad loud. Im having to turn my TV volume to 1 because I'm afraid I might disturb the neighbours lol. Even with the volume at 1 it sounds loud

I wouldn't describe reusing samples from Shift as "authentic" or "realistic", the end result should've been better after 4 years of development, specially after them making a video to mock everybody, that was cute.

My biggest issue i have with the sound is how loud the samples are. They clip an awful lot.

Also, when in a PS4 party chat, it doesn't matter if you turn the game way down and turn the chat audio all the way up... The game still over powers everyone in the chat. I've played shooters at insane volumes to be able to hear footsteps an had no problem. Floor it in Pcars and everyone is repeating themselves.

Then on the flipside... online play with people using microphones is brutal. Can't hear the game at all over them. I've started opening a private party chat with only myself in it to get away from them.

It's just all so loud. Both kinds of loud.

I didn't hear one single person talk tonight in a few hours' worth of racing. I saw IDs pop up so someone was making a noise, perhaps I've accidentally done something to my PS4 sound settings but it appears that whatever it was was for the best!

I want those settings! A mute all function would be nice. The lag spikes caused by people joining mid session are one thing, but having jimmy mouth breather shouting at his mum what he want for his tea while I'm mid corner is another. Especially since i have to leave the track to mute them. Sods law, as soon as i leave the garage, another one joins. :nervous:

yeah those lag spikes are a bit annoying and always seem to come around at the worst possible moment on track. it was my first proper online session and i was really impressed generally by the servers and even the other drivers.

now, is there a way to instantly kick someone out or do they need to be voted out? you'd only get voted out for talking nonsense i'd think, not for driving like an idiot. don't people know how to safely get the car back on track?! :banghead: damn good fun though

Okay, I did say a while ago that I was going to make a car sound post, so here is the negative stuff I would like to comment on in hope of improvement:

-the Mitsubishi, g40, escort, caterham 7s, and perhaps a few I forgot really are using the same exterior sample. Now I know some 4 cylinders will sound the same, but completely the same? And a mk1 escort and a lancer?
-the marek diesel sounds like a 6 cylinder but is a 4 cylinder
-radical sr3 also sounds like a 6 but is a 3
-the intake noise on the bmw m3 and mercedes 190 should really only be heard when viewing the car from the front, would love more exhaust sound at the back
-bmw m1 doesn't have that lovely high pitched exterior shriek it has in real life (interior is perfect though)
-ford gt40. God this one drive me mad. It has a 7.0 crossplane v8, but has been given a completely wrong flatplane sample.

The rest of the audio is good. Which is why I don't like hearing any bad ones!

Yep I 2nd this, it's very off putting and ruins the game for because I can't hear the revs properly to change gear.

The brakes sound rather odd on some of the cars. I was driving the 1 Series BMW and joking with my brother than the brake pads were worn out on it as you could hear them rubbing the rotors when you apply the brake.

I don;t know about the M series BMW but I know that in my real life cars the only time you ever hear the brake pads are either when the car has been setting and there is a little rust on the rotor or the pads are in need of replacement either to to wear or being crystallized.

My real life vehicle is a k1 GSXR 1000. It is kept in very good condition, but it has one very annoying feature. The brakes give a horrible squeal ,mostly at low speed, low pressure. I've had the bike for 10 years so the pads have been changed several times. I've even changed the calipers. No bike mechanics have ever been able to eradicate it! Still I forgive it because in every other respect it is 🤬 awesome! :D

Honestly I think the sounds overall are so much better than GT6, that I'm not willing to go overboard with criticism for a brand new game.

However the freaking menu music is super loud for some reason. If there's one thing I enjoyed about GT it was the constant ambient music that enticed you to leave the game on and browse cars and look at galleries. Now I want to punch myself in the face when I hear menu music. Ok that was a bit dramatic.

Other than that pit audio through the DS speaker is annoying. Need that to reliably come through main speakers. If I'm using my wheel I don't want to keep my DS handy to hear that crap.

It seems that several of the cars I have driven sound very similar, kinda of a generic sound while it is better than many of the ones on GT6 it is still lacking and doesn't seem very realistic.

I do like the way the RUF RGT 8 sounds and the Sauber

We definitely need more sliders for sound. Need to turn up tire sounds without turning up unwanted effects.
Also desperately need a way to turn down the sound on that demo video or disable it completely. I think right now that is the most annoying part of the game for me. I stop playing for a few minutes and that video kicks in and it is louder than anything in my races resulting in me having to turn down the tv or click to stop the demo then I get into another race and forget to turn the set back up and can't hear my car.

Some of the other effects were getting to me, there was some loud sound that happened either when you entered an event or left it that was far to loud. I managed to turn that down somehow but not sure exactly how, possibly had to turn down the tire sounds at the same time but it was a problem.

Some cars are very hard to tell when the rpm gets closer to max and/or they hit the rev limiter where as others are easy to tell from the sound.

All in all the sound is pretty good but less than I expected from what people had been saying leading up to the game.

Yep, pretty much what I was gonna say.

There is a slider for the music volume so you can turn that menu music down. I moved mine down to 5% so I can barely hear it.

Right but it seemed like the menu music is much louder than anywhere else. Anyways, wasn't really a big gripe for me, just a nitpicky thing. BUT I do miss GT ambient music. For the love of God if I have to spend hours tweaking every car to overcome FFB issues, I'd better have calming music to listen to!

In my case the menu music is the only music there is in the game so it is a simple matter to adjust the volume using the slider. I rarely ever use any in race music at all. The one exception is GT5 When I ran the long endurance races I would sometimes enable the in race music to help kill the boredom of driving those super long races.

Then again on GT I created my own custom play list so there is always something good playing. Most games have at most 2 or 3 songs I have any interest in hearing and lots of them I can't stand so usually the first thing I do is disable any music in game or in the case of menu music turn it down to a very very low setting just to avoid total silence while in the menu.

The game does not seem to have stereo effects, no L/R balance... (PS4)

Placing Left or Right wheels off track, into walls, or sounds of passing cars...
The sound should ONLY be heard in the appropriate L/R channel but the sound is applied to both your L/R speakers/channels.

Test this if you are on PC or Xbox 1.
Want to determine if it is a PS4 issue.

I'm not an audiophile and I'm only using very basic audio equipment, but I believe I noticed that too through my TV speakers and the headphones I occasionally plug into my DS4.

I like the sound in chase cam my only problem is the tyre squeel I can not hear it as a controller user it would help me out in knowing when I am loosing traction.

Its nothing to do with quality of equipment used by highlight what seems (to me) as a fundamental issue/flaw in the games audio output.

Just about every racing game will utilise STEREO to position sound effects on the appropriate L/R sides.
Project Cars seems remotely MONO in this respect.

Is it PS4 related ONLY?

I hear layered engine noises sometimes where they seem to clash and phase as the sounds from different cars become one. some better separation would sort that out I think.
